Bush Asks Worried Republicans to 'Keep the Faith'

May 20, 1:20 PM (ET)
By Thomas Ferraro

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush asked fellow Republicans on Capitol Hill on Thursday to "keep the faith" as he sought to ease their jitters about Iraq and his lowest approval ratings ever.

At a closed-door meeting described by some as a pep rally, Bush vowed to "stay the course" and do what is right for America, prompting lawmakers to shower him with ovations, Republicans said afterward. A top Democrat fired back by calling Bush incompetent.

"He asked us to keep the faith," Rep. Deborah Pryce of Ohio, a member of the Republican leadership, said as she emerged from the meeting. "We're all behind him."

At a news conference, House of Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat, said, "I believe the president's leadership in the actions taken in Iraq demonstrate he is incompetent in terms of knowledge, judgment and experience."

Bush's approval ratings have slipped to the mid-to-low 40 percent range, the lowest of his presidency. No recent president has been re-elected with such numbers this close to the November elections.

"The color code alert level has moved from yellow to orange," a senior Republican aide said. "There isn't panic, but there is considerable concern." (SNIP)

Well, on rereading the article perhaps I was a bit hasty. Now I believe the senior aide was referring to to Bush's re-election situation.

One more.

"So did you hear about the new world map?...94% of the map is taken up, naturally, by the continental US. Los Angeles, for example, appears as a gigantic “outie” navel on the swollen belly of America, a representation befitting its enormous global cultural influence."

No, they don't have that archived article available at their site anymore. And the Web Archive Service only goes back to 2001.

I'll try to look for another source later. I'm off for now.

Woman Pricked At Baseball Game Dies

DENVER -- The case of a woman who died about two weeks after she was pricked while leaving a baseball game at Coors Field has been turned over to a homicide detective, police said.

Nancy Short, 69, of Centennial died Friday. She was pricked with an unknown object April 28, police spokeswoman Virginia Lopez said.

"Whether it was intentional or unintentional, she did receive an injury which led to an infection that led to her death," Lopez said.

Short had told police that she was walking through a crowd while she was leaving a Colorado Rockies game when she felt a "pinch" on her left buttock. Minutes later, she discovered she was bleeding.

Regarding the change from yellow to orange, I think this is involving the panic within the Republican party towards the election and Iraq, not the US Threat level.

I read another story saying he read a russian hacker website that described how to broadcast high pitched tones on the control frequencies of the trunked system, thereby the Motorola controller would lose control of all the channels......Normally you would need a radio that was programmed as part of the system to get on the air at all...and if you had a lost one and started messing around, the system could lock out that radio. Apparently there is a work around. Of course, if this guy could research it, I am sure others could to.

Can you imagine the next 9/11 inquisition...instead of families screaming about inoperable radios that couldnt talk to each other.....you have communications brought down by hackers as a second part of the attack. With the internet you could probably do that remotely too.

This is the second time this week that a tanker has crashed on I-70 in the Kansas City metro area. On the radio, it was reported that five or six vehicles in addition to the tanker were on fire. The police said that the tanker carried corrosive material that could cause severe respiratory distress or death in this article:

This article has a driver's statement that makes the actual accident sound suspicious:

snip, "I looked in my rearview mirror and saw trucks and automobiles going every which way. Then, all of a sudden, one struck me in the rear end. It was a mess, that's what it was," Welch said.

Did you know that June 7 is exactly 999 days after September 11? Therefore June 8 is 1000 days after, and June 8 is also the transit of Venus. But does anyone else know what happened on this date in the year 570?

Check out this report from Drudge:
FBI BULLETIN: LOOKOUT FOR SUICIDE BOMBERS INSIDE THE U.S. Thu May 20 2004 19:09:51 ET

Warns Officials To Look for People Wearing Bulky Jackets on Warm Days; Smell of Chemicals; Trailing Wires from Jackets Bombers May Disguise Selves As Pregnant Women

New York - The FBI has disseminated to 18,000 law enforcement agencies an intelligence bulletin advising police officials to be on the lookout for suicide bombers attempting to strike inside the US, TIME's Elaine Shannon reports today on TIME.com. The lightly classsified bulletin, headlined "Possible suicide bomber indicators," and circulated earlier today (May 20) via the FBO's secure Law Enforcement Online (LEO) Intranet, warns local badge-carriers to look for obvious signs of trouble - people wearing heavy, bulky jackets on warm days, smelling of chemicals, trailing wires from their jackets - and, as well, more subtle ones, such as tightly clenched fists. Someone who never shows his palms could be gripping a detonator rigged to go off when a button is released. "If you shoot him, you're still not safe because his hands relax and the bomb explodes," says a counter-terrorism official, TIME reports.

The FBI bulletin also notes that suicide bombers may disguise themselves in stolen military, police or firefighter's garb or as pregnant women, TIME reports.

I am thinking that Bush is in deep trouble over the price of Gas. Normal Americans are very upset over it. And these people have no idea of the threat we face from Terroism. Strangely I don't hear Bush saying much about Gas. He needs to give the matter a lot of attention for his own good.
