I wonder who will have the honor of pall bearing. Poor Mrs. Reagan. I just feel so badly for her.
But, I suspect that if the Eisenhower Library says he was buried in a government issue casked with a glass sealer, then that's what he was buried in.
Another is Reagan's doctor from White House days, a Dr. Holt.
And Michael Deaver.
I didn't recognize the other two.
Merv Griffin is one of the pallbearers. And Reagan's personal physician another. That's all I know.
Trouble is, Hillary's "background" is too often in the foreground...
Better yet, I hope she stays at home. Billy as well, but guess he's got to attend. Hope they keep the cameras off him but they won't.
Like the 9/11 memorial service, he'd been out of power for a long time but the cameras kept keying in on Billy & Hilly. Shameful.
Why? The last 10 years have to have been hell. She has finally been freed.
I don't envy her then or this week.
In Simi Valley, at the corner of Madera Road and the entrance to the Library, a makeshift memorial is going on under the Library sign. One lane is coned off, with big electronic signs saying that it's a flower drop-off lane only -- and the lane is PACKED.
On the 118 from San Fernando Valley area, there are signs warning that Madera Rd. and the Reagan Library are closed. The Library road is closed, and has been since yesterday. Not sure if the Madera exit is closed or not, but you can definitely get to the Madera Rd. by taking First Street exit, and then winding around to Madera. Madera is open, but it's a mess.
We walked over to the memorial before church this morning and it's incredibly touching to see the flowers, flags and signs that people are placing there. We plan to take flowers later today.
Exactly! Since when does the money matter? He was our President and we will pay whatever it costs to allow the American people to pay him their respects and to give him a decent burial! After all he did for our country, we owe President Reagan at least that much!
Last I heard, which was during the press conference announcing the funeral details, President Carter still had not been heard from, either publicly or privately. He either has no class or has died himself.
He spoke to reporters this morning but I gather he has yet to contact the Reagan family either based on the press conference before on the funeral details.
ROTFL! I KNOW he has no class. Dead? Naw, we'd KNOW about that.
Mark
I'm no fan of Carter's, but he has spoken. CNN played his comments earlier today.
Please God, let security for this event be vigilant and total. All this country needs is for some DUer or other kook to throw red paint on the casket or otherwise vandalize it.
bump
LOL! I remember that...what a bright ray of sunshine Reagan was after the misery index! What a great President...the best in my life time, the best of the 20th century and probably one of the three greatest Presidents of this nation.
The casket in which JFK was buried in 1963 wasn't "original equipment". There's an interesting story about the bronze casket supplied by a Dallas undertaker right after the assassination, in which JFK's body was transported from Texas to Washington. Conspiracy buffs have latched onto this story as "evidence" of government complicity in the assassination. This casket was apparently damaged during the trip, and RFK ordered it dumped into the ocean off the coast of Delaware in 9000 feet of water after the funeral.
