The small-town girl who ended up on every channel (Lynndie England – Leash Girl)

Lynndie England loved a good storm. During tornado warnings her mother would have to drag her back inside the house. Her teachers say she wanted a career as a storm-chaser.

Now, the perfect storm has found her.

From hometown hero to the reviled woman holding the leash . . . US Reserve
soldier Lynndie England with an Iraqi prisoner in Baghdad's Abu Ghraib prison.

The petite 21-year-old army reservist from the quiet crossroads town of Fort Ashby in West Virginia is the most visible character in the controversy over the abuse of Iraqi detainees at Abu Ghraib prison. She is the thumbs-up girl, the pixie-ish, T-shirted soldier, smiling, pointing and posing for the camera with naked and humiliated inmates.

Soon after the release of the photographs, Terrie England was on the telephone with her daughter while watching television.

The irony about all this is, if those pictures were taken here in the States and put on display, they'd be considered 'art' by the left. Amazing.

And the people who kill coalition soldiers through roadside bombs, what punishment should they get?

Nine grams of lead. Cranially inserted at high speed.

as for the timing ... well, we are between the hype on Richard Clarke's book and the hype on the bill clinton book.

media needs a bush scandal filler.

and they cant talk about kerry, they start doing that and his numbers fall.

btw, dollars to donuts clinton throws in some fables about how hard he went after bin laden.

" But if a soldier is a screw-up, she is a screw-up because her leadership let her down."

She, and her "leadership" must go. This will demoralize our troops and embolden our enemies.

Their dad did it. Put it in perspective. These people were fed to dogs and plastic shredders a few years ago. Yeah, it's stupid but it doesn't rise to the level of "torture". It's hazing.

I'm hearing you say "hazing", but the pictures I'm seeing plastered all over the news and web say "sexual deviancy, homosexuality, perverts, bondage, etc."

Granted the media is blowing this up and making the Army as a whole look bad, just as they took isolated incidents during Vietnam and blew them up, but that's no excuse.

If these people are feeling bad that the pictures got out, then perhaps they should have said to themselves "if I didn't want anybody else to see this, especially my family, then perhaps I shouldn't be doing this in the first place.

Even putting my religious beliefs aside (which is near impossible for me in this case), I still find it disgraceful and conduct unbecoming. As a retired officer, I find it particularly disturbing that there seems to have been no oversight. Officers aren't expected to monitor their troops 24/7 (nor should they attempt to or be allowed), and there are times where they turn a blind eye to how things are going, as long as things get done and stay within regulations, but this was too vile and open of a thing to be ignored. If they didn't know about, then some NCOs failed somewhere.

I do have faith that the military justice system will take care of this, and those involved (upto and including their commanders) will be punished appropriatly.

"media needs a bush scandal filler."

That's a really good talking point...one I have to remember!

LOL...yeah, Clinton's already told enough fables about how hard he worked to get Binny.

What's that guys name on Mad Magazine?

Alfred E. Newman?

She reminds me of him.

I suggest when this administration or the military is done with her, she gets some good security, as I would imagine every A-rab religious nutball in this country is going to want to get even with her.

This young lady owes her excellent moral character to following and emulating the KKK education of Senator Bob Byrd.

Let me ask you this. How far are you willing to go to stop terrorists from lighting off bombs in public places that are designed to kill our troops? Obviously, I am willing to go a lot farther than coddling and accept some hazing. TERRORISTS ARE NOT ENEMY SOLDIERS. They deserve anything they get. I don't care if it does alienate france or Germany or Upeckerstan or whoever.

It's war. If my child were riding in
I have a Nephew who just returned from Iraq, and is trying to figure out how to return. I have a brother who is somewhere in Afghanistan, hopefully to return soon.
I care a great deal about anything that makes their job more difficult or dangerous. Unnecessarily irritating the entire Muslim world does just that.

Oh yeah. They really love us now. I don't see our role as making the Arabs happy. They want to kill us. Kowtowing to them won't turn them around.

" some idiot officer somewhere decided that this kind of humiliation was appropriate. It wasnt, it was abhorrent. But it was an exception not a rule"

That's right. These amatuer behavior mod/time killing sessions have no place in the US mil. The media will not point that out, because it's choice propaganda material to hit the administration with.

I can tell you one thing that won't stop terrorists - any of our troops getting their jollies forcing or watching naked men climbing on one another or simulating or engaging in homosexual sex.

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe engaging in such deviant acts will stop terrorism and help us win the war on terrorism. Maybe I'm not seeing more and more fanatics getting pissed off as the news spreads. Maybe their getting more and more pissed won't lead to more and more bombings.

If that's the way to stop terrorists, then I, personally, am not willing to go that far. I have a desire to goto Heaven (maybe you've heard of it). I'm also willing to send any islamic fanatics to what they think is heaven, using traditional methods (things like firearms, not these new-fangled methods that apparently involve deviant sexual behavior).

Lets see here...
Point #1:They really love us now
Actually there are quite a few who are happy that we are there. Love us? Probably not. Some Friends? Sure.
Point #2:making the Arabs happy
A bit of an extreme overstatement of my view. I really don't care it they are happy or not. I just don't want to make killing us a matter of principle to those who are lukewarm or friendly.
Point #3 They want to kill us
Hardly the majority - or at least not before this. Why make more enemies than we already have - with no gain in tactical or strategic position. Most just want to get it over with and US to go home. As do I.
Point #4:Kowtowing to them won't turn them around
See point #2 - hardly my position.

"The leash-bound is probably one of the "people" who shredded live innocents."

We have no idea who these people are or aren't. All we DO know are they Iraqis, they were in our hands, and they were mistreated. And really, that's all that counts in the long run - that and more significantly, what we do with screw-up dimwit Kampfenfuerher-wannabes like Ms. Lyddie.

"given how officially puritanical the Muslim culture is, given that our male soldiers have been told to steer clear of their women, how the h--- did the military let women soldiers have anything to do with male prisoners?"

Excellant question!! No one has even ASKED that before. I guess it was too politically "insensitive".
