The Canadian election is today. If the most recent polls are correct, the Conservative Party of Canada may win more seats in Canada's House of Commons, setting the stage for a Conservative minority government. A new day may be dawning in Canada. But the election is going to be close.
Please use this thread for any early election articles that pop-up over the course of the day, predictions and news analysis, and, of course, the actual results as they come in.
Also, please post links to Canadian elections result sites here.
To all lurking Canadian left-wingers, enjoy your new hell.
Alberta joining the US, I wouldn't mind, but I read an article maybe a decade ago, I think in the WSJ, saying that the maritime provinces should join the US if Quebec seceded.
No freaking way.
Better yet would have been to preemptively attack and to set the agenda. The Tories ought have been loudly proclaiming what is good about Christian beliefs, gun rights, friendship with the US and UK, etc. By setting the stage and defining all of this, when the Left counterattacked, the Right could have labelled them traitors, Jihad lovers, Communists and all sorts of negative things. Instead, the Tories took the high road and had to respond to the initial volley, and when they did, they got called Fascists and wackos. First strike wins.
Elections have not been kind to conservatives anywhere this year. I hope W can buck the trend.
We take our losses in stride and move on.
I hope you all fare better in your elections then we just did in ours. I don't know if I can stand even one more year of the Liberals.

That isnt true...the EU elections gave more conservatives and EUsceptics.
This leader of the NDP takes basically every position opposite of the US. If he wields any sort of power in the new government, there will be no thaw in the US/Canada relationship.
opposite the US or opposite Bush?

The NDP wants two things: PR so they can expand their power at the expense of the Liberals and more spending. My thinking is the Liberals will accomodate them on the latter and try to hold them off on PR right up til the next election.
the Bloc Quebecois are already saying they will push the separation issue now they have more seats.
haha.
They'll prop up the Liberals til they can force an election to their own advantage.

CBC saying Dennis Mills lost his seat because of his stance against gay marriage.
We should have dumped those damn frenchies a long time ago. All they know how to do is milk the cash cow. And whine, whine, whine.
Some liberal on CBC Radio already said the Conservative Party will break in two!
is Paul Begala up there?
