the delivery is not of the style I would like for this kind of event. Maybe he is just trying to cram all he has to say into a small slice of time..
That was sedate for Sen. Stevens. ;-)

They were each given five minutes.
Senator Stevens states that RR "grew up without much".
I know Sen. Stevens intent, but maybe he just forgot that RR grew up with Nelle Reagan teaching him, and showing by her example, the indomitable spirit of real Christiananity, compassion, honor, generosity, and humbleness.

I'm really looking forward to Cheney. By the way, these guys should have coordinated their speeches to avoid some duplication.

I was told the riderless horse has his bit under his tongue and they need to fix it. That's why he's so restless. most racehorsehorse have thier tongues tied to prevent that from happening for steering puposes but it would not make him restless.

Maybe for our Jewish cousins, he could pray in the name of Yesuha.

He could have made the same points in less pointedly partisan language.

Well, Senator Stevens words and delivery sound very patriotic and forceful but not very the most reverant eulogy I've ever heard. LOL

Ronald Reagan has returned to this rotunda, like another great son of Illinois--Abraham Lincoln.
Mrs. Reagan, thank you for sharing your husband with us.

YES! He said "evil empire" . This man is going to make sure people know Reagan lead us to victory in the cold war and slayed communism. I'm glad he repeated Reagan's words...

I disagree.
It is not political to discuss the achievements of someone at a funeral.
The speaker did NOT do what was done at the Wellstone funeral, but merely discussed the state of the country before, during and after the Reagan presidency and listed his achievements.
Entirely appropriate and done at every funeral I have ever attended.

DC Chapter On-Scene Report #4: BillF just called in. BufordP is at the moment being interviewed by MSNBC. (Dont know if its live or on tape.) BufordPs sign is a hit. It is a large sign reading Now THERE was a President! and has a big picture of President Reagan. AP and Reuters both took pictures of the sign. Some DC Police asked to have their pictures taken with it. 40-50 ordinary Americans also asked to have their pictures taken with the sign, often with BufordP as photographer.
BufordP, BillF, Jimmy Valentines Brother, Fred Mertz, and former FReeper Cal are on a recon mission to the Holiday Inn to se if the rest of the FReeper contingent can get a cold one there. It is still hard to get around, even on foot.

What differs from the Wellstone funeral is that no one is pointing out the Democrats and what they do/did wrong. No one dis-invited a Democrat. No one is handing out hotdogs and beer and yelling and screaming ala Howard Dean and making it a campaign speech. And, nobody from the other party is being booed.

Stevens spoke a little too fast. He could probably feel Daschle breathing down his neck.
