Hollywood sources tell LA Weekly columnist Nikki Finke that former President Ronald Reagan's medical condition has suddenly worsened. "He really took a downslide today," the insider told Finke Friday evening. "Doctors are at the house. Things aren't good." At the start of the day, several news organizations chased down a rumor that the ex-president had died, but it wasn't true... Family members gathered at the Reagan's Bel Air home late Friday... Developing...
President Reagan is my thoughts and prayers this day and iam so very sad at the thought of losing one of the greats. I voted for President Reagen,it was my first Presidental election and I was very excited to pull the lever for him.
Prayers for Ronald Reagan and his family.
Captain Ronald Reagan
Thank you for your wonderful prayer for President Reagan and his family.
Msnbc playing a clip now from RR's speak at Normandy in 1984.
Nancy will speak at the GOP convention..and the funeral, well, I ahte to sound crass, but politics ain't beanbag,a nd the whacko fringe of the dem party is gonna attack Reagan's memory, which just may drive a lot of the Reagan Democrats back to the GOP side...
That is a great picture of the Greatest President of recent years.
God bless him and his family.
Believe me, he will not suffer but the ones left behind will. I know from experience. May God Bless President Reagan, his family, and this country. He will be sorely missed by everyone.
He gets a job as a radio sports announcer, catches the eye of a Hollywood scout and becomes a movie star during the golden age of Hollywood.
For most, that would have been an extraordinary life if it stopped right there. But, as his career wanes, and Reagan starts to become a has-been, he gets a new career as a television host. Not a bad way to wind up your career. But the sponsor of that program offers, General Electric, gives Reagan the chance to give little promotional speeches to local Rotaries and Kiwanis groups. Most Hollywood actors would have been insulted by the offer, but Reagan seizes the opportunity to hone his public speaking.
Once again, Reagan finds himself in the right place and the right time. Political 'scouts' hear his speeches and consider him as a potential opponent against Pat Brown for governor of California. The pundits figured that this Holly wood actor with little political experience would be no match for the popular Brown. The pundits were wrong.
He becomes a successful governor. He then sets his sites on the Presidency. Again, the pundits believe that a hard core conservative could not become president. After an unsuccessfull attempt to win the nomination in 1976, he takes another shot at it in 1980. This time the punditry says that he is becoming too old to be president. Reagan however, wins the nation over with his wit and his charm (not to mention his ideas).
Literally seconds after being sworn in, the long Iranian hostage crisis ends. Then, just a couple of months into his presidency, Reagan is shot with a near-fatal chest wound. Characteristically, Reagan makes a joke as they wheel him into the operating room. "I hope the doctor is a Republican" he says.
Reagan recovers, but the economy worsens. His advisors urge him to change his economic policies. Isolated, Reagan maintains the courage of his convictions and stays the course of his tax cuts. In time, the economy booms.
Simultaneously, he keeps the pressure on the Soviet Union by ramping up the arms race an proposing 'Star Wars'. The Soviets know that they cannot keep up. In Iceland, Gorbachev proposes cutting nuclear arsenals. Reagan could have left Iceland with a major victory, perhaps even winning praise in the American media. Again Reagan sticks to his guns. His vision is longer range. Within a just a few years, the Soviet Union collapses. Ronald Reagan wins the Cold War without firing a shot in anger.
He does this all with grace and humility. Then, at the twilight of his life, the man is given the horrible news that he has a disease that will rob him of the memory of his accomplishments. Instead of wallowing in self-pity, Reagan remains optimistic about America, and thankful for his opportunities.
If you wrote a movie about a life like that, no one would think it would be believable. Larger-than-life is the only way to describe it. I thank Ronald Reagan for being a hero in time when heros had all but disappeared.
WHOA local news reporting that LAPD is going close down hood on where Reagan crib is at when news come down about Ronnie death
News media don't f**** with LAPD
I was young, stupid, and liberal when Reagan was in the White House. I did not appreciate him then. The passage of time has proved that I was very wrong. I'm glad I've matured enough to recognize that.
Too many replies to read them all, but your first post touches on one of my thoughts: When RR passes from the pain of this world and into the peace of the next, there will be nastiness that spews from the Left - They can't help themselves. I hope that bile will opent the eyes of the fence sitters and help GWB win one for the Gipper.
GodSpeed Ronald Reagan
So many on this thread have said Reagan was the first President they voted for. The same goes for me. I voted by absentee ballot in my freshman year at Clemson.
It gives you some perspective of the influence Reagan had on the conservative movement. His legacy will live on, even as his life ends (as all must).
Me, too. I was fed up with having to wait in long lines to get what little gasoline was available. He brought back a love of country which was sorely missing in Carter's presidency.
I think that is a wonderful idea! Your idea has my vote my friend. Thank you for suggesting it.
I want to see specials of remembrance on Ronald Reagan. A joint session of Congress to honor his memory. President Bush, please declare a national day of mourning and a federal holiday (for this year only) to honor his passing. Clinton did it for Nixon when he passed. That's the precedent for doing the same thing to honor Ronald Reagan.
CBS has already filmed the liberals version, now someone needs to do the real one.
Bump.
english please?
Yes they do. I had an aunt who was in a coma for about 10 years. She could not feed herself so my cousin would go to the nursing home and feed her 3 times a day. I do not understand how she could eat but she did. I still miss her.
Bump.
