Ok... I am a registered voter and hate I to admit that I "was" a democrat and I am currently registered as a democrat voter. How do I go about changing my voter registration to Republican from Democrat?, or do I even need to change this before the elections?
If I should change my voter registration now, can I just do it by filling out the form on http://www.georgewbush.com (or some other web site) and printing out the PDF page and send it in or do I have to visit an office near me to get this taken care of?
Or should I just go to the polls and vote for Bush in November and have it changed then while I am there?
Also is there a website that will tell me the ratio of registered Democrats to Republicans in my community? I live in a small town and I have considered being a Bush (or Republican Party) Volunteer in my community. (BTW... This small town is not my native hometown and I am not part of the social scene here in this little town and since it is a small town, I am considered an outsider here.)
It depends on where you live. You should contact your local Board of Elections, they can tell you. If you can't get help from them, or find them, contact your state Republican party, I'm sure they can help.
PS, your party registration is only important in primaries, you can vote for anyone in a general election, regardless of your, or the candidate's, party affiliation, if any.
You can simply download the form, fill it out and mail it. You'll then receive a new card in the mail. I would suggest you read the rules for your state since they do vary. However, you have plenty of time.

First thing, move out of Illinois and come to TEXAS.
Thank you, this is what exactly what I was looking for.
I would love too! (I love Texas)- I truly dislike IL (maybe it just this little town that is so annoying). As you know I am not from IL, but from MO). We plan to move back to MO after my hubby retires, which he is hoping to do in 5 years or so. Basically all we really like about Southern IL is the hunting. BTW, have you been back here lately in Randolph Co?
Thanks...
I am gonna crash now for a few hours, then I have to go to STL for 2 days.
Thanks everyone for your replys...!
I would love to have a great big DEMOCRAT stamp on my voter registration card when I go to reelect GWB.
These come in handy for the local elections, where they don't list the candidates' political parties.
I take the Democrats' literature along to the polling place to make sure I vote AGAINST every single one of their candidates, no matter how obscure the office...
No, we need to send more Republicans to Illinois...we would be sort of like missionaries enlightening the mis-informed. I was a Democrat for 20 years. My wonderful husband ( I was going to reform him don't you know) and Rush Limbaugh helped me to see the truth about the Democratic Party. I was a true partisan; I didn't even date Republicans. I didn't know my husband was a Republican when I met him; he lived in New York City. I thought everyone (especially young people) from there were Democrats. I actually convinced my husband to vote for Clinton in 1992...as my last act as a Democrat (hanging my head in shame). After all, he was a 'moderate' and supported a middle class tax cut (right).
In 1993, I changed my party (went down to mayor's office/small town in pennsylvania). I have been voting for Republicans since that time. I live in Georgia now and hope to vote for Herman Cain. Unfortunately, it looks like the General Motors plant in Doraville will close in 29 months so we are looking to move some place really cold like Kansas City, Janesville Wisconsin or Michigan. General Motors has gone to the unibody concept-one car 'body' type upon which you can build a number of different cars. Doraville is the only plant that refuses to accept this type of build and has voted it down consistantly. My husband asked a union guy if he didn't understand GM will shut this plant down. The guy didn't believe it...Tarrytown, Linden, framingham etc.-none of the union guys believed it there either, but the plants were shut down just the same.
You will enjoy being a Republican-most of the rank and file are really nice and optimistic. I have met the nicest people since I became a Republican which is a good thing since most of my former leftist friends dropped me after my conversion (not even a Christmas card). I have to tell you, most of the Democrats I knew (I knew many) were really mean, sarcastic and unhappy people.
And note: In IL they've changed the registration form, you no longer check a box for 'Republican', 'Democrat', or 'Independent'.
Three years ago when my youngest turned 18, the form was different than the one my oldest daughter used, three years prior. So if you registered long ago as a Dem, you're kind of up the creek.
The only way now that they keep track here of party affiliation is by the primaries when you ask for a Republican or RAT ballot.
Here's a link to the IL Voter Registation form where you can download it , fill it out and mail it in (Adobe pdf format). but if you're already registered there's really no sense in doing so. But you can see there's no mention of political party.
Go to the county courthouse find the elections bureau and change your registration.
If you live in a democratic leaning state, don't change your voter registration to republican. This way you can still have an impact on the kind of democrats being elected during the primary season. I live in Maryland and have assisted in voting out the extreme socialists during the primary season. In some local elections, only democrats ever win...at least you can have some impact, and it certainly doesn't stop you from voting for right wingers in the general.
Do you think Illinois will go to Kerry? It went to Gore last time. It's a hard core blue. If that's the case I would like to vote for Nader to get Bush in. Does that make any sense?
Thanks everyone for your replies, I really appreciate it!
Bush in 2004!
I don't know... My answer would be to die... but then as we all know there are a lot of dead democrat voters out there. :-)
