Bible 'leads to Israeli oil bonanza'
The Guardian ^ | Sunday June 13, 2004 | Conal Urquhart

The bible has inspired many to have faith in heavenly joy, but now an Israeli company believes it has helped it find wealth on earth. In an announcement that could shift the power balance in the Middle East, it claims to have discovered a £3 billion oilfield in the centre of Israel. But Tovia Lushkin says his company, Givat Olam, needs £18 million to develop wells and extract the oil.

The find comes as instability in Saudi Arabia and Iraq has forced oil prices to a 15-year high which may yet slow global economic growth.

but weren't all mineral rights relinguished as part of the deal? I don't think Israel has any claim on whatever oil there might be under their land

Huh?! Israel is a 100% sovereign nation that has total and absolute rights over their land.

but wouldn't it be fun to see the French (nay, European) reaction if Israel turned into an oil exporting country?
YES! LOL I was just joking about the oil because $18 mil seems a drop in the bucket if there really is a chance for a big reserve so why the "we just need help getting $". Reminded me of the Nigerian letters. Synchro & CyberAnt, I am not familiar with that passage in the Bible. Please tell me which one talks about oil.

Prophecy being fulfilled! Asher shall dip his foot in oil! I have been following this for a while - waiting for the company to go public and hope I can get at a reasonable price!

Here's another one:

Isaiah 60:5  Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.

The 'abundance of the sea' probably refers to the mineral value of the Dead Sea, which is staggering.

I don't know all the details about how Israel became an independent country, but weren't all mineral rights relinguished as part of the deal? I don't think Israel has any claim on whatever oil there might be under their land. Maybe the deal was brokered after the 1967 war.

I've never heard anything even remotely resembling that.

Cute story which has been around a while. If they don't find oil, maybe they'll make a movie. Ex quarterback and hell raiser Hayseed" Stephens finds religion, goes to Israel, finds an ancient scroll and discovers oil. I never knew Isaiah has a Texas translation.

..................

Israel home to world's largest oil field?--U.S. expert plans massive drilling project at Dead Sea

By Kaye Corbett,
WorldNetDaily
(copyrighted)
Tuesday, October 6, 1998
IRVING, TX. -- A $30 million, six-to-eight-month project to uncover the world's largest oil field atop a salt dome at the southwest end of Israel's Dead Sea, is expected to begin in early 1999, according to respected Texas oil man, Harold "Hayseed" Stephens.

Until now, Israel's Islamic enemies have possessed nearly 75 per cent of the world's oil reserves with Israel's supply only a fraction of that. It's reported that Islamic nations such as Saudi Arabia, all sworn enemies of the tiny Jewish state, have trillions of barrels while Israel has only enough oil to supply itself for about one and a half days and depends on other countries for the remainder.

Stephens, a one-time "hell-raiser" and former pro football quarterback with the New York Titans, explained Israeli oil officials had approved his lease in early September and drilling equipment would likely arrive at the site early in the New Year.

Besides being an oilman, Stephens is an ordained minister and said the drilling of Elohim Parezim #1 (meaning "Lord of the Breakthrough") in the Dead Sea area could mean "the entire geopolitical system will be changed forever."

The lease license is called Hesed, meaning "the God that keepeth covenant for a thousand generations," and part of that license is the Ness Carveout, named after the Texan's company, Ness Energy (Ness in Hebrew means "miracle").

"God has it all orchestrated," explained Stephens, who spent Succot in Israel and visited the Dead Sea site.

Stephens had planned to visit Israel in early June; however, he claimed the Holy Spirit informed him to wait and let Israeli oil officials come to West Texas.

On Friday, June 26, in a hotel at the Dallas-Fort Worth airport, history may have been changed forever.

It was no ordinary corporate business meeting.

The Israeli delegation was led by Yossi Levy, director/president of the Israel Oil Company, Inc., from Petach Tikvah, Israel and Haim Tsuff, chairman of the board of the Israel Oil Company, who now lives in Holland.

