I don’t believe these hang-wringers. Not for a moment. I believe that the huge majority of leftists see these reports as a chance to get the President....

Apparently many of these same leftists in the media and in congress were asleep during Waco, Ruby Ridge, Bosnia, the sale of sensitive missile and satellite technology to China, criminal perjury, obstruction of justice, Vince Foster’s murder, offenses against Kathleen Wiley and Juanita Broaddrick, Haiti, Monica-gate, Whitewater...

You have a rare talent for distilling a disorienting tornado of conflicting ideas down to the essentials.

The media could care less about immorality, they just want to "get Bush", and "get Rumsfeld". ...and to sell advertising, of course.

Having been in the Army, I can only imagine the position that those guards have been put in against their will. They are away from home and loved ones, unappreciated (thanks to the American media), and bored. They were trained for other occupations, but true to the long-standing military tradition of misusing all talent, were assigned as prision guards. Their Iraqi charges were incarcerated for killing Americans or wanting to, and who can blame these pi$$ed off twenty-somethings for wanting to get even with what life had dealt them?

The explanation for this behavior may be just as simple as a desire to do something to help their comrades in any way they could. Or it could be as simple as the behavior of a bored child seeking attention.

Mike pointed to a post the other day written by the former supervisor of some of those guards. I deleted it by mistake, but the supervisor said that two of the people who did these things should not have been promoted to positions of authority.

Rummy is a great man, and I'm glad to have him in charge of our armed forces.

I love this smart, brave, take-no-nonsense man. Rummy/Condi for President someday. It looks as if the rats just want to destroy anyone they believe might have a chance of running in the future. For ANY Republican positions.

Rummy is the best. Colin can't hold a candle to him.

The one thing I really appreciate about him is that he is a real person not a political butt boy.

I love Rummy for attempting to re-organize the bureacracy of the Pentagon. I'm sure that's why someone leaked the classified information to the media - knife in the back.

Love him for the outstanding prosecution of two wars.

Most of all, love him for making Kennedy, Levin and Clinton look like the imbiciles they are.

"[T]aking into account the limitations under which the troops are working, the crucial lack of personal character that resulted in this scandal will have severe ramifications on the war effort (the leftists among us will see to that), and on the morale of the rest of our troops. That is what troubles me far more than the mistreatment of the Iraqi prisoners."

The Big Picture is not encouraging...

If the truth be known, the AINO Democrats would have it NO other way than to have America's future combatants merely looking very pretty in their white gloves while abiding by Queensberry Rules during firefights.

Great rant. You've struck a number of targets as usual.

The Big Picture is not encouraging, is it?

As a by-product of this phony, disproportionate outrage, I expect AINO Democrats proposing that America's future combatants merely look very pretty in their white gloves while abiding by Queensberry Rules during firefights -- IF at that time they are allowed to use guns.

Why don't you have your own blog?
Your writings are so concise and insightful.
The same people that tell us we should not have absolute
values regarding sex, truth, etc, now wish to use these
values to divide us during wartime and I use that word
in the sense that our enemies use it, they have no qualms
about their feelings toward us.
It has been shown time and time again that prisoner/guard
relationships result in abuse simply from the exposure of
naked power over an individual even in guards trained to handle these situations.
The perpetrators of these crimes, and they are crimes as
stated in the various military regulations WILL be punished
and that should be all that is required aside from attempting to put in place safe guards to prevent this from
happening again.
One should perhaps try also to remember this didn't take place in middle america or someplace where in their offduty
hours these personnel where able to come in contact with
"normal" people with normal values.
Looking forward to hearing more from you.

PLEASE Secretary Rumsfeld, don't let the nattering nabobs win this time. Every time the enemies of America (democRATs) smell something they think is a "gotcha" they keep knawing at it until our good people resign. Don't do it. At some point we have to stand up to them and fight back or our country is doomed.
