Federal Agents Arrest Al-Qaeda Sleeper Agent In Queens

(New York-WABC, June 16, 2004) — The FBI has arrested an American citizen living in Queens said to be a sleeper agent for Al Qaeda.

ABC News reports investigators have tied the man to a terrorist cell set to carry out a series of bombings and assassinations in London.

The man, a naturalized citizen from Pakistan, was secretly taken into custody in April.

He is being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Lower Manhattan and is said to be cooperating offering investigators significant information about Al Qaeda's plans.

He is being held as a material witness and his family is now under federal protection.

The man has told investigators that Al Qaeda is planning more attacks in the United States. He has also revealed a scheme to smuggle terrorists across the Mexican border.

The suspect's assertions were part of the intelligence that led to recent warnings about a summer threat from Al Qaeda.

Another man being held today is kidnapped American Paul Johnson.

A video on an Arabic website shows Johnson blindfolded. His abductors claim to be with a group called "Al Qaeda In The Arabian Peninsula." They say they'll kill Johnson unless Saudi authorities free Al Qaeda prisoners by Friday.

Johnson was taken hostage last Saturday. He has worked in the kingdom since 1992 for defense contractor Lockheed Martin. His son is now trying direct appeals to the kidnappers.

Paul Johnson III, Son: "Whoever's responsible for this, I would trade in a heartbeat for my father. He doesn't deserve this and I plead with y'all to please let my father go."

Johnson's abduction is part of a growing campaign to kill and kidnap Americans, pushing them out of the Saudi Arabia. The royal family vows to pursue anti-western militants more aggressively than ever before.

Frankly, a good start would be to put razor wire around the entire city of Paterson, NJ.

huh, what's your point-a kinda 'non sequitor'?-isn't the Pres. still supposed to be shouldering his Constitutional duties to guarantee the security of our borders, etc..?

I have had Bush haters tell me that the terrorist threat is exaggerated in one breath and then tell me that if the terrorists strike the U.S. before the election, it will be Bush's fault for not paying enough attention. You just can't win an arguement with someone who holds every position at once and sees not contradiction in any of their beliefs.

"He has also revealed a scheme to smuggle terrorists across the Mexican border."

Do they really need a "scheme" or do they just simply walk over the border.

Often overlooked fact: US/Mexican border is 2,000 miles long.

Here's the recently declassified scheme to smuggle people into America from Mexico:

Get to Mexico, hitch a ride north.

End of scheme.

Now can we close the border ??

That phrase caught my eye, too. One of these days, we're going to have to face down the "immigrant vote" and create some decent (and enforceable) immigration laws.

'He has also revealed a scheme to smuggle terrorists across the Mexican border.'

I have been saying this for years; but people think I'm crazy.

Just in case anyone missed all the other posts that pointed this out:

He has also revealed a scheme to smuggle terrorists across the Mexican border.

The depredations of the Mexican slave economy have already cost many human lives. They are going to cost many, many more lives if we don't face the truth.

As citizens, we must hold all our leaders accountable for their roles in this ongoing national travesty.

Hopefully, our votes count more than all the kickbacks from those who profit from the slave trade, but I can't honestly say at this point if that's true.

I believe the point was that you and I, the general public, do not know nor need to know all of the enforcement activities going on at the borders. NOTE: I'm NOT saying that the borders are entirely secure, but that this administration (which has shown it CAN keep a secret) is undoubtedly doing more than we know.

My $.02, anyway.

About Paul Johnson side to the story - maybe it's meant to be an example of the wide contrast between the U.S. way and the terrorist way of holding prisoners and communicating news.

Even if not meant, it is.

Is this "new news" to you?

The rest of us have known it for years, as well as the Bush administration.

I notice a pavlovian response amongt a group here when the phrase "Mexican border" is uttered.
