JET DIVERTED TO INDIANAPOLIS AFTER COCKPIT SMOKE SPOTTED

The Associated Press
5/23/2004, 10:14 p.m. ET

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A regional commercial jet flying from St. Louis to Newark, N.J., was diverted to Indianapolis Sunday because smoke was spotted in the cockpit and cabin of the plane, an airport spokesman said.

The plane landed safely at Indianapolis International Airport shortly before 6 p.m. EST, and the 44 passengers and crew on board were evacuated, spokesman Dennis Rosebrough said.

No one was injured. Passengers were taken by shuttle to the airport terminal and booked on other flights to Newark.

There was no evidence of flames or fire on the plane, which was operated by Chautauqua Airlines flying for American Airlines, Rosebrough said.

Rosebrough said an electrical short circuit could have caused the smoke. The midsized jet, an Embraer, is still in Indianapolis, where Chautauqua has a maintenance hanger, he said.

We had the sirens going off last night, spent about an hour in the basement until we got the all clear.

Have many friends in Gurnee who have to evacuate today. I'm heading over there in a bit to help sandbag and taking a cooler full of sandwiches and drinks.

After the storm last night I went outside and one cloud formation looked just like a mushroom cloud.

Stay safe, more storms on the way.

Coast Guard asking for your help to fight terrorism

(5/23/04 - HOUSTON) — The Coast Guard has a message for all of you enjoying the fun and the sun while on the waters. Keep a look out.

The Coast Guard is asking people enjoying boating in the Gulf of Mexico to be on the lookout for terrorists. The Coast Guard is asking boaters to report suspicious activity around chemical plants, the Ship Channel, and even bridges.

Maritime officers say they don't have the manpower to patrol all of our area's sensitive facilities, so they are asking boaters to help.

Next weekend, the weekend before Memorial Day, is traditionally the start of heavy boat traffic.

Good morning everyone. Just starting to catch up on the thread. Had a great weekend at the cabin. Millions of cicadas. Noisy critters.

Thanks JM for your additions to the survival list. I've copied them in. I'll need to reorganize it, but those are some really good additions. As always, experience is the best teacher.

JP, I'll post the list at the beginning of each new thread.

Matty and Meowtrix sounds like two very lucky kitties!! They found you!! There are too many animals in this world that need help, it's a shame.

I will nominate "Jack" for dog mascot duties. I rescued him last year, had to drive all the way to Santa Monica to get him. He acted as though he's been abused all his life, scared of everything and would duck and fall down if you approached him too fast. Now after 10 months he's a normal happy dog....he goes out on COPS patrol with me, so he is qualified. (well, maybe neither of us is qualified for the patrol thing, I'm a girly girl and he's small soooo...but we have real guards too!)

Note: in California 'we' all have to live behind gates and fences. In the last 3 weeks alone there have been 4 gas station armed robberies by our southern border jumpers and this is not that big of a place.

AND, Jack puts up with all my time on the computer, although he now will bark at me once every 5 minutes or so when he thinks it's time to quit and go for a walk. ;-)

HQ INTEL-ALERT Terrorism Advisory
Issued: 24 May 2004; 0500 EDT
Contact: Douglas J. Hagmann
Contact: Steve Quayle

ADVISORY CONTENT:

(1) PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION & PRIVATE TOURS: Individuals using public transportation such as subways, trains and buses should exercise additional diligence and be alert to their surroundings. Caution should be exercised when gathered in confined areas associated with public transportation hubs such as train and bus stations. Individuals on tour buses are also urged to remain vigilant as these conveyances have been specifically named as potential targets of kidnapping in recent issues of the terrorist training manual Camp al Battar.

(2) BRIDGES, TUNNELS, LANDMARKS: When traveling by car, individuals are urged to be aware on approach to bridges and tunnels throughout the US, looking for any stopped trucks, including but not limited to tankers and closed cargo trucks at the base of bridges or tunnels. People are urged to identify, in advance if possible, outlets or alternate routes to escape from or avoid a potentially dangerous event. Landmarks have been included in this advisory as they have been peripherally referenced in recent forum postings and communications.

(3) MALLS, SHOPPING CENTERS: People are urged to be aware of any unattended bags, backpacks, briefcases or other unattended objects in all populated and congested areas. Consistent with the official US government warning recently issued, everyone should be on the lookout for anyone who appears out of place within the surroundings, especially those wearing bulky clothing that could potentially conceal explosive devices and/or chemical containers.

Although some of this information has been previously broadcast in the media by official government sources, please note the inclusion of additional specific information in this advisory. Investigative analysts are finding increased instructional references to the construction and use of improvised explosive devices and the use of chemical weapons in confined areas. Law enforcement officers and security professionals should note that these instructions also include methods of detection avoidance when transporting chemicals and explosives into secured areas. Additional specific references have been made to kidnapping and hostage-taking of groups of people for political and ideological purposes.

The upcoming US holiday – Memorial Day weekend – is noted but is not considered as the primary factor in the issuance of this advisory. Nonetheless, people are urged to increase their awareness while in attendance at any large gathering of people, especially in enclosed or confined areas during the celebration of this US holiday. This advisory is not intended to be geographically specific as no references to any definite locations were found.

Background information, pertinent details relative to this advisory and other privately obtained informational and intelligence matters can be found at the following websites: www.SteveQuayle.com and www.HomelandSecurityUS.com.

DISSEMINATION OF CONTENT: Recipients of this advisory are free to copy and disseminate this advisory in any form as deemed appropriate, although no alterations of its content are permitted. To avoid any confusion or erroneous association with any official government agency, the source of this non-governmental advisory - the HQ INTEL-ALERT - MUST be cited.

Just got off the phone with my business partner.

He uses the Day Care facities at the Fort Monmouth Community Center in NJ.

His child, along with 1/3 of the entire class, are home today with Foot and Mouth Disease!

Nothing in the news or Health Department warnings yet!

That's near my neck of the woods. Does that child care facility serve primarily military families?

Also during WWII the US had a plan to use pigeons in the war effort. BF Skinner trained pigeons to peck at discs to direct either rockets or drones.
