"I cannot for a moment believe that if they were actual combatants they wouold have been so docile as they appear to be."

To be truthful, this kind of humiliation has been used for years in both interrogations and to make prisoners more docile. Publicly stripping a person and ridicule them is a very quick way to humiliate someone.

When you consider that most of these prisoners were part of Saddam's best, and their ideals of manhood, this is probably nothing short of non-physical castration to most of them. Not only have they been humiliated, they've been humiliated by women, western women.

It really isn't that dissimilar to what we all went through in boot camp. We were all humiliated; personally and in groups. And we complied with the demands of those humiliating us.

"..Sergeant Frederick works as a civilian as a correctional officer in Virginia, neither he nor his father believes he was adequately trained by the military to handle prisoners of war..."

A 37-year old state corrections officer would certainly have the training and experience to be sadistic and turn a blind eye to abuse and even torture. Perhaps they meant the military didn't spend enough time teaching him to be humane? Too many prisons here are America's worst shame, too much dirty politics, abuse, and look-the-other-way tactics, fuel in no small part by a patchwork of liberal restrictions that give prisoners too much power and protection from accountability which they then use to subject guards to all kinds of rot and filth.

Not trying to indict all prison guards, but they certainly have more than their share of bad apples.

and will erode morale, until one of the services decides to make a full and complete example of one of them.

Next thing we will here is that these guys are "whistle blowers".

And from here on out, ALL manner of cameras should be confiscated.

Cameras are used routinely in prisons on inmates for ID documentation purposes, among other things. They are also used in the field for many useful purposes, in war and civilian environments. Keeping them in the right hands is another thing.

You know what her attorney said tonight? That she joined the Guard for "a career path, to get money for college."

No.........I'm still here;occasionally. :-)

Women do NOT belong on the front lines, anywhere near prisoners, and NO ONE should have been allowed into Iraq or Afghanistan with a camera of ANY kind!

I have wondered about this! So....this is acceptable behavior for a corrections officer??? Not adequately trained???

Funny how the Dems weren't this hacked off when Clinton spent his last 4 years in office with his pants down.

I wonder what they'd have done if there were pictures.

I'm disappointed in both the right and the left on this issue that thinks this was "bad". Who are we kidding? A woman laughing at the short comings of an enemy combatant wearing a hood while naked and she dangling a cigarette? That's "abuse"? I thought these Arabs were TOUGH and would do ANYTHING to kill the infidels.

If I knew all it took was having women smoking a cigarette to humilate them while laughing at their small peters, I'd become President on that policy alone. The hearings are garbage, the Bush White House cowing to them is garbage, etc.

I guess we are now fighting a "war on terror" with PC and rules that don't apply to the enemy. I guess Bush and the wimps in Congress are determined, yet again, to play politics with a real war and ignore the facts and the realiites.

It's over. We are on the path to destruction just like the Greeks and Romans. Our own Senate is full of worthless pieces of human scum.

Enjoy the end of the world folks.

Mr. Lawson said he sent letters to 17 members of Congress about the case earlier this year

I bet you $50 they were ALL on the Armed Services Committee, which, of course, puts the lie to their "We didn't know anything about this at all" crap!

Oh yes they can Howlin. If he leaked ANYTHING that was classified he is subject to Courts Martial assuming he is drawing a pension or other military benefit.
