DARROW LEADS OPPONENTS TWO TO ONE IN SENATE RACE Russ Darrow Leads Opponents By 24 Points In Race To Face Feingold
WAUKESHA, WI United States Senate Candidate Russ Darrow's campaign released a poll this morning showing Darrow with a 24 point lead over his next closest Republican opponent in the race to take on Russ
Feingold. The poll further showed Darrow with the highest name identification of any Republican candidate.
When asked, "If the Republican Primary Elections were held today, who would you vote for between Russ Darrow, Bob Welch, Tim Michels and Robert Lorge," respondents answered in the following manner:
Candidate Percent Russ Darrow 40 percent
Bob Welch 16 percent Tim Michels 8 percent
Robert Lorge 4 percent Don't Know 33 percent
Those surveyed were also asked for their awareness of the candidates running for the Republican nomination and provided the following responses:
Candidate Name ID Russ Darrow 71 percent
Bob Welch 50 percent Robert Lorge 28 percent
Tim Michels 22 percent
"For the last 10 months I have been traveling across this great state and listening to the people of Wisconsin while sharing my vision for our future. These numbers demonstrate that my message of the need
for a strong national defense, lower taxes and affordable healthcare is resonating with the working families of Wisconsin," said Russ Darrow. "My 38 years of experience making the right decisions for my employees
and my family will help to return our commonsense values to the U. S. Senate."
"These numbers demonstrate that Republican Primary voters across this state agree that Russ Darrow is our best chance at beating Russ Feingold and returning our Wisconsin values to the U. S. Senate," said
Darrow Campaign Manager Eric Schutt. "Beating an entrenched incumbent like Russ Feingold will require a candidate with the right message, the right organization and the necessary resources. That's why the voters
are showing that Russ Darrow is the Right Russ for Wisconsin."
The poll was conducted by nationally known pollster Jan Van Lohuizen of Voter Consumer Research from June 6 to June 10, 2004, and surveyed 401 likely Republican Primary voters statewide and has a margin of
error of ± 4.9 percent. Jan Van Lohuizen currently serves as the lead pollster for President Bush's reelection campaign.

Apparently, from the article, he is a successful business man. Does he really have a chance to beat Feingold?
I like "He's the right Russ for Wisconsin" for a campaing slogan.
"Apparently, from the article, he is a successful business man. Does he really have a chance to beat Feingold? "
I'm not sure - maybe that's why russ darrow was a contributor to russ feingold's campaign in the past.
I'd prefer Michels but Darrow would be OK.
Used to live in Wisconsin during the '50s and 60s...when it was a Republican state....then the libs moved in and took it over....time for the Republicans to take it back...long time coming.....(Is Paco's (Mexican restaurant) still on State Street in Madison near the U of W campus?)

Nope, no Pacos. There's a Starbucks or 17 though. Chains have started to take over the restaurants on the campus end of State Street. Closest real Mexican restaurant is Pasquals which is about a mile from campus. There is a Taco Hell on State Street now.
It's a hope; big republican blow out.
I think he has the best shot to beat Russ Feingold. Looking at Wisconsin and Senate races, they are generally very close--Feingold has never got more than 52.5% of the vote.
We get a successful businessman, with a great life story (going from nothing to sometihng) known across the state in a race with 'Mr. I tried making a living in the private sector for 2 years but it was too hard so i spent the last 20+ years in elected office because the real world is scary' and i think we got a shot.
Two questions:
Did Darrow finally come out against gay marriage, or is he still thinking about it?
And have any independent polls shown Darrow ahead, or is the Darrow campaign's poll the only evidence of him being the frontrunner?
oh, so sad....used to have some fun times at Pacos during the football seasons.....that and the U of W Brathaus!!
Don't post this crap without indicating Darrow is up the the PRIMARY huge. For a few seconds, I got really excited.
Let's face it, it would be nice if he won, but this is a longshot at best.
I think you have to remember that Fiengold has recieved more than 52.5% of the vote--so it will be a close race.
And please note that the Administrator posted the "Running against Fiengold" part--so please dont do a "Don't post this crap " without checking what you are commenting on. No feelings are hurt though...
Any survey that found Lorge to have better name recognition than Michels is suspect. Most people I've talked to didn't even realize he was running - and that includes more than a few active Republicans. While the other candidates have been extremely active since last fall, I've not seen Lorge once - and Michels, Welch, and Darrow have been ubiquitous.
While that was my initial reaction one thing to remember is that this survery was of likely Rep primary voteres which means they have a much higher likelyhood of knowing the Lorge family name. WHile Lorge has not done a lot, Michels was tottaly unknown before he entered the race.
The thing is how is the survey suspect? The guy who did it is Bush top poller--would he jeopordize his reputation on a primary race? In addition, if we say his survey is suspect that gives the Dems fodder to use against Bush.

I drive by that place daily (including today), but have never been there. Smelt it though, running by a few times.
