Sensenbrenner Calls on Gorelick to Resign From Sept. 11 Commission

WASHINGTON (AP) - House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Sensenbrenner called on Jamie Gorelick to resign from the Sept. 11 commission Wednesday, citing a memo she wrote as a deputy attorney general on separating counterintelligence from criminal investigations. "Scrutiny of this policy lies at the heart of the commission's work," said Sensenbrenner, R-Wis. "Ms. Gorelick has an inherent conflict of interest as the author of this memo and as a government official at the center of the events in questions."

On Tuesday, Attorney General John Ashcroft released the declassified 1995 memo from Gorelick containing instructions that "more clearly separate" counterintelligence from criminal investigations. He said the "wall" between counterintelligence and criminal investigations was a key impediment to terrorism probes before the Sept. 11 attacks.

The Landmark Legal Foundation, a conservative law firm, also has called on Gorelick to step down, citing the memo.

A phone message left with the Sept. 11 commission was not immediately returned Wednesday.

Brilliant deduction! Unfortunately, all the attention is on why Bush didn't declare war on the Taliban in January of 2001, while the real crimes perpetrated from the Oval Office by his predecessor will never be investigated. Sadly, Republicans shot their wad on perjury and obstruction of justice. Treason and sedition would have been a better basis for impeachment.

The guy on the Left (Slade Gorton) is our former Washington state senator who was defeated by Maria Cantwell. He was always a RINO at heart, and is now busy still trying to screw Washington State voters by pushing for a state income tax and promoting the boondoggle worthless public transit scheme. He was pretty worthless as a senator. Occasionally he accidentally voted right, but very seldom.

Anyone remember when the commission was first discussed, President Bush wanted Henry Kissinger to run it. The dems screamed so much about conflict of interest, Kissinger stepped down.

Yes, I do remember that, now that you mention it. Who appointed these clowns, anyway?

Maybe i'm naive, but i just don't think that most of the american populace is in to emotion-based psycho-analytical politics anymore. there are lots of bad people out there that are thinking up ways to kill as many americans as possible, which might include me. wrangling over definitions of "sex" and "is" pale in comparison to the cold hard potential reality of my federal government being decapitated or me being vaporized as i play with my daughter in my backyard.

I don't want to be bribed by politicians (nod to Tocqueville) anymore - I'm pretty darn sure that the baby boomers are going to eat up all of the taxes I pay, especially my social security, and then ask for more and leave nothing for me. i'm getting very very very fed up with "affordable health care", "affordable prescription drugs", "living wages", "tax breaks for the rich" and various other Lefty gems of class warfare. i'm not going to reap the rewards of those bribes anyway. nor should i. or perhaps more importantly, nor should the Left try to bribe me.

oh i could go on and on and on but i don't have enough time - my daughter needs me.

Sensenbrenner on Hume explaining how the memo went above and beyond the requirements of the law and the restrictions placed, due to this memo on investigations like the Moussaoui case.

She ought to be called on as a witness, says JS. Arlen Specter said the same on Rush's show today. It has been obvious to we observers, too.

He is saying she should be called as a witness. That her memo raised the wall higher, without statuatory authority.

Brit just quoted the outrageous comments made by Kean today and is getting reaction from Sensenbrenner.

JS does not comment on the "stay out of our business", but quotes from the commissions own recusal guidelines and concludes she ought to resign.

Also saying that until memo was declassified, no one knew it existed. Says she shouldn't be investigating her own memo. Calls for her to resign.
