Boycott Brad Pitt In the movie "Troy"!
May 14, 2004 | John Arcari (JLAGray Fox)

Posted on 05/14/2004 5:55:00 AM PDT by JLAGRAYFOX

Please boycott the movie "Troy: that releases today. Brad Pitt, a rabid Bush hater and support of "Traitor" Democrat John Kerry needs to take a beating in this movie. If the movie does not do well at the box office Pitt is toast as an actor!

The Plutarchs just got back from the movie. Mr. & Mrs. and two boys, aged 13 & 14. We all liked the movie, and all gave it a B+. The $200 million is on the screen, and is worth seeing a representation of the ancient world. A lot of good acting, however, none of it by Brad Pitt, who mostly preens.

But... but... Nobody boycotted the Bush-bashing Viggo Mortensen while Lord of the Rings ran its course! Besides, I hear Orlando Bloom kills TWO giant elephant mumak mammoths in Troy!

Mancow said the only line in the movie is when the king was told the queen left with the Trojans.

Arf! Arf! Arf!

The reviews that I've read all say that Eric Bana, whom I adore, stole the show.

He had a pretty big part as Delta Sergeant "Hoot" in Black Hawk Down.

Want to know why very rich people like taxes? It's easy - it eliminates the competition.

Excellent treatise!

For years in Australia, Eric Bana was one of the funniest commedians on TV. He's definately got a ton of talent.

Good news this morning! BoxOfficeMoJo.com is reporting a $16.9 Saturday gross for the movie "Troy". That number is essentially the same as Friday's number. Most films go up by about 35% from Friday to Saturday revenues. "Troy" was essentially flat with no uptick. This usually means the movie has bombed, which it has. MoJo predicted weekend revenues of $58M for "Troy". Looks like about $44-46M will be the total for it's first weekend. The movie with Brad Pitt as the headliner is tanking badly.

I was gonna wait for the DVD. I'm a bit of a mythos buff, so I already know how it ends. ;-)

To say that they took some liberties is to put it mildly.

Paris lives. Menelaus dies. Achilles is in the Trojan Horse.

I'll have to admit that since I love Greek Mythology, I'll have to see it.

This thread is pretty lengthy, so I don't know if someone has already said this, but everything I've read suggests that mythology was pretty much soaked out of the film. Peterson was apparently too embarrassed by the source material to actually use it, so characters who cling to their gods are ridiculed.

BTW, Peterson has said he saw George Bush in Agamemnon. "He, too, went to war under false pretenses." There was another thread asking people to boycott the film because of that. LOL Want a third reason? Brian Cox--the guy playing Agamemnon--hates Bush. I boycotted X-Men 2 because of comments he made around the time of that movie's opening.

Perhaps I have this wrong: but if Mr. Kerry's policies about tax and stuff basically boil down to a redistribution of wealth, and "taxing the rich", why is it that so many of the liberal "(d)eletes" in Hollywood, who make so much bank, are falling all over him to get elected?

One theory is that they are "embarrassed" by the instant wealth. They don't think they did anything to earn it, and feel they should give back. I don't know about all of that. I think a lot of them are just ignorant about money matters and say, "Hey, I got plenty! Take whatever I don't need! I'll still be rich!" That's all well and good, but the wealthy who actually create additional wealth in this country by creating jobs are limited in their ability to do so with punitive taxation.

Not that I begrudge an actor his fortune. Whether he thinks he earned it or not, he is a huge part of the reason the movie attracted moviegoers across the country (and, eventually, in other countries). I guess that's what they don't get. They aren't paid millions because they are on a set 12 hours a day for three months. A lot of other people who aren't paid nearly that are on the set all of that time and even after the actors go home for the night. No, they are paid for getting people in the seats. Usually, unless a movie bombs big time like the Alamo did (and, hopefully Troy will), it's a small price for the studio to pay.

Now, because of this the wife no longer wants to see it and I'm telling her, "Darn, Honey...I really wanted to see that with you."

LOL! But, don't play it too hard, or she's liable to say, "Well, if you want to see it that bad, I'll overlook their politics."

Fortunately I don't have to worry about that from my wife.

She had smelled some J-Lo perfume and mentioned that it smelled good. I bought her a bottle for her birthday two years ago...and it wasn't cheap.

She opened that present, kissed me, thanked me, then poured it down the toilet. It's made in france.

I read labels now.

This "boycott" nonsense is really quite silly, and makes no monetary difference whatsoever. Can't you people just seperate inane movie stars' ignorant rantings from their performances? Pitt was terrific in "Fight Club", and Pitt, Clooney and Roberts were outstanding in "Ocean's Eleven", which they will reprise in a sequel. So you are all going to skip these fine films because they repeat some Chomsky quote they didn't even comprehend? As a cinephile I have found that every good movie has some leftist creep in it. If you abide by these boycott lists, there is perhaps 1-2 films a year you could see. Very silly and pointless, imho.

I see one or two films a year in a good year. Believe me, it don't hurt none. I don't boycott because of the actors' politics per se. That just makes it all the easier. No, I boycott because all of Hollywood is consumed by liberalism, right on down to the writers. Just because they put out junk doesn't mean I'm going to see it.

But, I despise "Fight Club" and regard it as anti-capitalistic bilge with a tinge of pro-terrorist sentiment going on (and a huge cop-out on that score; "Oh, we made sure to get everyone out of the buildings!" Riiiiiight). I don't like Fincher, can't stand anything he's done.

Now, "Ocean's Eleven" is sort of different. While I despise the actors in that film to the point where I couldn't look at them even if they were in something I would otherwise want to see, this was more a case of simply having no interest in it. Oh, and I don't like Soderbergh, either. So there! :)

BTW, this is shaping up to be a banner year for me at the movies. I've seen "Return of the King," "Miracle," and "The Passion of the Christ." I may see "The Alamo" if it doesn't leave the theater before I get around to it, and I'll see "The Village" and "Spider-Man 2."

See? Now, that's a case of ignoring an actor's politics. I never thought I'd even see a William Hurt movie, much less in the theater. And, Kirsten Dunst has made a few anti-Bush statements here and there. Of course, I suspect she doesn't really have a clue.

I heard a rumor that Jackman is gay.

Now, I don't follow Hollywood gossip, but I understand that Jackman's a happily married man who is devoted to his wife. I hope that's true. Maybe he's a decent guy. Maybe he'll remain that way even in Hollywood.

It's funny, but a lot of the guys who end up being conservative only work in Hollywood. Rick Schroeder lives with his family on a ranch out-of-state, and I believe Jimmy Stewart lived in another part of California. I don't know if he's conservative, but Marty Milner also chose not to live in Hollywood. He seems like a pretty down-to-earth guy.

In fact, when Jennifer was bashing Bush, Pitt told her to "knock it off" and arranged a hastily scheduled conference where he said he supports the war and Bush's policies.

That's it, I'm seeing "Troy" now. ;)

I bet the guy who stirs the pot down at the waste treatment plant was a little confused. "Is J-Lo visiting today?"
