"(there are not many people deserving it more than he does)"

Agree.

I'm sorry to hear though that this savage responsible for the death of some 30,000 people over the years was not given the maximum penalty.

Thanks for responding and praying for the hostages.

They will react just like any other nation. First they'll be upset and outraged, and then the blame will touch everyone, even the alignment of the planets.

But I'm pretty sure that these guys will be set free.

Um...Islam has never shown itself to be a peaceful religion. Ever. Whereas many other religions and movements have waffled between periods of violence and peace, islam never has, as its one over-riding principle is its intolerance to anyone and anything that is not islamic. That's just a simple fact. Are there good and decent moslems? Yes, of course there are. But only when they put islam on the back burner. I spent quite some time in Turkey in the early 1970s, and I have great respect and admiration for Turks. I also found them to be the least "islamicized" of all the islamic peoples, which no doubt explains why they are -- generally speaking -- fine people.

Will you for Pete's sake stop confusing your politicians with your people?? You were as disappointed with the decisions made by the new government as the rest of us were, and you DID make the distinction then.

The average FReeper is making that distinction. Last time you flamed me was for pointing out a terrorist attack in Turkey happened for answering another poster's question of "why?" by mentioning the terrorists had access to the area they attacked...I told you it could and has happened everywhere 9including here, remember 9/11??) becaue first and foremost, the terrorists had access to the target. Access was only the first in a list of logistical requirements to carry out the tactical objective, but you chose to misinterpret that post to mean I was accusing your people of tolorating terrorists, Saudi like.

You've been very defensive lately. Please, calm down and grow a skin.

There you go again..

Hopeless. You just cannot comprehend what I am telling you, and are stubborn in your stereotyping generalizing way.

I too pray for their families and them.

I think Zarqawi has overplayed his hand. The clerics are starting to speak out, if the populous listens, the thugs will be history very soon.

"(3) political inexperience, which to be fair they seem to be rectifying."

That's a given, because it was their inexperience in dealing with reasons 1 and 2 that I cited earlier that led them to bow out of any involvement in the War.

Yes, it's a given to some of us, but considering some of the replies on this thread I added it for clarification purposes.

My original point, too caustically made and aimed at the govertnment of Turkey, is that those same leaders are in the middle of a super crash course on the truth of our mutual enemy.

"They will be set free because they are Muslim? "

They'll be set free or not depending on what gain the terrorists stand to acheive. No more, no less.

but painting the whole Muslim community with the same brush is not doing justice to the millions living peacefully

That's not exactly it --- I know some Muslims --- maybe MINOS --- in name only -- who are perfectly capable of living in harmony with Jews, atheists and Christians. They themselves told me how the Islamics are lunatics --- barbaric and uneducated and that the people in Iran basically reject much of what their Islamic government is doing to them -- the women wear jeans -- a symbol of Westernism -- under the chadors when they go out, they smuggle in music CD's and videos. I'm not sure they even bow 5 times a day to that Arab city called Mecca or will ever make a pilgrimage to it --- I'm fine with those who are muslim in name only --- but maybe they should move to something they could believe in more.

That's my speculation..

Why does he kill all those muslim Iraqis then, you may ask.

Catching a few Turks and letting them go is a way for him to make himself seem to the Turks like he's really an ok guy.

View for a moment through your minds eye mothers, wives, brothers, and children of the freed captives exclaim: "Thank you for letting my daddy go!"

No conflict unless you figger that there's benefit in pouring our troops in there to take a dump in our ally America's sandbox?

The 30 Billion had nothing to do with Turkish troops, and Turkish troops were never solicited with this offer.

This was for access only, for our troops on a Northern front. You know better a_turk.

That's just plain silly.

Because my warrior nation has unequaled political will to see things through no matter what the hardship.

That's the conflict with your post, for unequaled will would have accepted the $30 billion, promoted the ousting of Saddam, and apparently to your thoughtful demise, freed the Kurd's along with the rest of the Iraqi's.

Plain silly? I think not.

"Catching a few Turks and letting them go is a way for him to make himself seem to the Turks like he's really an ok guy."

OR a way for him to declare victory, whether he actually gained one or not? To make himself appear more powerful and more in control than he appears now?

I think Zarqawi has overplayed his hand.

I thought so after he beheaded the Korean guy, but after a few days I'm starting to wonder now. Perhaps if this lowlife piece of garbage beheads someone from all 192 countries in the world, there's a chance that one of those countries might actually get pissed off enough to really do something about it.

In a statement with the video, al-Zarqawi's group, Tawhid and Jihad, threatened to behead the men in 72 hours unless Turkish companies withdraw from Iraq, an Al-Jazeera anchor said.

Why Turks? Maybe they are trying to get support from the Kurds. Expand the chaos to the north? Just a theory.

No. You have it wrong. We would have accepted your troops if you would have accepted our troops. Our 80,000 were already mobilized and ready to go. You wanted to go it alone and then buy us out to get there. That did not match our interests. That's what happened, regardless of what cartoons you saw drawn on the matter.
