Prometheus Methods Tower Services Inc., the business that cost Nick Berg his life in Iraq, has no records with the Pennsylvania Department of State.
The company that specialized in building communications towers never registered with the Pennsylvania Corporation Bureau, said Brian McDonald, spokesman for the state department.
McDonald conducted a search of the bureaus online list of registered businesses, but found no matches.
The same search done by a Daily Local News reporter produced the same results -- several businesses contained the word "Prometheus" in their names. Only one is located in West Chester, and it is not related to Bergs business.
Companies are not legally required to register with the state, but McDonald explained it is usually the first step an owner takes.
"Youd be very foolish not to register your business with the department," he said. "It is nearly impossible to exist without doing it."
Registering allows an owner to set up his businesss tax structure. It also establishes how the business is run, for example, whether or not it is for-profit or nonprofit.
"It is basically the infrastructure by which businesses are set up in the commonwealth," McDonald said.
McDonald added it is possible the business could be listed in the bureaus records under a different name.
Searching the statewide yellow pages online found two company names containing the word "Prometheus" in Philadelphia. One is an Internet consulting business.
An employee at the second one, which is called Prometheus Radio Project, said it was not affiliated with the business owned by the local man slain in Iraq by members of al-Qaida.
Officials at the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue and the Internal Revenue Service said state and federal laws prohibited their agencies from providing any records they had of Prometheus Methods Tower Services -- even whether the company had ever filed a return.
"Any information that we get or is contained on a tax return I cant release," said Steve Kniley, press secretary for the state revenue department. "It is considered confidential under tax law."
Tax records become public information only if a lien is filed against a business. According to Kniley, there are no liens against Bergs company.
Bill Cressman, spokesman at the IRSs Philadelphia office, said the only companies with public tax records are nonprofit corporations.
At least one person claims he can confirm Prometheus existence.
Jay Shur, who works at the radio station WCHE 1520 AM in West Chester, said on Wednesday he was in the process of hiring Berg to build a communications tower for the station when news of his death came out.
The station was awaiting approval of plans from both the borough and an environmental agency before construction could begin, according to Shur.
"Theres a lot of paperwork to go through, and the area we were looking at was a marsh- land so we had to get clearance," he said."When I do get the OK, Ill have to look for another contractor."
Michael Berg briefly spoke about Prometheus during a press conference Thursday morning outside his home.
"My son was not over there to make money," Michael Berg said. "My sons business, which was very profitable before he went to Iraq ..I will make good on anything the company owes anybody, but its pretty much going to be defunct."
It is unclear how many employees Prometheus had. Michael Berg spoke of a "foreman" during the press conference. However, Nick Berg traveled to Iraq alone.

Yep, file this one with Vince Foster for "unsolved."
I see many of the same factors at work now. The FBI does NOT want to go back into clues which were missed about the pre-9-11 era
This isn't a court trial, it's an informal investigation, trying to find more clues, or debunk all of the many extraordinary *coincidences* surrounding the life and travels of Nick Berg..
If the dice keep landing on 7, every time, I don't need and X-ray to know they're loaded dice.
This statement sounds like the FBI spreading kitty litter to cover up a Richard Jewell type affair. With all e-mail addresses, I have had, I could have an unknown connection to the Unabomber for all I know. This e-mail appears to a thin connection at best and more a " look at all the work, we did" by the FBI.
Try as I might --- I can't help but thinking Travis is onto something --- imagine you're an Arab --- an Iraqi --- or Al Queda looking for a way to get your own independent radio station built in Iraq --- and you're looking for a way around governments --- certainly Pete Tridish's operation could have an appeal. Imagine you're an unemployed radio technician/engineer in Philadelphia --- and Radio Mutiny (out of Philadelphia) advertises for help in going to way-out places to give radio access to the people -- and you're not tied down, have a sense of adventure, want to travel to farout places anyhow, somewhat believe in the cause, know people in Iraq.....
Prometheus, running his own compassionate conservative peace corps.
Here's an odd tidbit. We know that Soros is a benefactor of the Prometheus Radio Project through OSI, and that he is also a major benefactor (along with Theresa Hines) of the Tides Foundation.
I ran across this translation of Berg's executioners' statement, "translated by the National Virtual Translation Center" (a U.S. government agency created as a result the Patriot Act to facilitate intel translations), and "made available on the Internet by the Tides Foundation World Report."
I can't find any other google info on the "Tides Foundation World Report," and there's no link from the Tides Foundation website.
I wonder why the Tides Foundation is interested in disseminating this particular translation, and what is their connection, if any, to NVTC?

Thanks, Travis.
The person who called last night is such a conspiracy nut that I generally find myself moving in a position opposite his just on general principle. LOL
You have me confused with someone else.
In the Soros/Tides Foundation/Kerry Heinz/IndyMedia funding links to Prometheus 1 & 2.
Just dropped in ... why is this important? ???
Read it from #1 if you have the time.
Has anyone discussed Berg's beard in the video?
Many Muslims believe it is a mandate from God to keep one.
Also, in the pictures of Berg from the U.S. he does not have a beard.
Ghana must really be an interesting place. I've only known of 3 instances in my life where I've bumped into anything associated with Ghana.
In one instance, was a rumor of a fellow serviceman who was departing with an airline ticket to the place as he was leaving serivce work, which I happened to see as I dropped him off at the airport and it had another person's name on it,..about 15 years ago.
Another instance about 12 years ago, an associate disappeared from work for over a month, but called in periodically claiming to make sales calls out of state, but never being available from where he indicated he was calling from, yet his computers turned out to have been used equipment from Ghana.
Then there were the Xerox copies sent me in the mail supposedly from a highly placed source in an African nation with millions of funds in cash who simply sought an incredibly honest fellow like myself to open up a bank account here with seed money so he could deposit the funds under my name for safekeeping and when the government stabilized I would give them back the funds and they would let me keep 10%,...providing I flew to Ghana to make the necessary arrangements. Of course, being the wimp I am, I never venttured there to recieve the promisory millions in finder's fee.
The news report of Nick Berg having ventured to Ghana to simply make clay bricks and stabilized soil construction is an interesting story Especially when he reads to have had the very similar sociopathic mentality as the two other coincidental acquaintences I've had who had linkages to the area. Then again maybe he got the same Xerox chain letter and took the bait.
The funny thing is that I just simply assumed there probably was a spook boot camp there or something. Of course if the good guys don't have a spook boot camp there, they probably need to look into it, because it really reads as though somebody has been training clandestine service folks there for quite a while.
The networks being considered are formed as an n-party game, where each party is a group of members with mutiple interests and members are known to switch groups based upon the combinatoric priority of interests prevailing at any one time.
The groups however remain remarkably stable. Some groups lead as the interests of the members mature toward other group levels.
Conflicts exist between some groups even when they hold remarkably similar interests.
For example, Nick may have been a bit-twiddler, infatuated with rock climbing and elusive independent behavior, a witness to his father's perspective of higher powers that be. He in turn may have exhibited an impatience with college, in part because during his formative high school years, even college graduates at the top of their class could find no work other than flipping burgers.
Combine the athletic requirements of the radio tower job with a bit of adventure, and may have been allured by clandestine operations having grown up around a liberal conspiracy theorist who actually might have pursued some of those conspiracies. Just some conjecture.
