Specter Wins 51-49 Republican Senatorial Primary: live thread
4/27/2004 | self

Posted on 04/27/2004 9:10:16 AM PDT by rudy45

My apologies if a thread already exists. I did a search on "Toomey" and found nothing.

I arrived at my polling area (suburban Philadelphia) at 6:45 am to hand out palm cards. The weather is terrific this morning, but turnout (I thought) was light (I had to leave at 9:15, but will be back).

Actually, I have a good feeling about Pat.

Once-Ler,We are getting very close to banning you.

Banning me? From what? Your knuckle scrapping loser Goldwater fan club? I never joined it. I'm a REPUBLICAN. Every vote...straight ticket.

I worked for the Republican Party of WI, and I was paid for my work. I voluteered my time for Republican candidates. I'm a conservative who understands that most people in WI don't vote for conservatives. I've donated money to FR, the Republican Party of Wisconsin, and the RNC. whadda want?

Actually, I personally would settle for nothing less than a full reversal. Any form of Roe v. Wade will prevent the individual States from making their own laws, and I find that totally unacceptable.

It's not that unlikely either. Remember the news that Roe v. Wade was -this- close to being overturned in the early 90's, save a last minute change of mind by Justice Kennedy. They didn't have the PBA and the UBVA to consider then. In fact, the UBVA is the more legally meaningful act of the two, because it's impossible to reconcile the concept that the child can be a victim with the concept that the child is disposable at the whim of the mother.

The pro-abortionists make fools of themselves when they screech that things like Republicans wanting a 24 hour waiting period, or parental notification, or stopping funding of overseas abortions were steps on a slippery slope to overturn Roe v. Wade. They were no such thing - those were conservative attempts to be REASONABLE and come to a compromise, and the libs just pissed them away. They would have had absolutely no legal impact on Roe v. Wade. The PBA and UBVA are different. They really ARE steps toward overturning Roe v. Wade. In fact, from the UBVA I would say it would be inevitable in anything other than an EXTREMELY partisan Court.

Other than "far right fringe", what else comes to mind when you think of conservatives?

You asked me about Toomey. "Conservatives" says low taxes, strong defense, and pro-life. that is why I love Dubya. He gets stuff done without pissing off moderates. the far right fringe never gets anything accomplished.

Okay, fine, but I don't see your issue with Toomey.

You list -low taxes, strong defense, and pro-life- sounds like Toomey.

What happens if Bush leaves a Supreme Court with 6 or 7 members to his replacement? The chances are that Bush will not be able to put a single nominee on the Supreme Court during the next four years, should there be a vacancy.

Remember, Spector is OLD

Let's hope he lives long enough! If he dies in the next...ummm...2-6 years IIRC Gov Ed gets to pick a rat replacement.

If it wasn't for getting W in again...I'd sit the general out and let Hoeffel get elected. Especially if Gov Ed is gonna apoint him or another rat anyway.

Of course there are many other factors to consider...control of the senate being just one.

FWIW Toomey made some fantastic statments in his concession speech. He urged his supporters to vote for Arlen and W in the fall...BUT to hold to the principles of the conservative cause...limited goverment, personal freedom, traditional values, a strong defense and defense of our sovereignty.

That's what we have to work toward, especially from the local levels up. Conservaites will end up on top, but make no mistake...it's gonna take time...maybe well into the next decade before we cleanse our government of ratz and RINOS.

Sounds like Specter. Specter voted for Estrada, the 2003 tax cut, repealing the death tax, ending the marriage penalty, ending double taxation of dividends, limiting medical malpractice lawsuits, killing the Kyoto treaty, and killing higher fuel standards for American cars. Hoeffel will vote against all of these things.

Okay, fine, but I don't see your issue with Toomey.

There are time that I assume other FReepers are as knowledgable as I am. I don't write this as a way of insulting you. I just don't know you or how cognicent of the world you are so forgive me if I come off as condiscending.

