Reagan family has arrived in Santa Monica to escort President Reagan's body to his library.
Disappointing, but I'm quite sure the family knows what they are doing.
Staff is handing out water to folks in line as it is starting to warm up a bit.
I don't have kids, but I have had a lot of losses. I would say if you are going, there are some events that the children would be fine at, and bring a welcome light to dark moods. waiting along the processional road is one, but perhaps not the viewing.
Let them be happy, don't fight them to be somber when they just can't be... The only time I was upset about children at my mother's service was the unfairness of expectation and harshness in some parents. The parents were stressed, I forgive them, but the parent was a bigger interruption than the laughing and playing of a child, if that makes sense..
She could wear the black dress that the Kerry spawn wore to those snooty movie awards in France.
No links, please.
On Saturday one of the first jabs I heard about Reagan came from Tom Brokaw.
He was on MSNBC and told a story about, as his version went, Tip O'Neill informed President Reagan of the "underclass" and Brokaw said how O'Neill had to explain to the new President that there was a whole class of these people and Reagan wasn't even aware of this, Brokaw marveled.
It is best to remember him as we are seeing him portrayed in the media as a "healthy happy" man...I am sure that is how Nancy prefers to remember him...I do it out of respect to her and her BEST memories...
Does this mean that people can visit all through the night? I am planning to drive down there this evening. Does anyone know if the viewing will be available literally all hours?
we're not differing, just discussing, commenting..it's what friends do....and it isn't "my" standards...
I'm glad you reconciled...the alternative is unthinkable.
I have not seen my "real" father for nearly 15 years, but his behavior has made reconciliation impossible. I am afraid of him and will not subject my family to him anymore.
However, I have been blessed for 30 years with a wonderful step-father who I call dad. He married my mom when she had 4 little kids. Not many men would do that.
"How do you tell a communist? Well, it's someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do you tell an anti-Communist? It's someone who understands Marx and Lenin."
"Thomas Jefferson once said, 'We should never judge a president by his age, only by his works.' And ever since he told me that I stopped worrying."
Wonder if he had Bill Clinton in mind on this one: "Politics is not a bad profession. If you succeed there are many rewards, if you disgrace yourself you can always write a book."
Yes, MR and RR probably had more in commen then he did with Patty and Ron but he loved all his children.
We are blessed that at least one of Reagans children is carrying on the conservative voice.
THANKYOU MICHAEL : )
And how could we expect every child to carry on the torch of their parent. Thank God we dont have to worry about Amy Carter or Chelsea going to much into politics.
Rush: DNC refused to have headquarters flag flown at half staff
I think you're right, but I think I heard that it will be televised, it's just that it's invitation only.
Maybe Brokaw really is considering being Kerry's running mate. I know of his bias, but always thought he hid it the best of the "big three" network anchors. Lately he's been blatant.
Looks like we may make it a family history lesson -- brother to bring his 3 1/2-yr-old. Lots of snacks neccesary for brother and kids, lots of tissues for me.
Those things are delicate and get noticed when you have millions of eyes upon the ceremony.
IMO, Michael Reagan and his deceased sister, Maureen, would probably wish in the depth of their hearts not to dwell on that now, but wish to honor the man they loved, their father, Ronald Reagan.
"I never knew how much I loved this president until now."
So very well said. I almost feel like a member of my family has passed away.
I won't have a computer this week and will miss these live threads.
OMG - Rush just said that Peter Jennings had to bring up that Simi Valley was the site of the trial of the police officers who had beaten Rodney King!!!
Yes, that's what they said.
Rush just reported an email that said PETA Jennings reported (on ABCBS) that the memorial service was coming from Simi Valley...the same city where the trial of four L.A. police officers took place (from the Rodney King incident).
LIKE WE WERE BORN YESTERDAY!!!!
What a POS. So is Brokaw, so is Rather-not.
