I would suggest laughing, that's what I am doing. We can fight terrorists but how do you fight a comet. Besides, there are so many amateur and professional astronomers that I don't think they could keep such a thing secret. Sorry it took so long to reply back JG. Been a busy morning and I had to run out and get updated maps from the USGS.

As for what direction to head in a terror event, I really cannot answer that as I don't know the land up there. Do you have any friends that camp? I'd speak with them. Maybe just ask if there are any nice places to camp, then get some maps.

Keep in mind that traveling in the back country over rugged terrain can slow your progress significantly. Really rugged and you may only travel 1/4 mile per hour. Over flat ground most people walk about 3-4 mph IIRC.

Really wish I could provide better advice. Are there any other TM'ers who can help out? Please chime in.

DC. There is some funny things occurring between Dollar and Gold. Gold at $387 (Huge drop from previous days) and US dollar has also gone down, not up against gold (no reflection of gold like it usually does) USDollar at $88.97.

Well, it's good exercise, I suppose. Ranks up there with knak's blonde/blue eyed weirdo, and my tunnels. :) Keeps us busy and well informed.

WHen I get some time I'm going to search out the State with the very best tunnels/caves for living. :) I feel it's the least I can do. :) Based on my rudimentary research, so far, I'd suggest: Georgia, N.C., Co., Az (old mines) N.M.

What do you make of all the Muslim Rants?

You know, I try to reserve most of my thoughts. Simply because I easily fall into the traps of believing things mean more than they do. The way this war has been fought by the enemy, extremely methodically, is hard for most of us to even completely comprehend. I try not to put more into a single piece of information than I should, but rather I add it to the pile of the yet to be constructed 500,000 piece puzzle.

That said, I believe a discernable pattern has become more than evident in the recent months/years.

In many ways, I am troubled by what has happened since we went on the offensive following 9/11. I hear constant reports that AQ is about to fail, yet I see ideologically similar groups popping up all across the globe. Each of these groups are breeding powerful Imams who preach hate and want to see the US destroyed so that they may have their piece of the pie in the new Islamic world they wish to create. This is what concerns me, much more than anything in the short term.

I do fear that AQ themselves, have eyes on America again. Since 9/11 they have ingeniously attacked our allies as well as other countries they deem disloyal to their cause. These attacks have shown that we do not have a handle on them yet and that we may be quite far from that (at least outside the homeland – homeland security has been wonderful IMO). The current rhetoric coming from them is, in my opinion, more and more directed at the US and Bush in particular (which tends to point to something major pre-election). It does appear that their cycle of terror is about to rotate back to our side of the globe.
