After just two weeks on the air, Air America Radio, the fledgling liberal talk-radio network featuring Al Franken and Janeane Garofalo, appears to have encountered serious cash-flow problems.
The CHICAGO TRIBUNE is developing a story, insiders tell DRUDGE, on how the network was pulled off the air this morning in Chicago and Los Angeles, the network's second- and third-largest markets, because, the owner of both stations said, the network bounced a check and owes him more than $1 million! A charge the network strongly denies...
A Chicago source familiar with the situation said a Multicultural representative showed up at WNTD's offices Wednesday morning, kicked out Air America's lone staffer overseeing the network's feed to the station from New York, switched over to a Spanish-language feed, and changed the locks on the doors...
Air America filed a complaint Wednesday in New York state Supreme Court charging Multicultural with breaching their contract and seeking an injunction to force Multicultural to restore the Air America broadcast on both stations, the TRIBUNE has learned... Developing...

Can anybody in the LA or Chicago areas, who can actually hear Air America, please verify that they've really been pulled? I don't want to start gloating to my lib friends until I can verify this.

A number of FReepers commented on the Chicago situation before they knew about it officially. I wouldn't gloat. It could be back tomorrow.

Reading the weblogs on the Err America site supports that Chicago & L.A. have been pulled.

I know that AAR is seeking an injunction against the holding company's taking AAR off the air I'm not a legal expert but if the initial report of "unpaid bills" is true, what is so illegal about pulling the plug?
I don't see how anyone can be expected to uphold a contract if the basic monies are not being exchanged...

O'Reilly should give Err America the attention it deserves-NONE
Chance of the above happening-NONE

I think this is probably a typical hardball business scenario that is indicative of AAR's unexpected success and somebody who was betting against that success trying to renegotiate. A perfect example of a typical left-winger's business sense.

Yep. But he doesn't own all the stations that carry it.
They pay him, when they do - because they know people will listen, and therefore advertisers will pay for spots.
Air America is buying time, because nobody's listening, and the advertisers know that.

Ah yes--liberals are so used to paying for things with other people's money (usually the taxpayerss) that it is a cruel reality check when they are expected to cover checks.
Hey AL--if you havn't cashed that intial pay check yet, hope you are eating at Teresa's tonight.

I'm guessing their *real* talent is in the legal counsel department. As with any liberal enterprise quality is secondary to legal muscle.

More evidence that when the left launches an enterprise, unless it receives government funding, it is doomed to failure. D-mnit, that's just not true. They can also flourish with, er, free money from liberal Foundations (such as Ford).