The fact is PA is a moderate state nearly evenly split. There are almost half a million more registered 'rats than Republicans in PA. It has the 3rd largest senior citizen population in the country (not usually thought of as hard right voters). PA has voted for 'rats in the last 3 presidential elections. Bush could not carry the state because he was too conservative. What in the world could make someone believe a far right fringe Toomey can win statewide election? I am sure that Bush would support Toomey if he thought Toomey had a shot of winning. Specter has been no friend of the Bush administration. As usual the far right fringe thinks they are smarter than Dubya Cheney and Rove. It must be because they did such a good job killing Reordon's chances in CA so they could get Bill Simon.

Toomey is a far right nut and will only attract likeminded far right nuts. Specter is a safe vote and ultimately the vote for majority leader is the most important vote in the Senate. You can bet that far left Hoeffel will not vote for a Republican in that seat.

Life is not about getting everything you want. It is often about making hard choices between 2 things you don't want. Like starving or hard work. Some conservatives are like little children. They choose Buchanan instead of Bush or Clinton. They see both the viable candidates as not Toomey, so they choose neither. They hide their stupidity in phrases like "I wouldn't want to win if it meant compromising my integrity" or "Yes I'm a big dumb loser but at least I stand for something while the 'rats bend me over and ram it on home." They have never, and will never get Toomey, because Toomey cannot tell 75% of the voters what he stands for and still win. It is not my decision. It is the moderate and liberal voters of PA who will decide to thwart the conservative voters. It is the voters of PA who say you can have a Senator Specter or a Senator ‘rat, but you can’t have Senator Toomey. You can only make life difficult for Bush, Cheney, and Santorum. Why would you want to do that?

The important thing is, you rattled his cage. There is no way a senator who has been in office as long as he has should have had to spend $10 million of his war chest.

Now he knows how unhappy his constituants are and he is weakened in the eyese of his fellow senators. That's a BIG accomplishment.

The other major accomplishment is you have encouraged other republicans who have given up in PA and haven't voted in years. Maybe next time they will come out and vote.

No disrespect to Ann, but she is just another dumb broad. I would be willing to inseminate her with my "superior Polish genes" if she could shut the hell up for 5 minutes...OK...2 minutes. I would also be willing to explain to her that the abrasions on her right eye are caused by the fact that she just doesn't listen.

Look, those people slagging off Toomey supporters need to calm the hell down. You won. Fine. But Pat Toomey ran a good and honorable race.

And the Toomey supporters need to, once a day or two has passed, see the big picture. Forget PA. Let Specter lose or win and focus on the other Senate races.

Win Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Louisiana, Florida, South Dakota, Washington, and California, hold Illinois, Oklahoma, Colorado, Alaska and as many other seats as we can. Look, with a pick up of four or five seats the GOP can afford to have a "night of the long knives" and purge some of these RINO's.

After the election, friends. After the election. Let's get Bush four more years and then start purifying the GOP.

Wow. Shall we try to remove the "juden" influence? How shall we "Purify" the republican vote? I sm truely terrified by your response.

"There are those who live bold, and those who Diebold?"

Yeah, that's the best line I've heard since the flap between Janet Reno and the FBI Director caused one wag to comment that "America should not exist half-slave and half-Freeh."

Should be...The conservative cause is on the move. RINO'S are a dying breed.

And may I point out YOU called Ann Coulter "...just another dumb broad."

Says a lot to me.

Basically RINO'S - and you I guess - want to ignore the conservative branch of the pubbie party. But as I pointed out RINO'S are fading...they're day is just about done. There are lots of pubbies, Reagan ratz and indies who are fed up with out of control government. W has been spending like a drunken rat...Arlen votes with the ratz...and conservatives are gonna drink Kool-Aid and vote for them just because they call themselves pubbies.

Gosh you really must think we're nutz.

No, conservatives will vote for W because they recognize the fact that there are more issues than just the budget. W has proven conservative on MANY points... why would you withhold your vote on account of the budget?

Well I'll vote for W because he's a leader and an adult, as opposed to the previous administration. Howeer when it comes to his domestic policies...I'm more than a little upset and wouldn't classify him as conservative.
