Sometimes I wish that would happen but it is really not the best course of action. One group must maintain what is good at all costs. You give up the short gains this would supply for the win in the long run.

Our prior "it's a criminal justice issue" stance and current mortification of profiling HAS GOT TO CHANGE however.

Yea, as Americans we were acting like Nazis when we destroyed Hitler's war machine and freed Europe, firebombed the Japanese, and eventually nuked two cities.

We were conducting Blitzkrieg operations when we fought the expansion of Communism in Korea and Vietnam. Haven't you heard, it's a WORLD WAR on terrorism? Hide under your desk and maybe that will do some "good" and you will be safe until they come for your head.

Although leveling 'Mecca' (or any other nation that spawned terrorists) would not make any friends...it would illustrate to all ME leaders and terrorists who are hell-bent on blood letting, it will be their own.

Context is your friend. Please make an effort to understand and use the concept of "context," and you can thereby avoid looking and acting foolish.

If you've paid any attention to my posts in this thread, you'll have noted that I applied the term "acting like nazis" to one type of suggestion only -- that of retaliating against individual terrorist acts by leveling Iraqi cities (and also the occasional suggestion of killing all the inhabitants who managed to escape). I have noted the similarities between such tactics (and their motives) to the nazi atrocity at Lidice.

Nobody has yet seen fit to counter the similarity. Instead, there have been attempts to justify the act, on generally ill-considered grounds. Many have dispensed with reason altogether, and have chosen to toss around insults instead.

BTW, you might have picked up on the fact that the beheadings, and probably many of the other attacks, are being done by non-Iraqis. (Certainly the 50+ folks our bombs killed in Fallujah in the past couple of days were foreigners.) I'm sure you'd agree that destroying Iraqi cities in response to the actions of Saudi or Syrian terrorists would be a remarkably stupid thing to do.

If you have read this thread, you will also note that I have discussed WWII bombings on this thread. IF you pay attention to those posts, you'll find that your little sermon was not required.

Perhaps you mis-read my post....I was calling for leveling of all cities that harbor terrorists, regardless if in Iraq, Afghanistan, or Saudi Arabia (especially those fuelinig terrorism on Iraq from outside nations).

The context is TYRANNY, which the U.S. has fought in wars of the 20th century. Terrorism began many decades ago and insisted on gaining our attention. However, this war is no different from any other.

If the enemy is concentrated in one area, why allow them to continue their murder and mayhem? BOMB THEM! Just as the "decapitation" strike before the war killed some "innocents" when it intended to take out the dictator of Iraq and save lives. If those who don't want to be bombed would eliminate the terrorist, it would not be necessary to do so in our own way.

I must compliment you....some of your earlier posts were fine examples of a fool's sermon.

Look, just because terrorists are in a city, doesn't mean that the city "harbored" them. Most people don't even know the bad guys are there -- and a lot of them probably wouldn't want them if they knew the bad guys were there. But it looks like you'd kill them regardless.

My only consolation in this discussion with the rancid "kill 'em all" crowd is that you're spending your manly energy screeching murder on FR, rather than making a hash of things in the real world.

Maybe this statement is missing one crucial word "KNOWINGLY" would be that word ! Iraq ,Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia "KNOWINGLY " harbors these Murdering Thugs Detroit and Bufflalo Were not seen as Knowing Harborists of terrorists but these other countrys were KNOWN to harbor Terrorists for decades !

Iraqi's know who is a foreign-based terrorist and who does not belong. If they were determined to eliminate the thugs, there would be no reason to bomb them. However, foreign-based terrorists were embraced by many locals, in so-called "negotiations". As well, their children parade in the streets with bodies of burnt victims of their murdering brethren.

When they negotiate in the Middle East, people die. I just think it should be the "bad guys" and the more of them the better. Nuclear option should never be taken off the table in a time of war (if you are too afraid to use nukes, why have them?) if you wish to keep thugs from running amok. After all, the only good Jihadi is a dead jihadi.

Unless we can stop them, NO ONE will want to be associated with us - the price will be too high.

During the Civil War, the Union High Command, through Custer, threatened to hang any of Colonel Mosby's raiders if they were caught. Custer actually DID hang one or some - I can't remember.

Mosby retaliated with Union prisoners drawn at random. It worked.

I'm not trying to equate the minds of Americans of the 19th Century with the twisted, sick brains of these anachronistic vermin. But this WOULD work.

They live, as I said in a tribal world where family and tribal connections mean everything, even more than one's own life - which they apparently hold at a low price anyway.

Even if such actions did not deter the actual culprits, the consequences might induce their relatives to turn them in before they were forced to pay the price for the terrorist's action.

Dresden was bombed in January, and the fighting continued until May. Germany finally surrendered because a) Hitler was finally dead, and b) the Allies had overrun most of Germany with their armies. More to the point, the Germans did not surrender after the Allies began city raids much earlier in the war. (For example, Hamburg was bombed in 1943, with the loss of up to 100,000 civilian lives.)

Nagasaki and Hiroshima certainly did convince the Emperor to finally give up. However, the Air Force had been destroying Japanese cities for months prior to that (you can look it up -- I believe I provided a link), and the Japanese did not surrender. The defeat of Japan was made possible by the Island-hopping campaign that brought our army and navy to within actual striking distance of the main Japanese islands, and our navy's destruction of Japan's naval forces.
