He hopes Monica's life isn't stained by scandal

Bill Clinton hopes his former paramour, Monica Lewinsky, can someday "have a good life" beyond the scandal ignited by their White House affair. "I hope that she will not allow her whole life to be defined by her Andy Warhol-like 15 minutes of fame," Clinton told Oprah Winfrey on her show yesterday.

Clinton described Lewinsky as "a really intelligent person," and said she deserved an apology for the affair and its aftermath.

"I think I owed her one and I gave it to her," he said. "Publicly."

Clinton said he has not spoken with Lewinsky since the affair became public and deems it best not to have any contact.

The former President went on to say he hopes that the ex-White House intern's "life will be full and not solely defined by the fact that she got caught up in this media and political firestorm, because she doesn't deserve that. Nobody does."

If he happened to run into her, Clinton told Winfrey, he would say, "'Hello' to her and 'I hope you're having a good life.'"

Lewinsky now lives in the West Village and has dabbled in designing handbags and served as host of a Fox reality series called "Mr. Personality." Her spokeswoman did not return a call for comment yesterday.

I don't think he knows how to apologize. Why did he do it publicly? Could it be because he sought a public forgiveness? If he hasn't seen Monica since the proceedings, then he hasn't really apologized to her. Geez, maybe it's just me. But if someone owed me an apology, it wouldn't matter what he said to everyone else, only to me.

Of course, this is all so stupid because Monica was a willing participant. Here's how his apologies should go:

It's hard to have sympathy for Monica.

Since her first name became a new term for a sex act, I really don't think she'll ever be defined as anything but Bill Clinton's slut.

Um, I've heard it called a "Lewinsky," but never a "Monica."

I'm sure Klintoon really, really worries about this. Then again, how many interns will ever have their name included in dictionaries?

Ken Starr’s ‘cheap and sleazy’ tactics
Couric: “You said before you wrote this book, that this wasn't about settling scores. But you are pretty angry at Ken Starr. You call his tactics, ‘cheap and sleazy.’”

President Clinton: “Absolutely. In the context of calling Hillary before the grand jury, it was a cheap, sleazy [and a] publicity stunt. If you go back and look, it's one of the few times I apply adjectives to him. Most of the time I just said, ‘these are the facts.’ So, when he called Hillary down at the grand jury, that was a sorry thing to do, especially since her billing records, which is why he hauled her down there, proved that she told the truth. They proved that she told the truth and she had no motive to hide them. She found them. She turned them over the next day. And he treated her like a common criminal. That was the wrong thing to do.”

Couric: “He, in response to your book and some of the things – I guess he's heard about it – he said he hasn't read it yet, but will. He said, ‘I understand the depth of his feelings. People tend to not like prosecutors.’”

President Clinton: “That's not true. I like Robert Fisk just fine. People don't like prosecutors who prosecute people instead of crimes.”

Couric: “But you thought he was doing the right thing. How could this be false?”

President Clinton: “He absolutely did. Because he believed that it violated the natural order for me to be elected president. That's what he believes. After 1968, they thought there would never be a democratic president. They thought the only reason Jimmy Carter was elected is because of Watergate. And they really believed when I won, it interrupted the natural order of things. But I don't quarrel with that, and I don't think that Starr believes he's a bad man. I think he believes he's a good God-fearing Christian and that he was driving an infidel from the temple. But his goal was to drive me from office whether I committed a crime or not. And the American people need to know that.”

Monica has run out of her fifteen minutes of fame and is heading towards being broke. I suggest that she write a book and tell us all how it really was. Bill Clinton has destroyed her, now she should rightfully destroy him and the entire political party that birthed him!

Who knows?

Maybe Monica is not merely a 15-minute celebrity but the founder of a new White House tradition - First Fellatrix!
