The first wreath was from the Senate by the Senate Pro Stevens. Perhaps he was in the military, Hastert and Cheney were not.

Will they be showing the dignitaries before the casket?

have never heard a more beautiful rendition of "America, the Beautiful" than today's choral performance

Ethereal!

Somebody is wrong -- the former head of the ceremonial unit or Fox -- who knows!

Well, the official schedule says today was the state funeral and Friday is the national funeral.....not just a memorial service.

But, I was wrong earlier....darn Dan Rather deluded me into thinking it was just a "short ceremony."

Egg on the face, needless to say.

Cheney's words were beautiful...

Are there actually Freepers who are criticizing the events?

Is the Pope Catholic? Of course there are Freepers criticizing the events. The casket wasn't placed with geometric precision in the rotunda, the sentinel sailor was standing further from his corner of the casket than the others, people are wearing t-shirts and flip-flops to view the casket, Carl Levin was sitting down, the wreaths around the casket are "sissified", blah, blah, blah, waaah, waaah, waaah, shut up, no you shut up, etc.....it wouldn't be a live thread without it.

How often are they going to change the guard in the Rotunda?....seems like every 20 minutes now.

Well, that's what you get for listening to Dan Rather. :-)

If you can see videos of that Geneva meeting, you will see what I mean.

A late comment on your post about Gorby in Geneva. I just got home from DC a while ago.

There was a photographer interviewed on TV - Brit's show? - (I've also seen him several times on Dennis Miller's show, but do not remember his name) who took was there in Geneva, took a photo of the two men sitting on either side of a roaring fireplace, and made the same comment about Gorbachev really liking Reagan.

"she tolerated him when Reagan was alive..."

That is also my perception. That's why prevailing prayer is in order. May the Lord heal the wounds.

See these, especially the bottom one.

It wasn't as bad as what was done at the Wellstone memorial but it was the same tacky attempt to politicize a funeral and it was inappropriate. Just because it wasn't at the same degree as what was done by the dems doesn't make it right. It's important that Republicans figure out how to play politics smart and right. Timing is everything. Stevens blew it.

...I remember the Kennedy funeral procession well and I was amazed at the band music in today's procession. In 1963, it was only a muffled drum ...

I was telling my kids that I didn't remember music for JFK's...just the drum. I was only in second grade when my parents took me to see it, but I have never forgot the sound of that drum. JFK's funeral was more traumatic and somber. Reagan's is more a celebration of a great man. I think both are appropriate.

Watching them change is awesome. I wonder how long these folks had to practice to get their timing down?

Nope, and didn't see sKerry's "non-campaigning" face either. Pretty good day, IMHO.
