Elk is my favorite. Elk liver is wonderful, no gall bladder so the liver doesn't have that bile flavor. Antelope, at least around here tastes a bit too sagey, that's what they graze on. Venison is good if treated properly. Wild turkey doesn't have the bright white breast meat that domestic turkey has, but is still good, if kept moist while cooking.
The absolute best is buffalo, and no cholesterol.

I am amazed at the eastern hunters that come here, shoot a deer, throw it in the back of their pick-ups, drive two days under hot sun, mis-treat the meat, and then say it tastes lousy.

We may all need these lessons at some point.

Tnis is FAR off topic, but something I've been meaning to bring up.

Do we have any information about where the Clintons will be in the coming days/weeks? If anyone is "aware" of impending terror attacks and where NOT to be, certainly it will be Hillary.

I just can't see her staying in Chappaqua NY (Sp.) or in the vicinity of DC if there is the slightest hint of trouble. I can't even see her staying in the U.S.

Any ideas?

Me too. I've met hunters that will drop a deer in the morning and not dress it out until the evening. Then they wonder why it tastes 'gamey'. The animal must be dressed out while it is still warm. Also, A_D's rule #1 of hunting: never shoot a running deer - they're pumped full of adrenaline and lactic acid, makes for really lousy tasting meat.

And your right RR, buffalo is the best of the best. Wish we had them out east.

the name escapes me, but it is the group of people who hold
the re-enactments of every thing from "Black Powder Rondavoos" to living in the 8th century.

there are about a 1,000 groups at Yahoo groups and I sometimes read a good group on survival, another on cosmetics from the beginning and herbs and crafts.

There is a site that will tell you how to make shoes, arrowheads, a canoe from a tree and anything that they have found from the old days.

But after the last couple days my mind is frozen, so you will have to google for them.

That'll work just fine. All the right steps. Good job in finding this. I'd advise everyone (especially folks who've never hunted) to save a copy of this. You might just need it some day and some day may be closer than anyone (except TM'ers) think.

Be warned, deer are dumb animals (as is any other animal) until you hunt them. LOL! The key to be silent and still for long periods of time in very cold weather. It takes the right clothing. I've been hunting for almost 10 years and I still learn things from other hunters.

LetItRing, that's a very good question and I really don't have a specific answer. I guess that's why I hang out here on the TM so much. It could be any number of things.

I'm on the watch for a 'cluster' of events happening closely together. We've been watching for a series of violent events. To be honest, the first suicide bombing would send me into action because I'd expect follow up events of even greater violence.

A oil refinery goes up. A few minutes later, tanker truck accident shuts down a strategic choke point on a nearby highway blocking emergency personnel. A few more minutes goes by and a plane crashes into an apartment building.

I really wish I had a better answer but I don’t. Just like everyone knew it was an attack on 9/11/01, we’ll know when it’s time to bug out. AQ’s attacks are designed to look like attacks, not accidents. When they make their move, we’ll all know. I just hope we’ll have enough lead time to get away. Thus my emphasis on being prepared.

I don't think I'll make a move when and if the Osama tape is released. There've been too many of those. Had I left for every OBL tape, I'd be keeping the roads hot. I'll just see and stay plugged in here. Another reason I think this thread is so important.
