Update:

IRAQ HANDOVER 'TODAY'

The handover of power in Iraq is to be brought forward to today.

A formal announcement will be made later today, Tony Blair said.

The informal announcement was made by Iraq's foreign minister Hoshyar Zebari.

The handover of power to an interim Iraqi government was supposed to take place on June 30.

Mr Zebari said the deteriorating security situation in the country was one of the reasons why the date had been brought forward.

"We will challenge these elements in Iraq, the anti-democratic elements, by even bringing the handover of sovereignty before June 30 as a sign we are ready for it," he said.

He added: "We have made some very good progress in terms of the new security council (in Iraq) and the return of sovereignty to the Iraqi people to take away the level of occupation we have suffered a great deal from.

"There are many Iraqis who are standing up to the challenge. We are here to seek more help and assistance, training and equipment."

Excellent. Now all we need is news of Zarquai to be caught or killed today, and it would be a National Day of Celebration for Iraq.

It thrills me no end to know that FOX's Greg Calcott was IN THE ROOM when this took place. Rather, Jennings, Amapour, and Brokaw were NOT!!!

Thing is they invited the journalists to a 1 O'Clock breifing of the change over.

Fox did not say what other journalist went but the old addage "The early bird catches the worm". rings true.

Gen. McCaffery on Today:

"Early transfer is just one bit of MINOR political theater".

Wow. I got just up, poured a cup of cofee, turned on the news to hear "The handover of Iraq has taken place today"...and I checked the date on the calendar wondering how long I'd been asleep!

They got me as well :)

Why did Powell have such a sour puss on his face?

Notice he had his headphones on. He was probably listening to a translation of the French representative.

Guess that makes having Iraqi war being another "Viet Nam" another FOOLish prediction. Those Dems have less and less scare credibiilty.

I thnk he didn't know, yet. When I watched the clip, Bush got the note, took off his headphones (and he had a rather dour look at the time while HE was listening), turned to Rumsfeld, grinned, and then turned to Blair and whispered to him, shook his hand, and grinned. Powell was still listening and hadn't been told yet.

Will do!

Schumer says this is a smart move. Let's see if Kerry is as gracious.

Unfortunately, I spent Thanksgiving dinner with a dem in the room. I left early because I felt like a food fight was in order. To this day, I will not go to family stuff if my brother's cousin in law is in attendance. I cannot tolerate Bush bashing - especially when I'm trying to eat my mashed potatoes!!!
