Pilot Killed In Midair Plane Crash

Small Planes Collided Near Olympia

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Federal investigators are trying to determine why two small planes collided over a rural area south of Olympia.
One pilot died and the other was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia following the crash Sunday evening.

Federal Aviation Administration officials say the two northbound Cessnas collided about 800 feet over the ground shortly after 8:30 p.m. They went down about a quarter of a mile apart southeast of Tenino and about 10 miles south of Olympia.

The injured pilot told witnesses he never saw the other plane.

Waterbury-WTNH, May 17, 2004 Updated 3:18 PM) _ The BJ's Wholesale Club in Waterbury was evacuated this afternoon because of a suspicious suitcase.

According to police, off-duty police sergeant from Bridgeport was shopping in the store. When he returned to his SUV he found a suspicious looking suitcase leaning against his driver-side door.

Police were called and a bomb-sniffing dog "got a hit," indicated there were traces of nitrate on the suitcase.

It's not clear yet if there is indeed an explosive in the bag.

The State Police Bomb Squad is on the scene with their containment trailer to take away the suitcase and safely detonate it.

Waterbury Police and State Police have cordoned off the area. Traffic has been re-routed and area residents have been evacuated.

The store is located on Reidville Drive.

Another suspicious suitcase....

Palm Beach Blvd. Closed Over Suspicious Package (Fla.)

A suspicious suitcase that Lee County sheriff’s officers thought might contain a bomb was left next to a public telephone at a Hess gas station Monday on Palm Beach Boulevard. The resulting investigation backed up traffic for more than three hours.

The contents of the suitcase: A pair of blue jeans. The road remained closed at 3:08 p.m. as authorities checked out a suspicious van across the street from the gas station.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at about 10:02 a.m., said sheriff’s spokesman Larry King. By noon, the Southwest Florida Regional Bomb Squad, Lee deputies and officers with the Fort Myers Police Department were at the scene diverting traffic and clearing out nearby buildings and restaurants of employees and patrons.

Monica Jackson, an employee at the Big Lots store across the street from Hess, said deputies came into her shop and told everyone to clear out. “At first they just told us to get back, then they told us to get out of the store,” said Jackson who was walking home on the sidewalk wearing her brown work smock. “They told us they found a device. I’m going home to pray for my son.” Her son, Chaz Powell, 10, is a student at Orange River Elementary School, located behind the Hess station.

Officials released a report at about 2:30 p.m. Monday that the children at the school were safe. The bomb scare slowed eastbound traffic to a halt on Palm Beach Boulevard for more than two miles as deputies directed vehicles onto Alameda Avenue. Traffic coming west from Interstate 75 also was diverted.

 8) Given everything that has happened since 9/11 in terms of building additional bunkers (not to mention the pre-9/11 underground tunnels at new large facilities like the Denver Airport), an Apocalypse plan for leadership succession, the more restrictive covenants of the Patriot Act....without pointing fingers and making accusations, if you knew [a catastrophic] event was coming and that the only cover you could create for the proper preparation for [this] event was to create a 9/11 like disaster, would the exectution of a few thousand to save our way of life be something which you could rationally consider?  Consider some of the real anomalies of 9/11, the failures of that day, and ask yourself if this scenario fits

9) President Bush is scheduled to meet with the Pope in early June...why?  In an election year this is almost unheard of.

10) The largest number of scientists and astronomers ever have all gathered in the southern hemisphere and

11) NASA is missing about half a trillion dollars as noted by the GAO about six months ago.  I suppose that could be for the underfunded military or our non-replenishing shuttle fleet.

 12)  Consider the missions over the past three years to study comets..their composition, their chemical structure...the people coming forward to discuss neat things like 'altering comet and asteroid paths'

A red helicopter flying over Interstate 10 near Queen Creek Road over the weekend looked very much like it was carrying a missile, witnesses said.

So when an off-duty Phoenix police sergeant spotted the bird, he called dispatch, which in turn contacted the Department of Homeland Security, forestry officials, the highway patrol and the military to ask if anyone knew what was happening, said Bill Price, police communications supervisor.

- No one did.

So Phoenix Police Department helicopter Air 15 flew out to investigate the mystery chopper.

"We wanted to check it out," Price said. "It sounded too suspicious."

The unidentified helicopter landed at Chandler's Memorial Airfield and police eventually learned that the pilot works for a private company that is testing a magnetic sonar device for the Navy. The Navy uses similar technology to search for mines and other objects.

"Why they would be doing magnetic sonar testing in the desert, I don't know," Price said. The Navy was unavailable for comment, but tests are to continue through Wednesday, Price said.

Roane Co. Hwy. 95 to Reopen (TN)- Radioactive Material Spill

Highway 95 in Roane County will be fully functional again for your Monday morning commute. Department of Energy leaders said all the radioactive material spilled on the roadway Friday has been removed.

Contractor Bechtel Jacobs and DOE still have not said why it took nearly 4 hours after the radioactive leak to notify the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency of the problem, and nearly 5 hours to shut down the highway.

Poisoned Alcohol Kills Nine People (China)

Nine people have died from drinking alcohol, laced with the poisonous chemical formaldehyde, in Guangzhou, capital city of southern Guangdong Province.

Another 33 people have become violently ill after drinking the poisoned liquor. Local sources said four people were critically ill and three others were in a serious condition in hospital. The first two deaths were reported last Tuesday. On Wednesday, two more similar deaths were found in Baiyun District of the city.

The two men were identified as Wang Funian and Hou Shangjian, from Taihe Town. Both reported symptoms of poisoning on Monday afternoon after drinking liquor brought from the same stall.

Wrecked Tanker, Explosion Shut Down I-85 For 6 Hours

NORLINA, N.C. -- A tanker truck crashed and caught fire on Interstate 85 early Sunday, closing the northbound lanes near the Virginia border for about six hours and sending a fireball into the sky above Warren County.

The tanker was carrying 8,100 gallons of a combination of gasoline and diesel, which sparked the explosion, officials said.

"It was 30 feet in the air, and it was spectacular," David Askew, of Warren County Emergency Management, said of the fire.
