Kerry may view Reagan casket in Calif.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, flying to California on Tuesday to attend graduation ceremonies for his daughter, was considering paying his respects to Ronald Reagan as the former president's body lay in repose at his presidential library.

Kerry suspended public campaign events this week in honor of Reagan, who died Saturday.

Kerry and his aides were considering a visit Tuesday afternoon, the campaign said. The period in which Reagan will lie in repose at the library in Simi Valley, a community northwest of Los Angeles, was scheduled to end Tuesday evening.

Reagan's death has shifted attention from the campaign to national mourning and commemorations of his historical and political legacy.

Kerry planned to attend the state funeral for Reagan on Friday at Washington's National Cathedral.

Kerry's daughter, Alexandra, is graduating from the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. He planned to attend the ceremony and a screening of her short film, "The Last Full Measure," which tells the story of a 9-year-old girl and her father's difficult return home from the Vietnam War.

Kerry is a decorated Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. His daughter has said the film is not autobiographical.

And yes, he may not have to wait in line. Rightfully or wrongfully, a US Senator, does have time constraints that are more compelling than most. Were the lefty-righty thing reversed, I would expect the same.

One rule for thee and not for me ? Is that how you see it?

Sorry, but even senators are just ordinary people; one rule for all.

I agree. I've no problem with him going as long as he stands in line and does not get special treatment. And if his daughter goes also, she should not expose her sagging breasts. One channel showed what appeared to be street people or those who preferred to dress in Salvation Army surplus at the Reagan library. I would have expected more respect for a president who always acted and dressed properly in the Oval Office.

If Kerry pulls this obvious stunt, I hope he gets roundly booed plus plenty of Italian salutes as his cavalcade whizzes to the library neighborhood from his hotel or the airport.

I could really think of some great street corner signs to flash at him if I had the opportunity of seeing his bassett hound face peering out of a limo.

I wonder how many mourners in line will mistake Kerry for the undertaker if he shows up?

Kerry doesn't belong in that line, or any other Washington pol. This viewing is for people like you and me. Politicians have their own time when Ronaldus Magnus is in DC at the Rotunda.

sKerry is looking for more (long) face-time on the tube. And the Dems warned US against 'politicizing' President Reagan's passing?! What in God's Name are they doing!!!!?

SCUMBAG CYNICAL OPPORTUNIST ALERT!!

You want him to wait in line...I don't.

I hear the lines are now lasting 11 hours. Tes, I'd like to see him stand in line.

Oh, yuk.

If the rumor is true, I'll bet it was Patty, not Maureen.

Per FNC: Kerry to visit around 2:15 (I'm assuming that's local time).

If the area isn't sanitized for his protection, hope someone has the nads to ask Jean what the heck he's doing there in light of the things he's said about the former president.

If Kerry shows up he won't have to wait in the common line. They will not make him wait in line for security reasons.

As much as it galls me, you are correct, Kerry is a VIP visitor and should get the same VIP treatment as our own FREEPERS recieved last night.

I am curious to see though if he does as all the other VIPS and pays his respects with the crowds, just as Arnold did etc. -- or if he makes them STOP the Line so he can go in alone. THAT will be very telling.
