LIVE THREAD: Pres. Bush pays respects and calls on Mrs. Reagan
Posted on 06/10/2004 2:28:07 PM PDT by alisasny
Alot of dignataries are now showing up to pay respects. McCain, Guiliani, Gorby, Karzai, etc.
Cspan has live coverage. Bush expected at 7 but could be earlier? He is then going to visit with Mrs. Reagan.
Guard changes about every half hour at .28 and .58 of the hour. One is going on right now.

The people in line, in the Rotunda are NOT going to be cleared out as they have waited their time in line and deserve their moment also. This is another indication of just how humble and great President Bush is...he will not inconvenience all these people just for his own timing... It may have been said already, but if everyone has already gone through security, there is no reason for them to be cleared out. At least, it wouldn't seem that way.

Great pics and welcome to FR. I am sitting at home watching them while listening to Bolero and well... I am pretty tore up (with emotion only) now. Named my youngest son after Reagan, Ben Reagan just turned 3 the other day. I showed Ben Reagan the president for the first time the other day after he died, he looked at him for a few minutes and said to me "He was a cowboy right dad?" . I just smiled and said "yeah, he was a cowboy".

Uh, cspan cuts away from coverage to allow the vitriol to roll in. The CBS feed is just that - raw feed.
Works better for me and my blood pressure.

I've heard some rumors that Margaret Thatcher may accompany Nancy back to CA for the sunset burial.

I'm not sure if the Rotunda is open for viewing all night. C-Span is saying that they will be covering the church ceremony tomorrow, starting at 11:30 a.m. (eastern time).

Heard somewhere, Rush I think, that he didn't know the details but heard Pres. Bush's eulogy will be a major tissue alert. Off topic...(sorry) but I heard Rush's segment today when he compared Cheney's eulogy with those given at Wellstone's "memorial". Amazing difference.

They get paid to talk and inform us about things......unfortunately, I think it is uncomfortable for the media folks when there is just plain silence.

How do you do that? I'm assuming you are talking about recording the Internet not VCR from TV.

I had to go out for a few. Has the light been shining on the coffin since Bush was there or did they put it on again?

Lady Thatcher has been invited to accompany Mrs. Reagan back to California, I believe. I wonder if she'll be on the plane with her...I hope so. But she's definitely going to the graveside.

Look at his sigh.
All I know is that I would have lost it there. And even if I was prez, I wouldn't have cared...presidents are people too.
But, it probably was better that he try to keep a lid on it right then for the sake of everybody else there.
