Please boycott the movie "Troy: that releases today. Brad Pitt, a rabid Bush hater and support of "Traitor" Democrat John Kerry needs to take a beating in this movie. If the movie does not do well at the box office Pitt is toast as an actor!
But once seen, I would agree with many others that it does merit some acclaim as the best since Gladiator.
Go see it you will probably agree. It is pure entertainment not a dull moment and some spectacular sword fighting.
Or stick your head in the sand and hold your breath until you're blue in the face. Nobody cares.
BUMP
good question....one ive puzzled over as well. my take is that these particular elitists, the hollyweirdos, are really no longer motivated by profit (hard for us working stiffs to believe, i know)- theyre already as rich as croseus- so they hang out with each other at cocktail parties and other "benefits" to discuss their latest enlightened "cause" (from saving bloviating zeppelins- oops, sorry...."whales" to....well, you get the picture), and how superior they are to the rest of the hoi polloi because they feeeeeeeeel the whale's, snail darter's, ozone's, criminal's, or "revolutionary's" pain. they're "one with the struggle" (to enlighten the rest of us, to fight "oppression" & "injustice", you understand).
thus, it's all about power not money. no?(...one may say) then you tell ME why there's no "ten commandments"-caliber movies being made. (mel gibson - alone! - aside) where is today's john wayne? jimmy stewart? "boy's town"? & many others too numerous to mention here.....
the profit motive has assuredly taken a back seat to the lust for power
It hasn't gotten rave reviews that I've seen.
Box Office Mojo gives it a B-, but says Eric Bana (Hector) stole the show. Another review says Orlando Bloom should've been given more face time.
Sounds like the "star" was only Trojan eye candy.
(Look for it in your pharmacy and ask your doctor if it's right for you.)
Wow, I didn't know the ancient Greeks invented fibreglass!
:-)
No problem.
From the trailers its mostly Hollywood, not history. Id spend the entire time picking it apart - and probably be kicked out of the theater.
I heard a rumor that Jackman is gay.
Local paper and WSJ reviews both labeled this one a boring turkey. Not going to watch...
I'm with you 100% on that one. Besides, I'm sick of Tom Cruise trying to smile his way through a movie instead of actually acting in them.
So don't see it, that's your perrogative as is mine to see it.
The Illiad isn't exactly historical, either.
The Illiad isn't exactly historical, either.
The Illiad of Homer was accurate enough to guide Schliemann. From descriptions of the fighting to descriptions of the landscape and fortifications it seems pretty historical. The only thing that may not be is the interference of the gods.
Who's Brad Pitt?
The reviews that I've read all say that Eric Bana, whom I adore, stole the show. That alone is worth it for me to see it.
Nah, that's just because he played Peter Allen in a Broadway play. He's 100%, all man- and happily married to an older woman!
Huh? I can't remember a single thing he has said.
This "boycott" nonsense is really quite silly, and makes no monetary difference whatsoever. Can't you people just seperate inane movie stars' ignorant rantings from their performances? Pitt was terrific in "Fight Club", and Pitt, Clooney and Roberts were outstanding in "Ocean's Eleven", which they will reprise in a sequel. So you are all going to skip these fine films because they repeat some Chomsky quote they didn't even comprehend? As a cinephile I have found that every good movie has some leftist creep in it. If you abide by these boycott lists, there is perhaps 1-2 films a year you could see. Very silly and pointless, imho.
You're hearing them too?
Damned CIA - they're everywhere.
He just finished a run on Broadway playing a follies type show...
..his part as a gay man who kisses the guy.
Personally, I can't see Mel or Sean ever playing that kind of role.
I don't have a problem with actors kissing other actors of the same sex. Maybe my gaydar is broke, but I just can't see Hugh as being gay. Besides, he played Peter Allen, who swang both ways. Hugh's always wanted to do Broadway, so...
