On Saturday Oct 2nd Rush Limbaugh made a rare public appearance in Chicago to help celebrate WLS-AM's 80th Anniversary. Rush was the "opening act" and did a 30 minute live talk/speech pretty much summing up that the old media is dead and that we political activists on the conservative side are the new leaders of the media with our ability to communicate instantaneously over the Internet. Rush received a standing ovation and looked and sounded great. The friends that accompanied me were impressed with his ability to make his 30 minute speech with only one break to take a sip...

My burg's I-Man affiliate yanked him when he claimed a rival broadcaster's wife had had sex with a football team.
Credibility gap, I guess.
Quack quack.

Tuesday, Veep Debate Day

Joe Lockhart v Mary Matelin on CBS morning show and just the small part I caught, Joe had Mary on the run about "no child left behind", in fact she didn't get a word in until she had to ask Harry the host an obvious time filler question.

But she finished strong by predicting: "Edwards would attack, attack, attack, without offering plans or solutions, and that's why we will win this debate and the election".

On FOX&Friends, Fred Barnes & Mort Kondracke...didnt' hear either of them say anything new.

Elin Nordegren and Tiger"worth 300 million" Woods getting married today...and she signed a pre-nup.

On ABC's GMA, "In New York State there is no life in prison without parole", says Chris Cuomo, and that's why his killer keeps coming up for parole. Cuomo says unlikely Lennon's murderer will win parole...and then gives the age Lennon would be if he hadn't been murdered, and gravely reminds viewers what John Lennon would be saying right now if only he were alive. (We are supposed to dream, er...make that " i m a g i n e" Lennon would win this election for Kerry..gag me!)

Charles Gibson welcomes Ann Coulter to GMA. He thinks Ann Coulter has honed the fine art of nasty political debate, and asks why this nastiness happens. Ann Coulter says, the difference is now "we can shoot back". She says there was no handwringing over nasty attacks before, she reminds Gibson how Goldwater was portrayed as a madman, how for years there was no conservative response to media attacks.

She won't let Gibson get away with asking what's the point of mean spirited attack politics. He reads some points from her book: Kerry is a gigolo, Max Cleland is Kerry's hysterical lapdog, but Gibson tries to interrupt her when she answers point by point. She didn't let him get off that easy, and goes on to list each point.

Kerry wants to claim his 4 months in viet nam qualifes him to be commander in chief. Well, Ann says, then Kerry can't claim to be an expert on taxes, when he's a gigolo, specializing in marrying heiresses, and doesn't know a thing about working or paying taxes. She makes the point Max Cleland who didn't earn a purple heart becasue his injuries weren't combat related. Ann refuses to back down on anything she wrote. She says yes, the war went well, and reminds Gibson that every prediction from the left and the New YOrk Times was wrong. She lists how they were wrong.

Gibson wants to know why this mean rhetoric can't stop, and Coulter reminds Gibson how George Bush tried, and see what happened. Bush was rebuffed when he tried to end the word wars. Bush tried to be friends with Ted Kennedy, invited him to the White House, named a building after his brother, and look (you idiot), how Kennedy paid him back.

Ann called modern day democrats "jock sniffers". It was fine with them to have a "pot smoking draft dodger as commander in chief with Clinton, but now they want to excoriate Bush because he didn't serve in Viet Nam.

IMHO Ann's the best conservative voice on TV. There are many others that are Ok, but she's the man woman.

David Gregory was just on Imus. He was pretty weak. Usually he's pretty sharp, but today he sounded like he got drunk last night. Proably some cheap FRENCH wine.

Off topic but FR's spell checker seems to be acting up. It thought every word in this post was wrong.

Michael Beschloss, Presidential Historian on Imus: Beschloss was watching the debate on PBS that had no cutaways, and the group he was watching with, didn't think Bush did nearly as bad as some of the talking heads. guess he doesn't know C-Span showed the debate entirely on split screen, which was the best way to view it, I thought. Bush looked peeved all right...and who wouldn't with the pretzelized stuff Kerry was spouting?

Beschloss thought it was pretty even debate, says Bush followed Clinton method of repeating important points. Says Bush is ahead 5-6 points accoridng to WashPostABC poll this morning.

Beschloss says Estes Kefauver was drunk, and Spiro Agnew was taking bribes...that won't happen anymore with the scrutiny of these debates.

Beschloss is blaming Cheney for the War in Iraq becasue Cheney had such influence over Bush. He rhetorically asks: Would we even have gone to war if Bush had chosen Danforth for VP instead of Cheney? but the historian doesn't even take into the equation 9-11.

Beschloss says we might hear Cheney tell Edwards that after only one term in the senate, you hardly have the necessary foreign policy experience. I WISH we'd hear Cheney tell viewers that the only reason Edwards ran for presidente and settled for VP is becasue he would have lost his senate seat.

I don't feel guilty over sleeping this morning as you've summed up what I missed better than most reporters could have done. Although I would have enjoyed watching Charlie squirm.

I can't recall the nasty comment Beschloss directed at GWB but it followed their discussion of Kerry not stopping the bus to visit IMUS at the ranch. Perhaps he was simply quoting IMUS' nasty comments which he's directed at both Kerry and Bush but I thought he referred to GWB as a war criminal. Did you hear it?

When I switched to foxnews, they reported that Bush intends to give a 'big' policy speech tomorrow but never discussed time or place. Anyone know?

Rush on tonight's VP debate. This is not the swimsuit competition from Miss America.

Imus called it Dr. Doom vs The Breck Girl

CNN this morning called it Darth Vader against Batman's sidekick Robin.
