I read somewhere on Friday that the Nixon daughters were there representing their father. This makes sense since the other Presidents were there in person.

The oval office huh? The scene of the most infamous event in his regime.

And anyone know who the artist is?
Probably Andres Serrano or Chris Ofili.

Here's a third quotation that seems apt:

"The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it."
~Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray, 1891

Clinton bent over at the waist and could hardly control himself.
Not the first time, I suspect.

Sargent is one of my favorite portrait artists, too, as is John Howard Sanden. His portrait of the Rev. Billy Graham is beautifully done, the personality captured perfectly with that intense, straightforward look he has. Mr. Sanden's portrait of Robert Byrd had to have been done a long time ago. Curiously, the painting is the work of Ivan Albright, who was the father-in-law of Clinton's Sec. of State Madeline.

Very interesting. The Portrait of Dorian Gray and Bill Clinton were made for each other.

One of our best friends did the portrait for Gov. Jesse Ventura. It can be seen here.

It looks very impresive up close. From an article: "The oil-on-canvas painting shows Ventura outdoors, under a darkened sky, determined and purposeful. He's depicted in a dark suit, red-white-and-blue tie. Pinned to his lapel are his Navy SEAL team insignia and his Navy "jump wings." The background of the painting depicts a distant Minneapolis skyline and the Minnesota state Capitol building. It also features the light-rail transit line that Ventura championed during his four years in office. Ventura rests his hand on a version of Auguste Rodin's sculpture, The Thinker. During his run for governor, Ventura posed in the sculpture's famous chin-on-fist position to contrast with his reputation as "the Body." Ventura chose his long-time friend and former tag-team wrestling partner, Stephen Cepello, to produce the portrait. Cepello says the former governor's only request was to include his Naval insignia and to keep the painting dignified. Cepello says the other allegorical flourishes were based on his 25-year friendship with Ventura. "I sat in front of my easel, and I pondered: Was this to be a memorial? Or maybe a stay of mortality? Or a testimony to a fiercely independent personality of my friend Jesse? I chose them all," he said."

Re #492: Thanks for the comparison photos. A big clue is that extremely few people can carry off the part-down-the-middle type of hairstyle, certainly not anyone with a, er, generous nose. If I recall correctly, Mrs. Clinton had that problem in some of her photos from a couple of decades back. The lighter hair on mother and daughter is much more flattering to both.

I'm astounded that a pantsuit, particularly that black one, was the choice, with all the designers available to a First Lady.

Does the "smartest woman in the world" really not know the image that conjures up?

I'll bet it's painted on black velevet and glows under black light.

I don't know; that's probably too classy for those two.

You must admit it sure would look nice between a on oversized picture of Elvis and the classic "Dogs Playing Poker" painting. The impact of those three pics could surpass the Cistene (sp?) Chapel in splendor.(TIC)

Actually, it might be a good idea to display it in a room with a concrete floor and a drain to catch anyone's stomach contents that happen to come up.

Okay, I'll admit it. I just don't like Chelsea for a couple of reasons:

-- she traveled everywhere with her parents and sucked up my taxpayer money doing it.

-- she started her first job out of college with a six-figure income because of her parental contacts...not her own merit.

I just don't like her. Happy?

Not happy but we all have our reasons and I sort of pity the child....I am on the record for at least a decade that she will write a book someday that will not be a happy family unit book....so I hold out hope...Happy?
