Prometheus Methods Tower Services Inc., the business that cost Nick Berg his life in Iraq, has no records with the Pennsylvania Department of State.
The company that specialized in building communications towers never registered with the Pennsylvania Corporation Bureau, said Brian McDonald, spokesman for the state department.
McDonald conducted a search of the bureaus online list of registered businesses, but found no matches.
The same search done by a Daily Local News reporter produced the same results -- several businesses contained the word "Prometheus" in their names. Only one is located in West Chester, and it is not related to Bergs business.
Companies are not legally required to register with the state, but McDonald explained it is usually the first step an owner takes.
"Youd be very foolish not to register your business with the department," he said. "It is nearly impossible to exist without doing it."
Registering allows an owner to set up his businesss tax structure. It also establishes how the business is run, for example, whether or not it is for-profit or nonprofit.
"It is basically the infrastructure by which businesses are set up in the commonwealth," McDonald said.
McDonald added it is possible the business could be listed in the bureaus records under a different name.
Searching the statewide yellow pages online found two company names containing the word "Prometheus" in Philadelphia. One is an Internet consulting business.
An employee at the second one, which is called Prometheus Radio Project, said it was not affiliated with the business owned by the local man slain in Iraq by members of al-Qaida.
Officials at the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue and the Internal Revenue Service said state and federal laws prohibited their agencies from providing any records they had of Prometheus Methods Tower Services -- even whether the company had ever filed a return.
"Any information that we get or is contained on a tax return I cant release," said Steve Kniley, press secretary for the state revenue department. "It is considered confidential under tax law."
Tax records become public information only if a lien is filed against a business. According to Kniley, there are no liens against Bergs company.
Bill Cressman, spokesman at the IRSs Philadelphia office, said the only companies with public tax records are nonprofit corporations.
At least one person claims he can confirm Prometheus existence.
Jay Shur, who works at the radio station WCHE 1520 AM in West Chester, said on Wednesday he was in the process of hiring Berg to build a communications tower for the station when news of his death came out.
The station was awaiting approval of plans from both the borough and an environmental agency before construction could begin, according to Shur.
"Theres a lot of paperwork to go through, and the area we were looking at was a marsh- land so we had to get clearance," he said."When I do get the OK, Ill have to look for another contractor."
Michael Berg briefly spoke about Prometheus during a press conference Thursday morning outside his home.
"My son was not over there to make money," Michael Berg said. "My sons business, which was very profitable before he went to Iraq ..I will make good on anything the company owes anybody, but its pretty much going to be defunct."
It is unclear how many employees Prometheus had. Michael Berg spoke of a "foreman" during the press conference. However, Nick Berg traveled to Iraq alone.

The computer link is just too weird to be ignored.
This guy's family and travel history are just too weird to be passed by as inconsequential.
I have to say that I'm going to regret having taken off the tin foil I had on that first day...

Here are some more pictures of Pete. If you click on the images, larger versions of the images appear.

In these pictures, Pete looks like he is under thirty years old. Pete sort of looks like Nick Berg, but I wouldn't bet on it.
Thanks for the link! I found it but all I can remember is an apartment building right after O'Connell's which is across from the fire station. Now I am curious -- the article said a mosque behind gates but I know this building is right out in the open and right next to it start the university apartments but not the ones where Moussaoui stayed. I am going to drive over shortly and take a look! It says there are about 400 members but 400 people could not fit in any building in that area as far as I know except O'Connell's Bar and Grill.
Bump.
Interesting point. I am just through your post on this thread, but I don't think tower owners would hire an uninsured company. At a minimum they would want to know that he had WC or Health Coverage.
... the end ...
You have come up with the mother of all conspiracy outlines.
Strangely, it fits with much of what we know. As I've said before, the one thing that has to be debunked is that this guy was honestly, and even privately, "proBush"...
Yeah... the first clue was the Birkenstocks... didn't even have to open his mouth. ;-)
I now rename them BIRKENDORKS.
I agree with you about the computer link -- I am going to get some more information. Most of the foreign students from the Middle East are here for the Petroleum Engineering or Geology courses.
Berg studied civil engineering and construction science -- science labs are all at Sarkey's Energy Center.
From research I have done this afternooon, it looks like the Middle Eastern community are all together -- they go the mosque (have no idea where it is but going to go check), eat together, and then go to the Huffman which is a fitness center or used to go the Huffman. Most the people there since it is remodeled are from the Greek Community and the dorms -- at least when my daughter or son is there. My son said before it was remodeled, the Middle East group was always there -- lately he hasn't noticed a group standing around and talking. If I remember right most of them live in the Kreightly Apartments on campus or off campus at apartments on Lindsey.
Just searched on super computers for OU and look what I found -- students have access to the super computers:

