"He really took a downslide today," the insider told Finke Friday evening. "Doctors are at the house. Things aren't good." At the start of the day, several news organizations chased down a rumor that the ex-president had died, but it wasn't true... Family members gathered at the Reagan's Bel Air home late Friday... Developing...

The last great president (no offense President Bush) has passed into God's waiting arms. May he be blessed in his eternal reward, and may his family know God's love and peace in their time of sorrow.

It is kind of fitting that he would die on what will more than likely be the last real remembrance of D-Day.

Amen.

Reagan was the greatest president of the 20th century because of the ideals he represented.

His fundamental belief system was similar to that of our Founding Fathers: that gov't should be limited as it is the servant of the people, and that protecting individual Freedom is the primary focus of gov't.

His beliefs really weren't all that unique in "fly-over" country, but they were in Washington. For the first time in decades, Americans had "one of us" as President.

Reagan's tax cuts, military buildup, and the moral clarity with which he addressed both domestic and foreign issues led to the collapse of the Soviet Union and the reinvigoration of the American economy.

Rest in peace, Mr. President.

(sigh.) Reagan has died, and I feel so has a part of my childhood. One of the fondest memories of my chilhood was watching Reagan's speeches on television with my parents. I will never forget the swell of pride in my country I felt when he spoke, and I will never forget how much my parents loved the man for rescuing us from the despair of the 1970s.

BTW, I just saw some old footage of Ronnie and Nancy being escorted to the podium at a black-tie event. Their escort at the dinner? None other than MS Gov. Haley Barbour.

I think we should all be proud that MS is now governed by a man who was one of Reagan's most fervent supporters and friends. I think some of Reagan's greatness has rubbed off on Haley because he is turning out to be a fantastic governor.

Oh yes, bourbon, you're one of what
they're calling "Reagan babies" ---
yougsters born or raised during his
presidency who are niow Republicans.
Darn it, I sometimes forget how YOUNG you are!

Isn't that so true.
Haley is so much like him
and they were so very close.
We are, indeed, fortunate to
have Haley Barbour as our governor.

This is such a sad day.
If you see Haley speaking about
President Reagan's passing,
please ping us.

A smart journalist (if there are any left?) would be running to his phone trying to track down Barbour for an interview right now. I'll let you know if I see anything.

That's right, because Haley was
CLOSE to President Reagan.
In fact, I have read that Haley
was his favorite person to talk
to and swap jokes with on AFOne flights.

RR had a love affair with his wife to be envied...

He had a love affair with the USA that is monumental...

Life and death are so hard... we have faith. ... but we also are human...

I really admire Nancy...

when one becomes the PONTUS they become more than who they are individually. They now below to history & the people. They WILL have a state funeral & they will have the (yukky) attendance of former PONTUS. Nancy may wish for more private etc but she is a very smart lady & does understand the big picture & the place her husband holds in history & she will no doubt be warm & filled with the good wishes & the love that "we the people" profoundly show to him & his memory.