Astonishing geological and geophysical evidence led to the signing of an historic agreement between Israel Oil Company, Inc., and Stephens' "Christian-owned" company, Ness Energy, International.

It is believed that there are vast amounts of oil in the Dead Sea region of Israel sufficient enough to free the nation from dependence on foreign energy sources and from vulnerability to economic "pressure" to give up land for peace.

After the June 26 meeting, Stephens received the lease from Israel and then returned to Israel for his 55th visit.

Stephens has relied heavily on the Scriptures and prophetic words, in addition to the supporting geological studies, during the emotional roller coaster that's associated with the oil business.

The Dead Sea, once known as the Valley of Siddim, was in ancient times, a beautiful, lush region filled with bubbly lakes of oil, according to Genesis 13:10-11 and 14:10 with Jericho being its major trading center.

Then came the dramatic destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah and the formation of the Dead Sea. (Genesis 19: 24-25, 28-29)

The Hebrew translation of Isaiah 45:3 reads:

"I will shoot up to you deposits stored in valuable dungeon-type containers, so that you will know that I Am the Lord your God, who called you by name."

However, Stephens had his own version:

"I will shoot up (Texas terms: I will gush up to you) deposits (oil deposits) that are stored in the valuable dungeon-type containers (oil traps) so that you will know that I Am the Lord your God Who called you by name."

It should be noted, Stephens said, that in Isaiah 45, God is talking to a Gentile, King Cyrus.

He also explained that in Isaiah 60:5,

"because the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you, the wealth of the Gentiles shall come to you."

Stephens reiterated that a portion of the profit from the massive oil find will be used in the re-building of the Third Temple in Jerusalem.

In 1993, according to Stephens, more than 100 earthquakes in seven days rocked the area from Mount Carmel down to the Red Sea, redistributing the massive oil deposit buried from the days of Lot.

When Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed, the southwest end of the Dead Sea turned into a mountain of salt, and that salt dome stretches nine miles long, 3/4 miles wide and 18,000 feet deep. The salt has acted as a preservative for the past 4,000 years. It doesn't allow oil to flow through it.

"This is the area where Sodom was located," explained Stephens. "In Genesis 19, God ignited all of the oil and gas in that valley and then it rained back down and blew a hole 40 miles long, eight miles wide and three miles deep. Fire and brimstone fell into that hole and they eventually turned to salt. It made Sodom and Gomorrah oil boom towns."

Prominent born-again Christian oilmen have drilled in specific locations in Israel based on their interpretation of various Scripture references. Among them have been Gilman Hill, Andy Sorelle, Jr., and Canadian Lyle Harron. Hill invested $6 million at a drill site near Mount Carmel in the '70s.

It came up dry. Sorelle also drilled during the 80's, on the Mediterranean, and spent millions on various leases throughout Israel. Harron spent nearly a decade at a Netanya lease, just north of Tel Aviv. Even the late Armand Hammer was dedicated to finding "black gold" offshore in the Mediterranean.

After a tragic car accident involving his family cut short his playing days with the now-defunct Titans, Stephens returned to Texas to make his fortune in the oil business, and to the fast life of Las Vegas gambling and boozing.

In January 1978, Hayseed, who had been "partying" for days, had an experience like the Apostle Paul on the Damascus Road. He told Jesus he'd go anywhere, even to the North Pole. Shortly afterwards, he was holding his first revival above the Arctic Circle, at Prudhoe Bay, an Alaskan oil camp.

A meeting in 1982 played a key role in establishing Stephens' relationship with Israel and the Jewish people. Hayseed was one of the dozen Christian businessmen invited to pray with then Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin just prior to his making a decision on the war and invasion of Lebanon.

Stephens felt led by the Lord to give Begin a large, white Texas cowboy hat and it was then that Begin, unknowingly, spoke prophetic words: "Maybe you will be the one to come and find oil for us in Israel."

