Mr. RR just came into the house in tears. He was lowering our flag to half staff. And that started my tears all over again.

May God give President Reagan the peaceful rest he so richly deserves.

Maybe I can shed some historical light that may make it easier to weigh the material in the post.

The book Tales of the Arabian Nights is the story of a ruler, Shahriar, who had a habit of marrying a woman for one night then losing interest and divorcing her. Shaharazad fell in love with Shahriar and decided she would keep his interest by telling him a different story each night. So from bedtime until dawn, she would tell him a story, each night making sure to leave things with a sort of cliff hanger. This went on for 1001 nights, and at the end Shahriar was in love with Shaharazad. The book retells the 1001 stories.

It has nothing to do with Knights (as in Knights of the Round Table) as it is set in the middle east, not in feudal Europe.

Tales of the Arabian Nights has nothing to do with the Protocols of the Elders of Zion.

Tales from the Arabian Nights (Alf Lail wa Laila) goes back to around 850 AD (the earlier handwritten copy that I am aware of - obviously it goes back farther as a work of oral tradition) and is a masterpiece of classical Arabic literature. The tale of Aladin and the forty thieves is from this work of literature. So is the Little Mermaid - Arousa Bahour - the bride of the sea. In some ways it is similar to Chaucer's work, Canterbury Tales, but hundreds of years earlier.

Protocols of the Elders of Zion dates from the late 19th century, a thousand years later, and purports to be the minutes of a secret meeting of Jewish religious leaders. It has been debunked many times as an antisemitic forgery.

I've read both. There is no connection between the two.

The anti-semites pull out Protocols whenever they want to trash Jews. Saudi TV made a miniseries for Ramadan on this book. It's one of Al Qaeda's favorites.

That's interesting. May I ask, is your office in the D.C. or N.Y. area, or another "target" area? Does your line of work put you in contact with gov. agencies or law enforcement? Just curious, trying to connect the dots. Thanks for your post.

I worked with the Chicago advance team on President Reagan's 1980 campaign.
My respect for him was instantaneous.

At the time, he would often say:

*****"Do what's right...because it's right."*****

It's such a simple quote, but tells you everything you ever needed to know about this great man.

Flag is flying and I'll be putting candles on the front stoop tonight.

Here is the website for the Royal Navy. I couldn't find any current deployment news (understandable) but a refit of Illustrious is complete.

I posted this over at the other thread......but bears repeating.

A very sad day. Rest in peace President Reagan. You have slipped the surly bonds of earth' to `touch the face of God.'"

"The crew of the space shuttle Challenger honored us by the manner in which they lived their lives. We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them, this morning, as they prepared for the journey and waved goodbye and `slipped the surly bonds of earth' to `touch the face of God.'" _ After shuttle disaster, Jan. 28, 1986.'

I just got back from my drill weekend and found out President Reagan is dead. I feel like someone dropped a ton of bricks on my heads.

He was the President to some, but to me he will always be the Commander in Chief I served under during the last phases of the Cold War. We who served under him loved him dearly. He was almost a part of the family to us.

I know he will be welcomed in Heaven as one of the greats. Millions live in freedom now because of him.

I wish him Godspeed, fair winds and following seas.

And if we watch the sky closely, we will notice that one of the stars that has been there 'waiting' for President Reagan to come home, will suddenly start shining more brightly.

Now we can all share his shining efforts for the world.

Judge OKs Islamic role-playing in classroom

A federal judge says a Contra Costa County school was merely teaching seventh-graders about Islam, not indoctrinating them, in role-playing sessions of a history class that called for students to adopt Muslim names and recite language from prayers.

In a ruling announced Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Phyllis Hamilton dismissed a suit by two Christian students and their parents who claimed the use of role-playing at Excelsior School in Byron during the 2001-02 school year amounted to an unconstitutional endorsement of Islam.

During the course at the middle school, teacher Brooke Carlin, using an instructional guide, told her students that they would adopt roles as Muslims for three weeks. She said she stressed that the exercise was only a role- playing game to teach them what Muslims believe.

She encouraged them to use Muslim names, recited prayers in class, required students to recite a line from a prayer and made them give up something for a day, such as television or candy, to simulate fasting during Ramadan. On the final exam, students were asked for a critique of elements of Muslim culture.

That was all within constitutional bounds, Hamilton said, because the purpose was educational, not religious, and students engaged in no actual religious exercises or demonstrated "any devotional or religious intent.''

She noted that the state requires all seventh-grade world history courses to include a unit on Muslim history, culture and religion.

An attorney for the students, Chase and Samantha Eklund, and their parents, Jonas and Tiffany Eklund, said Thursday he was astonished by Hamilton's ruling and would seek his clients' permission to appeal.

"This is a religious indoctrination where all they talked about was the Islamic faith for three weeks,'' said Richard Thompson, president and chief counsel of the Thomas More Law Center in Ann Arbor, Mich. "It shows a double standard, one for the Christians and one for the other religions.''

Tom Meyer, superintendent of the Byron Union School District, said the ruling left teachers free to be creative in classes about religion. "It would be a terrible shame if our teachers were restricted to using methods that put students to sleep,'' he said

Re: Venezuela
I can understand why they have a vessel there. My household is Venezuelan/American, so we are watching this situation closely. The signatures for the recall of the president (Chavez) have been approved, and it is looking like his days are numbered. He AGAIN is grumbling that there may have been foul play, and it's clear that he's cornered. He has already threatened to cut the oil supply off to the US. He is not going to take any of this well, and I'm sure he has a plan with Castro. There are huge numbers of Cubans in Venezuela, and the number of Arab muslims have surged as well (I believe some are strategically placed in Immigration!!)
In any case, I have missed the Russian connection, and the threat from F.G. Can you send links to that?