UNDER THE banner of `Connecting the Caribbean for Christ`, Trans WorldRadio, in partnership with 20 Caribbean radio stations, is offering some of the region`s best-known pastors, Bible teachers along with gospel music through the Caribbean Gospel Network (CGN).
(snip)
gospel music programme
In addition to preaching and teaching, Stacy Rose, a Jamahican, hosts a two-hour weekly Caribbean gospel music programme entitled Island Praise that is heard in the Caribbean as well as the U.S., United Kingdom, and eight countries in Africa.
Scott Hollinger, the English language director for Trans World Radio and Robert Bernhardt, of the Caribbean Baptist Fellowship, were involved in establishing CGN. But now, say both men, "The time has come for more Caribbean leadership."
There is currently no U.S. programming except for the 30-minute drama Unshackled in the first hour of late night programming with Trevor Smith. All 13 programmes, except Unshackled, are produced by Caribbean persons for a Caribbean audience.
Bernhardt believes radio is the most intimate of the mass media and Caribbean people learn very well through the ear gate. He said, "the CGN is an excellent means of sharing the love of Christ throughout the region, while, at the same time, encouraging Caribbean churches to be more involved in world-wide missions."
oeutstanding benefits
"I think one of the more outstanding benefits would be a significant amount of programming that emphasises the theme of `moving from mission field to mission force`. There is a movement in the Caribbean, encouraged by the Evangelical Association of the Caribbean, to encourage missionaries from the Caribbean to serve in other parts of the world. One radio programme especially, produced by Youth With A Mission, entitled Go Caribbean, airs on CGN five days a week and encourages t his trend," he said.
Another aspect of how CGN is benefiting churches in the region is the realisation that the Caribbean has some excellent, world class Bible teachers. For example, one of the Caribbean`s finest Christian communicators, may be speaking at a Keswick Convention in some other island, but now he/she is on CGN where thousands can hear the broadcast on a dozen islands.
Hollinger added that he would like to see more of the region`s top Christian communicators becoming part ofi the Caribbean Gospel Network.
Editor`s Note: Potential programme producers may contact Trevor Smith, Caribbean Gospel Network, 3400 Raleigh Street, Hollywood, Florida 33021. E-mail: tsmith@twr.org. My information to the effect that he portrayed himself as such was an interview with someone who worked with. I caught that by happenstance this morning on the Mike Savage show. The co-worker believed it, and stated he would wear it even while working atop a radio tower.
.
This just came across the AP wire:
The 2002 investigation determined that an e-mail address once used by Berg apparently was obtained by the Moussaoui acquaintances while Berg was briefly an engineering student at the University of Oklahoma in 1999.
Moussaoui came to the United States in February 2001 and enrolled at a flight school in Norman, Okla., also the home of the university. The Moroccan-born French citizen left that flight school later in 2001 to attend one in Minnesota, where he was arrested on an immigration violation shortly before the Sept. 11 attacks.
Ashcroft told reporters there is no evidence that Berg knew Moussaoui or any of Moussaoui's contacts in Oklahoma.
What I just posted at #393 is not what the local media has been saying. Local people has been saying Berg hung out with the Arab community here in Norman.
Not sure I trust DOJ or an FBI investigation here! Same people that said OKC was domestic terrorism -- no one else involved -- yeah right!
This just gets weirder and weirder!
I'm going to have to leave soon, but want to say that I appreciate your "research" - whether it proves simply to be tinfoil or reality, it has cried out to be done.
There are so many things that fit strangely - I hope you caught #260 and #297 here. I still think that his leaving Cornell without a degree (where he could well have met some "interesting" characters to be sure), doing "charity work" in far away places (though certainly I know other Cornellians who have done similar), then ending up in what may be one of the hotbeds of terrorist training and recruitment in this country, managing to do "radio" work for the Republican National Convention, "loving to do strange and interesting work in far away places", a virulently antiwar Deaniac daddy who can't seem to refrain from using a son's death for political purposes, etc. ... being retained and released in Iraq just in time to be captured and beheaded ... a "jew" working in Iraq who had previously had his computer info taken by a terrorist ... man, oh, man... I can't help it...
Too many, just too many coincidences for a sane person to live with.
I've got to put that tin foil I ripped off my head (with an apology to everyone about how I had gotten carried away) ... I've got to put it back on for sure.
.
Moussaoui is Moroccan-born? Last May, Casablanca, Morocco was rocked by a series of simultaneous bombings by al-qaeda terrorists - and the majority of the MANY suspects in the March 11 Madrid train bombings are Moroccans, too.
He was Morrocan. Made friends with the Pakistani community here as well and encouraged a roommate to go to train and fight in Chechnia!
He was also wire mailed money from the money man of Bin Laden! Moussaoui belongs in prison and I hope they throw away the key.
Little ole Norman,
right in the center of the storm.
You're doing a fabulous job
providing on site information.
Thanks so much.
Yes, I am reading along,
just not posting often.
DOJ may just be showing caution... or, maybe not! lol
