On May 19th, 2003 in San Francisco, at a symposium hosted by the American Psychiatric Association, several long-recognized categories of mental illnesses were discussed for possible removal from the upcoming edition of the psychiatric manual of mental disorders.
Among the mental illnesses being debated in the symposium at the APA's annual convention were all the paraphilias--which include pedophilia, exhibitionism, fetishism, transvestism, voyeurism, and sadomasochism.
Also being debated was Gender-Identity Disorder, a condition in which a person feels persistent discomfort with his or her biological sex. Gay activists have long claimed that Gender-Identity Disorder should not be assumed to be abnormal when, they say, it is usually an expression of healthy prehomosexuality.
Dr. Robert Spitzer responded to the symposium as a discussant, urging that the paraphilias and gender-identity disorder be retained in the psychiatric manual.

Most psychiatric organizations lost all right to claim themsleves to be "credible" long ago. Most have been infiltrated with activists like the gay activists did to the American Psychiatric Association when they caused general disruption of their conventions before the APA caved into their agenda.
Even the pro-homosexual scientist Levay stated that it was clearly gay activism that caused the APA to "normalize" homosexuality in 1973.

Actually, having pedophilias in the general population of a prison IS a cure. Once they're dead, they're cured.
Prisoners have their own "judicial system" when it comes to dealing with pedophiles.

Unfortunately, Shrek II is germane to this discussion. I have not seen it, but understand that it has some references to sexually deviant behavior as a source of humor.
The problem is that popular culture is where ideas become "normalized". Who would have thought 20 years ago that there would be umpteen network shows that included gay behavior as part of the plotline. Or, for that matter, the multiple sexual encounters of a bunch of women? Or that any reference to Jesus, other than as a swear word of course, would be come culturally unacceptable?
There are some interesting articles out there about the progression of ideas. If it were only an incidental reference in Shrek II, wouldn't be a problem, but trust me - that won't be where it ends.
Are these the folks that Pres. Bush wants to use to screen the rest of us for mental illness?

I agree. Taken alone it means nothing, but as part of a bigger picture it means much more - a shift to legal and moral acceptance of deviant behavior. The supreme court, liberal federal courts, state supreme courts, and the teacher's unions, not to mention the pc/diversity industry crowd, are all to blame. Fortunately, nature is on our side (std's have a way of showing up if you have a lot of sex with a lot of different people).

It is compounded for gay smokers. Men who smoke increase their odds of getting anal cancer by nearly 40% compared to those men who do not smoke.
Homosexuals(who engage in receptive anal intercourse) increase their odds of getting anal cancer by nearly 4000%.
"Anal smoking" isn't what is "smoking" their rear ends. Something else is. And it is increasing their odds of getting anal cancer by nearly 4000%.

Of course liberals believe people with fetishes and paraphillias are just misunderstood. So its no surprise the APA is debating to remove this stuff from the manual of mental disorders.
...And the APA will probably "normalize" pedophilia, sexual-sadism, transvesticism along the same lines that they "normalized" homosexuality... or at least they will attempt to.
You can rest assured that they will at least attempt to.
