Security reels under virus load, says survey
Karen Dearne
MAY 25, 2004

BUSINESSES are struggling to keep ahead of the large volume of attacks on IT systems and the ever-changing threats, the 2004 Australian Computer Crime and Security Survey shows.

Organisations are doing more to protect their networks, but about half were hit by attacks in the past year that harmed the confidentiality, integrity or availability of systems.

Electronic attacks and other computer crime cost public and private organisations an average $116,000 each — up 20 per cent on the previous year.

Respondents reported a total of $15.9 million in financial losses.

A whopping 88 per cent of attacks involved viruses, worms or Trojans, representing 45 per cent of total financial losses.

I having been waiting to see this in print...hhhhmmmmmmm

Officials from state and county health and human services agencies investigated the outbreak and determined that someone attending the conference brought it to Great Falls.

Loney said all of the people handling food -- a common way for it to spread -- were virus-free. Local hotel employees also were questioned and cleared.

"We looked at the food and the meals they ate," she said. "We did a thorough investigation and it had nothing to do with the facility."

Officials contacted 67 of the 130 people attending the conference. They came from throughout Montana, Idaho, Oregon and Washington.

Loney said the virus was contained to the conference and no outbreaks have been reported in Cascade County since.

#1 I reposted that. Calpernia had nothing to do with it.

#2 I reposted it because I believe it is a vital piece of information for my FRiends on that thread. I recall a post about a møøselimb kid looking out his class room window on 9/10 or so and telling his teacher that those towers (the WTC) would be gone soon. No one thought much of it then...

#3 If I were laughing at you behind your back, I wouldn't have pinged you!

HMMMMM, wellllllllll, you'd know best whether it's worth it or not.

I suppose others could chime in on the topic but I think your judgment and perspective would be top flight.
