From the White House web site re the G-8. It looks like the Reagan family may have extended President Reagan's lying-in-state so as to accommodate President Bush and the other G-8 leaders being able to attend Reagan's funeral.

[More info is available at] ...the G8 web site at www.g8usa.gov.

President Bush will host the 30th G8 Summit at Sea Island, Georgia on June 8-10, 2004. The United States assumed the Presidency of the G8 from France at the beginning of 2004. President Bush, Chairman of the 2004 G8 Summit, is looking forward to the opportunity to meet with the G8 Leaders in the informal and relaxed setting of Sea Island, Georgia.

The G8 Summit brings together the Leaders of the world's major industrial democracies: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The European Union also attends the G8 Summit, represented by the President of the European Commission and the Leader of the country holding the Presidency of the European Council.

At previous Summits, Leaders have discussed a wide range of international economic, political, and security issues. The G8 began with a 1975 Summit in France of six countries ( France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States). Canada joined the group at the San Juan Summit of 1976, and the European Community began participation at the London Summit of 1977. Starting with the 1994 Naples Summit, Russia attended the political sessions and at the 1998 Birmingham Summit, Russia began participating in all sessions.

The Presidency of the G8, and responsibility of hosting the G8 Summit, rotates each year. Italy hosted the G8 Summit in Genoa in 2001, Canada hosted in Kananaskis in 2002, and France hosted in Evian in 2003. The United Kingdom will host the G8 Summit in 2005 and Russia will host in 2006. Sea Island is located on the southern portion of the Georgia coastline, 80 miles from Savannah, Georgia. Previously, the United States hosted G8 Summits in Dorado Beach, Puerto Rico (1976), Williamsburg, Virginia (1983), Houston, Texas (1990) and Denver, Colorado (1997).

I thought the same thing, but obviously the French are very proud of it!

I'm sorry to hear you have a miserable summer cold. Take care of yourself so you heal quickly. I had an extreme allergic reaction to something I ate and it laid me very low, made me very weak, with a migraine as part of the reaction.

Oh, dear. I've become allergic to shellfish in the last few years and it's made me horribly sick twice before I figured out what was going on and left me with my only migraines afterwards.

Drink lots of water and I hope you feel better soon, Gretchen.

Thanks for the reminder about lots of water. I've been trying to force myself to drink more (I usually drink at least 8 of 8 oz's a day) but when you feel so punk it's harder. I think I'll sign off now and go quaff some more.

My daughter is also sick. Sore throat mostly, but she's been down all weekend, hardly eating anything. Trying to push fluids.....I'm afraid she will have to call in sick her second week at work, but she is genuinely sick. May have to take her to the doctor tomorrow.

She must be so upset, prairie. I know just starting a new job that she liked it will make her mad to have to call in sick. But better that than getting sicker and making others sick possibly.

The way she's been today I seriously doubt she'd be able to physically do the job. And I hope she'll be well enough on Tuesday. The exchanges used to be closed the day of a Presidential funeral. Unsure if that will still be the case, but she may be having a very light pay-week. Prairie

She and I have the same symptoms it seems. Sore throat, no energy, no appetite...I'm cold and it's 90 degrees here. Hah!

She'd best stay home and rest; they will understand. You think the exchange will be closed Friday for the funeral? I'll be watching it, that's for sure. Hope she's better in a few days although the people I've talked to who have this said it lasts about a week - I'm on day 3.

The exchanges might be closed Friday. We'll have to see, in the past they have been.

Oh dear, well I can believe you about the symptoms lasting about a week, based on the way she's been today. At least her dad can call her boss (he knows him) and vouch that she's not slacking off. Not great to have this happen just getting started.

Hope I don't get it!! :^)

I had a cold/allergies/sinus problems, something awful for a week a few weeks ago. Very unusual for me. Hope you're feeling better! Are you taking your Vit. C?

***I'll bet our President laid down some strong words to the French president today. ***

I hope he did! Do you think he told him to quit kissing his wife on her hand? :-)

***President Bush's comments about President Reagan could have been said by someone else about President Bush:

The confidence that comes with conviction
The strength that comes with character
The grace that comes with humility
The humor that comes with wisdom***

I thought that, too. Maybe RR's death will help people to remember what a great man he was, and how blessed we are to have a President with similar values in the WH, right now.

Must be something in the air. Yes - I had Mr. Peach go get me some chewable Vitamin C the other day and I'm drinking juice and resting. Thanks, homemom and glad you're feeling better!

Thanks for the correction. It was totally uncalled for, expecially since Tony Snow used to be a White House speech writer, if I recall that correctly. LOL! The mind is really going!
