Comet Bradfield is plunging toward the sun; at closest approach on April 17th it will be well inside the orbit of Mercury. Does this mean that those disgusting reruns of "Third Rock From The Sun" will no longer be shown because it is no longer a valid title?
Or (gasp) will it mean another sitcom titled "Fourth Rock From The Sun".
Alas, this thread is leading me to frustration!

Ever read a book by Jerry Pournelle and Larry Niven called "Luicifer's Hammer?" This is how the book started out. It finished like Robinson Crusoe

We are all doomed so I want to confess something to
everybody. I cheated on my taxes. I also want to
announce that I am taking bets. I am taking the comet
but I want 10-1 odds. Any takers??

Comparing sizes and distances using other planets:
In this image from soho in 2000, it shows 4 planets(Mercury,Venus,Jupiter, and Saturn)
Mercury and Venus are orbiting in front of the Sun closer to the Earth , as I remember Mercury is @ 33 million from Sol, Venus is @ 59-60 ? Million, Earth is 92 million.
We know this Comet is well within 0.17AU (15 Million), so using this data & above images. I think we might get a better idea in real size of comet ?
http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/hotshots/2000_05_03/lasco_c3v3.jpg I hope this helps ?

Comet C/2002 V1 (NEAT) at Perihelion distance of 0.0999 AU.
The Comets highly electric Plasma sheath interfaces with the Sun several times over a few days...Quantum Electron Jump.
The relationship is like a welder arc...Anode/Cathode.
Captured by SOHO,,this is a fantastic proof of Electrical interface in Space...and noted..at 0.0999 AU..a staggering distance.

Note to self. Get home and switch off experimental comet-magnet. It seems to work.

NEW UPDATE regarding the comets.
May 3rd, 2004
"Astronomy Picture of the Day"
Title: "Comet Bradfield and LINEAR Rising"
Quote: (Middle-section of article)
"...Having just rounded the Sun itself, Comet C/2002 T7 (LINEAR) is now moving toward EARTH. Although instrinsically fading, T7 will appear to brighten until about MID-May and so continue to be visible to the unaided eye before sunrise to southern hemisphere observers into June. Comet Q4 the third coincidental naked eye comet, will become visible in MID-May to northern hemisphere observers."