Two hours later, the Lord spoke to Stephens, telling him the "greatest oil field in the world" lay beneath the southwest end of the Dead Sea.

Read the prophecies about Israel.

Especially the ones that mention oil.

In the Old Testament, as I recall. I think George Otis initially had some involvement. I think as a result of a dream or vision.

There were some false starts of some sort. Financing for initial explorations was challenging. But in the last year or three, things have made a turn for the better. This is the 3rd or so serious report of very significant finds. As I recall, they are significantly deeper than usual.

This has been in the works for a decade or three. Several seismic studies have been done and a few wells drilled, as I recall.

Some have speculated that this oil find is part of what will drag Russia by a 'hook in its jaw' to attack Israel (some say, China as well will be coming after the oil as the Biblical "King of the East" with a massive army.

And if they reneg on the "deal", who is going to come in and take it? They can kick tail on all the combined arab countries, and Russia or China would have a long supply chain to maintian.

Clearly I don’t know zilch about mineral rights in Israel! LOL!

I listen to Michael Medved and I recalled a conversation he had last year with a caller who was complaining about Israel’s place in the world. The caller made the comment that Israel had “all this oil on top of taking away the home of the Palestinians”…Medved said that was not true, because Israel had signed away its rights after some conflict (don’t remember that part). I reckon I wasn’t paying close enough attention or just THOUGHT I heard something that wasn’t said. At any rate, after googling several Israel/oil/mineral rights topics, I was clearly misinformed.

There are significant oil reserves in the Sinai Peninsula, which Israel returned to Egypt (for the second time) as a result of the peace treaty in 1979. That's probably what Medved was commenting on.

There is another Israeli energy company that has hit gas offshore and has registered a $ 35 million IPO in the U.S. They have detailed reports up their web site ZION OIL.

Israel has to have huge, untapped oil reserves. They are surrounded by hostile Arab nations that have already tapped their reserves.

Israel's Ace in the Hole

Oil in the Holy Land

Israel is in its greatest peril since it was reborn as a nation. Israel has only one friend in the world, the United States. The nation of Islam, 1.3 billion strong, is a dedicated enemy that seeks to turn everyone else against Israel. They have learned to use the “oil weapon” to perfection in achieving this.

Most of the industrial world is now against Israel because of their need for Muslim controlled oil. Major Western nations like France and Germany have made secret oil deals with Muslim nations. Their oil deals with Iraq not only threatened the security of Israel, but also the U.S.

And now even U.S. support for Israel is on the decline, largely driven by the need for Muslim oil.

As I look at Bible prophecy, I know certain things. First, Israel will survive as a nation. Second, in the tribulation period that immediately precedes the Second Coming of Jesus, they will have enormous wealth. According to prophet Ezekiel, this wealth will be so great that it attracts a desperate attack by Russia and the Muslim Confederacy. This attack will actually be the first battle of the war of Armageddon.

So what wealth is Ezekiel talking about? Israel has achieved an agricultural miracle in the land, as predicted. She also has developed a world class high-tech industry. But none of these have brought the kind of wealth that is forecasted by the Bible.

The one source of this kind of wealth that would achieve the conditions of the prophecies is OIL. A major oil discovery would not only deliver Israel from the tyranny of the Muslim oil weapon, but also provide the great wealth that is demanded by the prophecy of Ezekiel. If Israel had a major oil discovery, it would change the entire balance of power in the Middle East and the world.

I believe that just such a discovery is possible. Last year I reported on an exciting new oil exploration in Israel by Zion Oil & Gas, Inc. (www.zionoil.com). It is the result of the persistence of a dedicated Christian named John Brown. He has been driven by a vision God gave him over twenty years ago. One miracle after another has enabled him to pull together a company of professionals that truly believe they are at the right place, at the right time to find a major oil reserve.

