If this had happened in America, they wouldn't call him a Mexican.

A latino, chicano, hispanic or some other cutsie pc handle maybe, but not Mexican.

Even though it happened in Mexico, you'd never see this headline in an American paper.

This article was printed in Australia. In the US, the "drunk Mexican" would undoubtedly morph into an "intoxicated man."

This happened to a guy in my high school class about 25 years ago. Got drunk at a bar and car wouldn't start so he walked the RR tracks home. For some reason, he laid down on the tracks for a nap.
They buried three pieces of him a couple days later.

If this had happened in America

There was a case almost exactly like this in Indiana maybe eight or ten years back. Man staggered out of the local Adult Beverage Emporium, looked for a convenient place to take a nap, and nestled down between the rails. Along came a train and, naturally, there was no way to stop in time. The engineer, expecting mincemeat, came running back as soon as he could. The fellow was still sound asleep.

Made us Hoosiers proud.

I made a comment during a conversation once where a person I know from Mexico was highly offended, in fact almost violent, when I corrected someone who had referred to him as Spanish because he was speaking spanish. Seems that no matter how proud he claimed to be to have come from Mexico, he thought I was insulting him to point it out. It was semi bewildering.
