The Canadian election is today. If the most recent polls are correct, the Conservative Party of Canada may win more seats in Canada's House of Commons, setting the stage for a Conservative minority government. A new day may be dawning in Canada. But the election is going to be close.
Please use this thread for any early election articles that pop-up over the course of the day, predictions and news analysis, and, of course, the actual results as they come in.
Also, please post links to Canadian elections result sites here.
a la prochaine fois!
Next time.
The PC is a new party. People don't trust it yet to lead. Martin is leading a minority government now, so there is no "mandate". However, bear something in mind. I don't see the Liberals having an easy time putting together ad hoc coalitions in the Commons. Especially since they will have to deal with the Bloc to govern.
Sadly, this Government will have no problem passing hate crimes legislation and whatnot, given the fact that the Bloc and the NDP have signed on to such nonsense.
Be Seeing You,
Chris
How many seats did each party have in the last (existing?) government?
They have a PCP party in Canada. Now I can understand why their politics are so whacked. :^)
One time I opened the box, and damn if I couldn't see the cat right there. F*** Heisenberg...the Enterprise has compensators.

I hope someone else can help you. I think BQ is up 15. Beyond that, I don't remember.

Only a country where 75% of the vote goes to the Left could have produced such a lopsided result. Its amazing 25% of Canadians don't buy into this world view. If they made it 100%, they could drop the bother of holding costly elections every five years.
Steyn says:
10.20pm: Just a reminder of the starting point: In 2000, the Liberals won 172 seats, Alliance 66, Bloc 38, NDP 13, Progressive Conservatives 12. Right now, the Conservative seat take is about equal to the total Alliance/PC seat take in 2000.

Not to be a Monday morning...err night quarterback, but I think that this was to be expected. Polls had a the race tied with a good number of undecideds. The conservative party is less than a year old, and Canadians by their nature like to go with the 'safe' option. The swing voters simply felt that they didn't know enough about the conservatives, so they stayed with what they knew. The result is bad, but I think that it is a floor, not a ceiling. In time I think that Canadians will become more comfortable with the new conservative party, and it will increase its standing in ontario in the next election, which will probably be soon.
I noticed it and raised my eyebrows, and I'm from a state where we get TONS of these every two years. Sounds like the Gore ads in 2000.
The Liberals won't have to deal with the Bloc. Combined with the NDP, they can rule as a majority (with a projected total of 160 seats). Unbelievably, Canada lurched even more to the left.
It is a sad day for Canada.
Some drift downward for the left coalition now:
LIB 132 NDP 26 158
CON 91
I really do hope GILLES DUCEPPES gets his way, don't you?
