U.S. Charges Australian Linked to al-Qaida
WASHINGTON - An Australian held at the Navy's prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, will face a military tribunal for allegedly training and fighting alongside members of al-Qaida in Afghanistan (news - web sites), the Pentagon (news - web sites) announced Thursday.

Not only oil. Im not sure how savvy you are with construction materials, but China (not to mention the Iraq war) has driven the prices of ALL things construction through the roof. I rewired my house last weekend. Copper wire is almost double what it was a few months ago. The 2x4s start at almost 4 dollars at Home Depot. They used to be just over two dollars there. I have a friend in the concrete business. Their prices have gone through the roof too. China is importing everything they can get their hands on.
You sure seem to have things figured out. You present quite a scary scenario but it sure makes a lot of sense.
Hmmm. Ok- I'm trying to recall--we were headed west on 78----The helicopters were to the right of the highway. I will check the map and try to figure out exactly where we were...
Dear milkncookies:
Re:This is the first time we have used this system.
And I hope it does not end up to be the last !
The Zarqawi letter referenced by CNN, Rueters, AP, and virtuall ever other news media out is the original four month letter that was intercepted by the US military in Iraq in February. I have compared the Arabic word for word and they are identical. The posting was made on the Islah.tv message board yesterday deliberately to embarrass the western media.
The FBIS translation was posted on the Iraqi Coalition website on February 12 at http://www.iraqcoalition.org/transcripts/20040212_zarqawi_full.html and by the US State Department at www.state.gov/p/nea/rls/31694.htm
If you review the "new" Zarqawi communication, you'll see that it is identical.
The dead giveaway in the "new" Zarqawi letter is this statement:
"We hope that this matter, I mean the zero hour, will [come] four months or so before the promised government is formed. "
The new government is formed; the transfer of authority is two weeks from now.
The news media outlets were notified of their error this morning; I would assume that they will be correcting it sometime today.
I thought it seemed familiar
Dear freeperfromnj-
I'm just trying to connect dots- and based upon the conclusion- decide what is the best thing to do.
I have two frail elderly parents living independently- (CT)
Two children- one in a target city- one out in the country. One "adult" child with a spouse whom I love dearly.
And just learned Saturday that I'll have my first grandbaby next Spring!
I read on Jill's site that she got into the jihad watch business in a sense to protect her family. That is the same initial motive I had for keeping up on world events.
Congrats on the grandbaby. Seems like we all have the same reasons for being here. That's what makes the TM so cool.
TOY REMOTE TRIGGERED BOMB
From correspondents in Frankfurt
June 16, 2004
A BOMB that injured 22 people on a Cologne shopping street last week was made by an amateur with a remote control used for toys, an investigator said today.
The remote control device could easily have been bought in a toy shop was of the type used for model cars, Cologne prosecutor Rainer Wolf said.
Police said the bomb consisted of a gas canister filled with gunpowder and nails.
The blast last Wednesday spewed nails along a shopping street in a Turkish immigrant neighbourhood of Cologne.
German Interior Minister Otto Schily has said it probably was the work of common criminals and not a terrorist group.
Police said investigators have received about 50 leads from the public but have yet to establish a motive for the attack, leaving all possibilities open, including a political motive, revenge or organised crime.
Hi, I'm just catching up. Yes, there was a concern at the Mall of America, at a cellular company kiosk as well. Since I last talked about it, all but one of the people are now missing.
Americans Called to Leave (Saudi Arabia)
WASHINGTON, D.C.-June 15, 2004 The U.S. government renewed its call on Monday for Americans to leave Saudi Arabia after the recent terrorist attacks, saying the safety of U.S. workers was more important than any effect on oil supplies or the Saudi economy.
New Attacks on American Workers
An estimated 35,000 Americans have been working in Saudi Arabia and it was unclear how many have left since the increase in attacks, which have come at the same time the Bush administration has been pressing the Saudis to boost oil production to help lower gas prices in the United States......
Islamic fundamentalists apparently linked to al-Qaida have been targeting Americans and other Western interests as part of a campaign to overthrow the Saudi monarchy in power since the 1930s. They consider the Saudi establishment too hospitable to Americans and other foreign "infidels."
The U.S. government has been urging Americans to leave Saudi Arabia for two months, and White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Monday that Americans should "take those advisories very seriously."
If you don't have an almanac in memory or don't have the correct time/position, then you resort to just "picking" a PN stream in hopes of achieving a match. High end GPS receivers will have 12 parallel channels. Each one is assigned a probable PN code. Once any channel locks up, an almanac can be imported and the time of day can be set. That improves the "search space" to reassign the other 11 receivers to more likely PN sequences. Once you lock 3 satellite streams, you can get a 2D fix. 4 streams allows at 3D fix. WAAS enabled receivers can achieve even better fixes with differential corrections transmitted by 2 geosynchronous satellites over the USA.
Given that background, you can readily comprehend how an aircraft with a strong GPS transmitter sending goofy data over all the real PN sequences can jam out the real GPS satellites.
The CDMA cellphones can be whacked with a similar technique, but it takes many more frequencies and PN codes to successfully kill the cellphones.
A word to the wise. Bring a good map and compass. Make sure you remember how to use them. Your GPS could be made useless in case of an outbreak of hostilities. More important, the ability of an enemy ICBM to use our GPS satellites to target U.S. locations can be effectively eliminated.
The answer might be that we're simply missing them. Meteors of any kind do tend to come in clusters: if you're not looking at the right place at the right time you'll miss them. I remember during the Puget Sound meteor episode during which time I was watching TV some people were telling of smaller booms long after the larger ones: these could have been smaller peer meteors.
Also, any kind of meteor storm comes at the earth from a certain incidence in the heavens. Only the part of the earth pointed in that direction will see the direct impact of the storm. It would be worth analyzing the recent meteor impacts to determine if the locations on earth correspond to a particular celestial orientation at the time they occurred.
Thanks, freeperfromnj! I freepmailed granny and am going to ask her for some crochet advice.....can't wait to start some booties!
At the same time that they want the civilians out, according to the jihadi posts Jill found, they WANT the US military to come in to SA to try to secure the oil. Then- they have us where they want us, supposedly. Then they attack Qatar, keep destroying things in Iraq- spread us thin. And probably use their oil-refineries-as-wmd on our troops in SA.
Now is when I think we need our allies to join with us in trying to stabilize SA, Iraq, etc.
We can't do it alone- and take care of everything else.
Wasn't there a post on TM some time ago, indicating that the Russians sold GPS jammers to the Iraqi's prior to the war? (And that they didn't work very well.)
I wonder what they sold/ GAVE to AQ in the way of GPS jammers, and I also wonder what they, themselves, possess.
Are there jammers for jammers?