They are not operating on a ‘pipe dream’. The Jerusalem Post reported, “The oil potential of Israel was evaluated twice at the request of the Israeli government. In 1962, the former chief geologist at EXXON determined that ‘the potential ultimate oil resources of Israel should be of the order of 500 to 2,000 million barrels from primary recovery … In 1979, James Wilson, former chief geologist of SHELL (US) determined that on-shore Israel has a potential of 330 to 2,000 million barrels of recoverable oil. Both of these experts have been president of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists.”

Zion Oil has leased and is about to drill in what appears to be a recommended area for discovering oil. Geological records that now go back for decades have been carefully studied and plotted to verify this. But there is one geological source Zion Oil is using that I believe is the most important of all. It is the Bible itself. It so happens that the secular geological records coincide precisely with the area projected by the Bible.

In the early 1980s, John Brown was inspired by a series of messages given by a noted Bible teacher named James Spillman called, “The Treasures of the Deep.” He believes that God spoke to him and revealed that this was to be his mission in life.

He began to intensely study the Scriptures that predict certain riches would come to the descendents of two of Jacob’s sons in the “last days”. The first prophecy is made by the Patriarch, Jacob.

The time to which these prophecies apply is given, “And Jacob called his sons and said, "Gather together, that I may tell you what shall befall you in THE LAST DAYS …” (Genesis 49:1 NKJ) Here are some important excerpts from the prophecy concerning Joseph’s sons, “Joseph is a fruitful bough, A fruitful bough by a well … By the God of your father who will help you, and by the Almighty who will bless you with blessings of heaven above [and the] BLESSINGS OF THE DEEP THAT LIES BENEATH …” (Deuteronomy 33:13-16 NKJ)

The place where these blessings will be bestowed is also specified, “The blessings of your father have excelled the blessings of my ancestors, up to the utmost bound of the everlasting hills. They shall be on the head of Joseph, and ON THE CROWN OF THE HEAD of him who was separate from his brothers.” (Genesis 49:26)

Remember this.

The second prophecy concerning Joseph is made by Moses, “And of Joseph he said: ‘Blessed of the Lord is HIS LAND, with the precious things of heaven, with the dew, AND FROM THE DEEP LYING BENEATH, with the precious fruits of the sun, with the precious produce of the months, with the best things of the ancient mountains, with the precious things of the everlasting hills, with the precious things of the earth and its fullness, and the favor of Him who dwelt in the bush. Let the blessing come ‘on the head of Joseph, and ON THE CROWN OF THE HEAD of him who was separate from his brothers.’” (Deuteronomy 33:13-16 NKJ)

The third relevant prophecy is also made by Moses. This one concerns Jacob’s son Asher, whose allotted tribal land adjoins Joseph’s sons’ land, “And of Asher he said: ‘Asher is most blessed of sons; Let him be favored by his brothers, and LET HIM DIP HIS FOOT IN OIL.’” (Deuteronomy 33:24 NKJ)

As you look at the map of Israel’s tribal lands, note that ‘the toe of Asher’s land’ juts out into the ocean at the foot of Mount Carmel. From ancient times it has been called ‘the foot of Asher.’

But what has been overlooked is the shape of lands of Joseph’s two sons, Manasseh and Ephriam. Follow the outline and it looks like a man’s head with a crown on top. The ‘crown’ is up against the ‘foot’ shape of Asher’s land. I believe with John Brown and James Spillman that this is the key to the prophecies about blessing Joseph and Asher with riches in the last days with the treasures of the deep. And Asher is to dip his foot in the oil of that area.

Geological studies of Israel’s oil potential show an underground oil bearing formation that is in this area. It is in the very heart of this region that Zion Oil is being led to drill an abandoned well to a deeper depth. The well is called Ma’anit No. 1. Interestingly, it is located near the ruins of the ancient city of Megiddo, from which the apocalyptic name ‘Armageddon’ comes.

I believe that very exciting things are about to take place in Israel. If we are in the prophetic times that I believe we are in, it is truly time for things like this to take place.

I believe that the oil he was referring to were the oil wells in the last part of the Egyptian settlement. There were some oil wells there, just not a major find.
