Reagan's Condition Worsening

Hollywood sources tell LA Weekly columnist Nikki Finke that former President Ronald Reagan's medical condition has suddenly worsened. "He really took a downslide today," the insider told Finke Friday evening. "Doctors are at the house. Things aren't good." At the start of the day, several news organizations chased down a rumor that the ex-president had died, but it wasn't true... Family members gathered at the Reagan's Bel Air home late Friday... Developing...

Don't politicize the funeral, I agree. However, Reagan is the very inspiration for the political views of many in my generation (similar to a previous poster, I am 37). I will, indeed, work to win one for the Gipper in November, as I did in November 2000. The legacy of a positive and assertive United States is the greatest tribute Reagan can receive. The "City on a Hill" lives on.

The self-loathing America of Clinton and Kerry is antithetical to the legacy of Reagan. It must be defeated.

DUers are claiming that Bush is going to kill him just at the right time for a polls bump...

Gee, W must be one powerful dude according to the DUers. Everything's his fault.

What a bunch of dispicable swine they are over there at DU.

Not really, it's a friendly newsroom ;-); the only negativity was people who didn't want it to happen on a Friday evening when the paper was done and everyone was leaving for the weekend -- the worst possible time for a huge story to break.

But that's just silly selfish nonsense that doesn't belong on a thread honoring the Gipper. Like all of us, I will be truly heartbroken if and when Reagan passes.

Remember Rush saying 43 might be as great as x40...

Bush will assume the mantel of Reagan's leadership legacy. Very very very bad for all democrats. If Ronald Reagan has coat tails one more time, it will kill off the democrat party.

If anything the DUmies should be begging soros to pay for more doctors ...

Win one for the Gipper.

I think he'd be praying for this much needed victory.

Godspeed, President Reagan. We love you.

his mind will be whole again and he will be free!

That IS a lovely thought. Prayers for the family, this long wait has been terribly difficult, I'm sure.

I hope a station rebroadcasts his last speech from the oval office. It was beautiful and I missed it live.

They are truly a sick, sick community. I would almost like to see them wiped out somehow.

Love the name. You have covered all the bases.

If, and when, it happens... May he go gently into that good night.

Blessings to the President and his family.

He simply said "He made us all feel safe".

I was 14 when he was elected ... but sharp enuff to know he was the right man for that time.

Instinctively, I despised what our country had become ... as a child, I watched images from Vietnam, and the anti-US hippies, and though I couldn't articulate why, I loathed the latter.

1980 was as key to the survival of this nation as 1776 or 1863 ...

Mega dittos. I was at school when Challenger exploded in 1986, and I remember his eloquent address to the nation.

May he also "slip the surly bonds of this earth, to touch the face of God".

"I think it is worth pointing out that while Ronald Reagan was leading the free world to victory in the cold war, the naysayers were saying the same stuff they are saying today."

How right you are and I remember it well. He was inspiring in so many ways, both in what he said AND what he did. He has been so missed. It is ashame he wasn't healthier, longer, after leaving office. Our debt of gratitude to Ronald Reagan is endless.

It would be nice if we could leave Bush, Clinton, and Kerry off of this. The man is near death. I don't think this is the thread to conduct political campaigns.

I have no reason to doubt Drudge's report; and certainly we all know that we'll soon lose President Reagan, and certainly we all wish him a gentle passing; and to Nancy and the family such comfort as can be possible; but have any other news sources reported this? Fox, CNN, anyone?

Reagan was so much more than a breath of fresh air: The man was a blood transfusion for the Republic. Reagan showed us that America was still America, still a "Shining City on a Hill." Reagan made it possible to dream again that America's best years are still ahead of us. God Bless Ronald Reagan and his family.

AMEN to that...

"He probably doesn't even know that he is in the world. I feel so sorry for his family and friends. It must be so painful to watch him. God Bless the Reagan family and all their friends."

I am in a similar situation with my father. He is a WW2 Vet but, no longer remembers anything. He doesn't know me, yet listens to me, and we try to keep him physically active.

The day he passes is the time he will regain his mental faculty. It may seem harsh but, it is his only hope...

If the family has convened, that should be easily verifiable.
