$40 Reagan Bill, Reagan Forty dollar bill

Posted on 06/15/2004 3:44:35 PM PDT by fishtank

A caller to Savage suggested a new $40 bill with Reagan's portrait.

No one here has talked about this. I kind of like the idea: $40 for the 40th President.

That way we don't have to retire any current bills.

Iran/Contra was poetry.

The evil DemonRats had to be circumvented before the betrayed another ally and caused a couple million more deaths.

Three great things happened:

  1. Our enemy Iran was tied up in a nasty war.
  2. Our hated "ally" Iraq was tied up in a nasty war.
  3. Money raised from the sales of arms to our "hated ally" went to the Contras fighting the commies that were supported by our DemonRats in congress.

All in all, sheer poetry.

I also think its inappropriate to honor someone who slaughtered so many Americans-even in the line of duty.

Gee, there go Washington and Eisenhower.

The $500 note is illegal thanks to our world-famous War on Drugs. Most international traffickers don't use cash anyway these day. Bearer bonds are the way to go. A $250 note with Reagan would be nice unique additon!

Do you like hearing,"I'm sorry we can't break that large a'bill"?

If you drive a big enough SUV, it would be just right for buying a tank of gas. :)

because Jackson, who murdered a man in a duel
A duel..? Are you sure?
I thought he shot the man in cold blood for disparaging his wife.

Anyways, yes, you're right. He is a Democrat, and the founder of their party, no less. Which is why the Democrats who controlled Congress honored him on the $20, and likewise, why I say he should be replaced by Reagan.

Hmmmm...

Jackson was a slave-owner, and is on our currency...

Paging Reverends Jackson and Sharpton. Clean-up on aisle 20.

Take USELESS Grant off the $50. He was a rotten President.

I also think its inappropriate to honor someone who slaughtered so many Americans-even in the line of duty.

It was a different time. After the war many confederate officers served in congress, including Gen. Johnston. Gen. Johnston served as a pallbearer to both Sherman and Grant. It rained during Grants funeral, many insisted that Gen Johnston keep his hat on. But he would have none of it, saying that, "Grant would do the same for me." He died 10 day's later, from a cold he caught at Grant's funeral.

My point is, that all that served, Union or Confederate, deserve the same honor and respect, that the participants showed for each other.

"Besides, everyone knows that Barney Frank is the only one worthy of the $3 bill."

Ahhhh but I'm afraid that's where you're in error.

Barney's earmarked for the 3 & one-half dollar bill.

...Barney Frank rates a genuinely queer amount.

A decent Dollar coin is way overdue

Until the eliminate the dollar bill, the dollar coin is doomed to failure.

When I was tending bar, I had a guy ask me for change of a fifteen dollar bill. So I gave him two sevens and a Susan B. (rimshot)

Putting Sacagewea on it, and making it gold was cool, but when they released the Sacagewea dollar, they re-relesased the feminazi dollar, so neither went anywhere.

According to the U.S. Mint, the Susan B. Dollar hasn't been produced since 1981.

Put Reagan on a dollar coin, and melt all the others down. It would soon be one of the most circulated currencies, which is why they put the most prominent people on the smaller denominations.

Stop printing paper dollars, and take the Susan Bs out of circulation, and the dollar coin will take off. Most vending machines accept them already.

Now, if you really want to honor Reagan, then name an airport after him... er, name an Aircraft Carr... uh, how about a Federal Buil... aw shucks, nevermind.

Don't get me started. I think we should be on a silver/gold standard.

No argument from me. Although I do think that gold would be better, as [I believe] silver has a few more industrial uses. Using it as the standard would send the costs soaring.

Put President Reagan on the $100, but do it unannounced. Then, suddenly, give 60 days to trade in all your $100 bills for the new ones. The drug dealers and cash business tax evaders will have to explain the source of funds (under existing laws, cash transactions over $10,000 have to be reported).

No, I do NOT love the IRS, but I'd like to see them get a lot of those bad guys.

I can picture the panic, as they scurry from bank to bank, asking for change of $9,900 at each, in twenties!

Well, I'm no history expert, but the biography at whitehouse.org says Jackson killed the man, who had slandered his wife, in a duel. Can you imagine, in 2004, a killer using as his defense the claim that he was dueling his victim for saying things about his wife?

Maybe Jackson's lawyer was the Johnny Cochran of the 1820's.

Here's a modest proposal I'd like to throw out for comment and discussion:

1. Eliminate the penny and half dollar.

2. Put Abraham Lincoln on a dollar coin that's larger than a quarter and smaller than a half and RETIRE THE DOLLAR BILL like the Canadians did.

3. Put President Ron on the dime, with dual minting of Roosevelts and Reagans. (I know the animus many on this board have for FDR, but RWR personally admired the man)

4. Mint a gold, silver and platinum commemorative in honor of President Reagan.

Fire away!

Regards,
Lenny

Do you mean whitehouse.gov?
I'm no history expert either, but I know a lot of times the only difference between a "duel" and "shot in cold blood" was the status of the gunman involved...

Nowadays they've replaced "duel" with "suicide".

Yep. The $25.00 bill. Packs some extra punch and is much easier than a Rushmore makeover.
