Arrival at Andrews Air Force Base scheduled for 5 P.M. EDT.
Beginning of procession: 16th and Constitution at 6:00 P.M.
---------
The procession begins at 16 th Street and Constitution Avenue with the ceremonial transfer of remains of former President Ronald Reagan from a hearse to a horse-drawn caisson for the processional to the Capitol. The casket transfer will take place at 6 p.m. and caisson continues east with formal military escort.
The public will be able to pay final respects while the remains lie in state in the Capitol rotunda from 7:00 p.m. through Friday, June 11, 2004 at 9:30 a.m.
Several million did the same.
Not me though! LOL! I voted for Nixon my first time.
Help! I don't own a tv, and need to see the coverage. Who is doing streaming?? Fox doesn't seem to, and MSNBC doesn't seem to be either. I'm having trouble with the CSPAN streaming. Help!!
Hopefully people weren't scared off from coming because of the length of the waits and line reported from Simi Valley. The capitol can accomodate a larger rate of people it appears.
Glad somebody on FR agrees. Because I live in L.A., I'm still at work. But I set the digital cable recorder for C-SPAN, and took a shot at also recording MSNBC. (Digital can record two shows simultaneously.) MSNBC generally does a better job with breaking news than either Fox or CNN.
Will be watching the recordings tonight. Sorry to hear MSNBC has Pat Buchanan and Chris Matthews on. I can't stand them, either.
A truly lovely ceremony. Not a Wellstone moment to be had. Naturally.
Matthews still suffers from Lingering Camelot Syndrome.
Now there is a campaign pledge!
True enough. I am 34 and I come from a family of Roosevelt Democrats. My father in fact was a member of the Youth International Party. My formative years, however, were during the Reagan era and I am sure that has shaped my thinking to this day.
BTW, my Mom and Dad now have a Bush-Cheney bumpersticker on their car. 9/11 has changed everything. The Lord moves in mysterious way.
bttt
Me too.
I wish I could have .. but I wasn't of voting age then
CNN says 100,000 people filing past the coffin.
that is terrible about Thatcher, that's the strokes have brought that.
I believe the eulogy Mrs. Thatcher pre-recorded is to be played on Friday.
Thanks for posting the picture of Lady Thatcher. I missed seeing her.
Good advice. By nature I give the benefit of the doubt, and I know no generation is a monolith. One thing the Gipper asserted, we are all individuals, no two of us alike.
He was close to dad though in the end, as I was with my ole man.
The kids are all individuals. They have respect, but don't get along well for the usual reasons.
" But he was a very sensitive man. I don't recall Reagan ever using 'Jesus Christ' in public."
Hey Sink -- what IS your freakin' problem??
That's three -- count it -- THREE different posters you've chastised for their respective evocation of the name "Jesus Christ" in this thread.
I'm in agreement, this is not a death due to a tragic event, such as an accident or a gunshot. This is a man who lived to be the oldest President in our nation's history, who is going on to be enshrined in glory after the fulfillment of what he accomplished is plain for all to see.
Besides, Ron and Nancy were movie stars, applause was always a satisfying part of their lives.
I always shake my head in amazement at the pundits (including some here) who consider Richard Cheney a liability to the President's re-election campaign. It's a bizarre perception.
