Bon Jovi Hosts $1M Fund-Raiser for Kerry

Tuesday June 15, 2004 2:46 AM

RED BANK, N.J. (AP) - Musician Jon Bon Jovi says criticism and intimidation won't stop him from speaking out in support of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, who raised $1 million at the singer's home Monday night.

``I've received hate mail at my house. I've had people drive by my home and shout things out,'' Bon Jovi told guests gathered outside his home along the Navesink River. ``And I think that they question my patriotism because I decided to stand up and have a voice. And I stood up to have a voice because I think that's the most American thing that you can do.''

More than 300 people attended the fund-raiser, including actors Meg Ryan, James Gandolfini and Steve Buscemi, both of HBO's ``The Sopranos,'' and Richard Belzer of NBC's ``Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.''

Kerry arrived via helicopter from Atlantic City, where he was staying the night and speaking to an AFL-CIO convention Tuesday morning.

``I know it makes a lot of you nervous,'' Kerry told the guests, ``the idea of my coming here to a fund-raiser, leaving at 8:30 with a million dollars and then 11 o'clock I'm on the news at the blackjack table in Atlantic City. I promise I will not gamble with your money the way George Bush has gambled with the money of this country.''

Let's see it!

The hate mail that is, not the house.

Wasn't Bon Jovi a polka band back in the 80's?

Uh, Jon? I don't think you're being targeted for your politics or patriotism.

People are sending you hate mail and yelling as they drive by your house because Bon Jove sucks.

My question is why? Terr-aaa-zah Heinz has millions or billions and Soros has pledged his entire billions to th defeat of George W. Bush so, Kerry don't need no more stinking money. He is already advertising heavily in my neighborhood of Central Virginia in a extremely conservative district of a very conservative Commonwealth. Only Northern Virginia, Richmond and the Tidewater area are liberal and even there it's mixed. It's only June... I wonder what it will be like by August-September?

Same old, same old. Remember Bon Jovi pumping up a crowd in Floriduh just before the election in 2000. Same team this time, except the candidate is far worse, many of the best demon political operatives are not on board, and George Bush has the advantages of incumbency and a roaring economy. Jon Bon and his money are soon parted (and to no effect).

I'm disappointed in hearing this, I thought he was one of the good guys

I remember reading that he was an ex NY Firefighter and was very supportive of them post 911.

If it was for Kerry, and not DNC, then that's got what? a $2k or so cap per individual donation.
If I can do a little math, wouldn't that be 500 people giving the max $2k each? Were some of the "over 300" guests carrying little envelopes addressed to kerry from other people? Their personal trainers, grocery clerks, relatives, friends, etc.?
Doesn't smell right, but it never does anyway....

Speaking of which, what is the website that lets you look up kerry and Bush donations by name and/or zip code? It would be interesting to bounce some of the names on the guest list against kerry's donations (although that would probably take a couple months for them to report officially.)

Kit.

Sob, sniffle...you...you ok, Jonny-Boy?

Now after your cookies and milk, go put on your feety PJs and hide under your bed.
