Hollywood sources tell LA Weekly columnist Nikki Finke that former President Ronald Reagan's medical condition has suddenly worsened. "He really took a downslide today," the insider told Finke Friday evening. "Doctors are at the house. Things aren't good." At the start of the day, several news organizations chased down a rumor that the ex-president had died, but it wasn't true... Family members gathered at the Reagan's Bel Air home late Friday... Developing...

There's a special chapter in the DSM IV that is devoted just to DU.
I feel so blessed that I was able to be so close to President Reagan and have our paths cross, even though I never actually met him. I was there the night he won his first presidential election, just a few feet away as he spoke. And I had the great honor to make him a salad, a few years later, with my bare hands, and the Secret Servicemen and dogs just behind me. I also was in his suite hours before he arrived and saw where he would lay his head, and, yes, a real RED TELEPHONE. (I worked at his hotel when he was Pres and I was a student.)
And our family shares some names with his, as if we were named after them, and I am proud of that, too, when people notice.

Millions of us feel the same way about this amazing man.
As a teenage Republican leader working for the Reagan campaign of '80, I was fortunate to meet him during the two visits he made to El Paso, Texas (he was Pres-elect the second time he visited).
His kindess to the average person was what impacted me the most. One of the Reagan advance team invited me onto Air Force 2 (Carter had authorized its use by President-Elect Reagan) for a quick meet and greet with Reagan as thanks for helping during the prep week before the visit. Reagan then spent nearly ten minutes of his incredibly precious time taking a wide-eyed 17-year-old boy on a tour of the plane, politely introducing me to people like Ed Meese and reporter Sam Donaldson.
I obviously couldn't have voted for him at the time, had nothing to offer him in the way of donations, or powerful connections, etc. And yet he treated me as if I was the most important person to his campaign, when the truth was that I was a glorified envelope-licker-coffee-getter. It was an amazing, life-altering experience for a little nobody like myself.
There are thousands upon thousands of others whom will tell similar tales about the man. It was who he was. No matter their station in life, Reagan treated people with respect, personal warmth and generous kindness.
Forgive this overly long rambling. What I'm really trying to say is that I love him too.
