the abuses were not policy, they did not even go to battalion or brigade level. This has to be a dagger in the heart of those who would force Rumsfeld's resignation.

You betcha.

Oh, Allard asks why anyone taking pictures in this facility?

Smith: Taking pictures of prisoners is against the rules, especially with personal cameras.

Smith and Taguba say these were the personal cameras of these MPs. Allard points out this had nothing to do with the handling of the prisoners. Smith and Taguba say as far as they know this was entirely these people taking pics on their own.

Now--we all know the soldiers have claimed they took them under orders. Then we started hearing that intelligence used these pictures to show other prisoners the pictures to get them to cooperate. That is false. These were purely done by these persons on their own, against the rules.

All photos (and video) were taken with private cameras? So what command level had direct responsibility for allowing individuals to take pics?

Karpinski didn't seem to have much disciplinary control over those under her command.

Not only do some of us recognize their voices, sight unseen, but in most cases, we already know what they're going to say!

"Taguba says cameras used were personal cameras of those that took the photos."

No, no, Levin is sure there is a purchase order out there for dogs, collars and cameras signed personally by Rummy. Otherwise they could never have gotten their hands on such exotic objects.

I support John Kerry’s stand: Donald Rumsfeld MUST resign immediately.

The events of the last week are a stark reminder of the stakes in this Presidential election. John Kerry’s remarks yesterday painted a striking contrast to President Bush’s evasion of responsibility:

"As president, I will not be the last to know what is going on in my command," Kerry said. "I will demand accountability for those who serve, and I will take responsibility for their actions. And I will do everything that I can in my power to repair the damage that this has caused to America, to our standing in the world, and to the ideals for which we stand.... Today, I have a message for the men and women of our armed forces. As Commander in Chief, I will honor your commitment, and I will take responsibility for the bad as well as the good."

Show George Bush and show the media that you support John Kerry’s stand: Donald Rumsfeld MUST resign immediately.

No, they did not; only those named and a few more; he said that they sent them mostly to Democrats because they would "be more sympathetic."

CSPAN 1 gets the names up better than Fox ( and other channels ) and there's less background noise. This goes for almost every speech.

According to the Washington Post the Taguba Report was leaked to NPR. Now the photos weren't leaked. Those came out through other channels.

And from what we're hearing, the report was then spun wildly away from its contents. The pictures certainly were leaked--though evidently separately.

I think it's a very important point that the cameras used to photograph the prison abuse were privately owned cameras, not military issue.

That plays havoc with the mainline defense of the 7 accused soldiers that they were following orders of contractors and interrogators.

Same for the MI General, who is also female.

WoW! I did not know this! I guess they were both to timid to venture out of the Green Zone.

It is going no higher than Karpinski, and the Senators know that, which is why they are grasping to get Gen. Sanchez or Paul Bremmer implicated. They don't want the face of a Clintonite Female General on this scandal.

It's too late, they blew it, and Karpinski is the poster-lesbian for this event.
