LIVE THREAD: Pres. Bush pays respects and calls on Mrs. Reagan
Posted on 06/10/2004 2:28:07 PM PDT by alisasny
Alot of dignataries are now showing up to pay respects. McCain, Guiliani, Gorby, Karzai, etc.
Cspan has live coverage. Bush expected at 7 but could be earlier? He is then going to visit with Mrs. Reagan.
Guard changes about every half hour at .28 and .58 of the hour. One is going on right now.

Ugh! Ted Kennedy Alert!!!I despise Kennedy but I saw him with Lott at some event honoring Reagan (maybe in 2003). When Lott spoke his remarks were distant and unmoving. Kennedy on the other hand spoke with such great affection that I was shocked. I don't believe he could or would make that up and so I conclude that his feelings about President Reagan are sincere.

It started when Ted Kennedy came in, now it stopped when he left. Sounded like a poodle caught in a beartrap.

How wonderful for Mrs. Reagan to accept visitors all day. Pres. and Mrs. Reagan have always been class acts.

Wonder how many people are going through an hour as there looks to be double rows of people on both sides? This is nothing short of astounding to see this on C-SPAN! It looks like a lot of young people are there which is great.

From earlier this morning. I am reposting because it says so much.
I happened to catch this cap this morning.
I thought it very touching. Showing up in
full dress shows great honor and respect.
The 'Chief' used the feather wand his is holding
to bless. IIRC, the blessing is to the 4 corners,
which represent the natural elements: earth, wind/air,
fire, and water.

It could be more then that as at any given time there is 100 people in that room. It takes about a minute to walk through.

They had been saying 5000/hr. However, that was before they doubled the paths in the rotunda. Maybe they did that to get as many through that wanted to pay their respects as possible.

I have sat here just mesmerized all day. I can't believe it when the Guard changes and a half hour has passed. I think my heart is just swelling with pride for President Reagan and his vision of our America once again. We can do anything!
