ARBALA, Iraq, May 7 — American soldiers battled insurgents led by a rebel Shiite cleric on Friday, killing scores of Iraqis, as the cleric delivered a defiant, derisive sermon that dismissed President Bush's expressions of regret for the abuse of Iraqi prisoners.

"What kind of peace could come from you or your agents when you feel pleasure at torturing prisoners?" the 31-year-old cleric, Moktada al-Sadr, said to cheering supporters at his mosque in Kufa. "How are you going to control the world when you can't control...

"how many is "scores"?"

A score is 20, as in "four score and..."

A figure more to be hoped for would be "a multitude..."

Take no prisoners anymore--kill everyone.

Allah rewards martyrs?--send everyone to Allah.

No more prisoners.

I thought the question was really how many scores there were - four scores, five scores, or two?

One hopes it was a BIG score we scored.

>>how many is "scores"?

At least 40, since a score is 20. I'm hoping we got at least several score, so 60-120.

Good news. I'm so proud of these soldiers, I could burst. God bless them and keep their aim straight and their weapons working.

Surprisingly, a very fair piece of war reporting from the Times. And some decent writing, particularly the flurry of small descriptive moments from the battle.

At one point, a sniper blew away the head of an insurgent looking around the corner of an alley. A rocket-propelled grenade whistled past the faces of more than a dozen soldiers crouched against a wall ... By the time the last bullet was fired, bodies lay strewn across the roads.

This from the chubby little slug who is going around torturing and stealing from the Iraqi people, setting up prisons in which he jails people on a whim without trial.

Ah, yes. I hope the new policy now is "Take No Prisoners".

It worked in WWII.

Sadr is a chubby f**k, isn't he? He doesn't miss too many fatty lamb bits in the communal grab-with-your-hands bowl, does he?? He should fill up most of a ten power reticle.

How well does Free Republic protect the identity/anonymity of posters?

Considering Elvis has been posting here since 2002, pretty darn good.

Seriously - if you don't disclose any personal information, you have nothing to fear outside of extraordinary circumstances, such as Midget Nepalese Lesbian Maoist Cadres infiltrating JimRob's house under the guise of Girl Scouts needing a bathroom break while on a door to door Cookie drive and then photographing all the Freeper Account information that JimRob has on his wall a-la that guy from "A Beautiful Mind".

Hey, it could really happen!

HAVE OUR DETECTIVES REVEALED THE IDENTITY OF THE IRAQ TAPE LEAKER???
Do all clues lead to blot on American society Michael Moore as the man responsible for leaking Iraqi "torture" tapes to US and international media?
Several weeks ago Michael Moore bragged he had cameramen in his employ who were sending tapes everyday from Iraq via FedEx. He claimed these tapes were going to "tell the truth" about the situation in Iraq. Is it a coincidence that Moore claimed to be having Bush-related distribution problems with his upcoming treatment of the science fiction classic "Fahreinheit 451"
It fits perfectly within his publicity timeline and Moore's views and vows to bring Bush, Cheney, Rummy and administration. Finally, knowing President Bush would react with honor and compassion in a way that would hurt his conservative base by eventually apologizing for the actions of these soldiers and the Bush haters calling for the head of Secretary Rumsfeld.
Could Moore have believed it to be a win-win situation. Could this have been Moore's baby all along?

"How are you going to control the world when you can't control a few soldiers here and there?"

You don't understand. We DON'T want to control the world. We just want the world to leave us the f*** alone. We want to trade with the world, sure. It's a part of capitalism. You buy our stuff, we buy your stuff and we all get rich together. But don't try to move here, don't try to kill us, don't try to convert us. Just stay in Shitistan or Assholia or where ever you are. We don't care what you do one way or another as long as you don't mess with us. Got it? Oh, by the way, we consider building nukes, stockpiling chemical weapons, or any other weapons that you plan on using on us in the future to be "messing with us." We won't sit back and let you get away with that either (Iran, this means you).

I was saying the same thing to my coworkers. Why would a GI want to take prisoners only to have them show up on Oprah complaining about the humiliation and their low self esteem.

I have TRIED to remain humane during this conflict. After this latest prison scandal (and the way the left's attack-dog media is playing things), I have come to the conclusion that killing ANY and ALL terrorists is the only way we are going to win this WOT. Our mission should be comprised of overwhelming firepower, and relentless violence until all aggressive actions cease!!!

I believe our Country should take on the fine slogan of the MARINES serving in country today:

"No better friend, no worse enemy"!.....and we had better mean it!

If ANYONE shows hostility and aggression to our troops, KILL that sum-bich!
